It might be at 35mm, but I doubt it'll work with any other focal length in the zoom.

I noticed that by putting the ring to "NEAR" it has much cleaner image at least when the object is between 0.7 to 2 meters at low light ( f 1.8 ~ f 3 ) ... but most people say the opposite.. what is your opinion ?

Are you saying that the when you set the ring to "near" when you're focusing near, you get a better image? That sounds crazy! hahaha. Yeah, I agree with you. I never seen anyone say the opposite though.

That's the adapter. Cheaper 1.33x adapters have a tendency for it.

YES! So one thing I want to do is put this on a Helios 44-2 with an anamorphic aperture ring (@ f4ish) and see if I can't get an oval bokeh with it. These look great! Definitely on my list in the near future! Thanks Tito!

Hi Tito, amazing channel and blog and everything, thanks so much for researching and sharing such amazing amount of info and doing it for free!! I´m currently researching my first Anamorphic purchase, and since I´ll be using it mainly for artsy stuff I don´t care about tack sharpness and perfect optical performance. I´m very interested in the compact version of this adapter since I´ll be using it in run and gun scenarios, and paired with an A7SII or a BMPCC4K I have a set of russian lenses but I´m also thinking of getting a panny 25 1.7 for portability. Would you recommend this compact adapter paired with a Helios 44-2 and the MIR 37? As said, I´m not after leica/zeiss sharpness but more after swirly bokeh, nice organic flaring and absolute imperfection. Is this compact version a better performer than the previous ones or is there a real compromise appart from the taking lense´s diameter? Thank you very much for the advice my friend.

I just bought one of these used for a cheaper price. If you were to place a short extension tube type adapter between the front lens element and the anamorphot, would the distortion go away with an over 40mm front element lens?

The non compact version comes with rangefinder, slap it on and turn your lens to infinity and you're set.

Hi Tito. A quick question for anyone who knows the answer. Can you step up and down diopters? Physically you can ? But will it effect the use or end result? As with all my other filters, I want to get larger size so thet can fit more lenses, but since the glas in diopters have a shape and not just a flat surface, I am wondering if they should be kept at native size... 🙂 I hope the question is clear 🙂

You'll be fine! Actually using larger diopters than you need is a good idea as you end up using less of the lower quality areas around the edges of the glass. :)

Why there are no wide angle anamorphic lenses? I used to have adapter for my iPhone 7 which had (FF eqviv.) 28mm lens. This was great combo for 21mm horizontal FoV. 40mm is good, but I wish there was an adapter for WA too.

Hello Tito, I just bought a Canon 5D mark III and i'm looking at buying an Anamorphic adapter looking at this model 1.33x-40 rather than the 50mm which costs twice as much , there is also an SLR 50mm 2.0 option nearly three times the cost of the compact, Will be buying the 40mm 2.8 pancake lens will I get good quality film look with this setup? any advice suggestions would be appreciated

Hi all. I wanted to see if I could get some help from Tito’s faithful followers...I’ve had my Compact 1.33 for about a week. It’s a great first step into anamorphic, especially since autofocus works with my A7rii and a6500. I’ve stuck this on a Sony 28mm and 55 1.8 and keeping the Aperture large seems to be the key. My question is on how to use an oval bokeh filter to get , well, oval bokeh. I’ve tried sticking a Vid Atlantic filter in front of the Anamorphot. No go. I tried it in between the takin lens, but it seems to reflect too much. Maybe I’ll try a DIY one that isn’t as reflective. Anyone else trying to get oval bokeh with this adapter and getting success? Tito, thoughts?

Guthrie Melchiade You’re welcome. It’s important to share :) The rear thread of the anamorphic adapter is 52mm and the front of the 55mm lens is 49mm. So I just got whatever step up ring was cheapest on Amazon. Hope this helps.

Just think, if you have a DJI Osmo Action you can connect this anamorphic adapter using this case/cage: amz.run/3tS0 It has a 52mm filter thread. Same size as the SLR Magic 1.33x

@@alexanderjamesINC Sorry, I forgot I made this post. It didn't work. The lens that's on the Osmo action, when shot through the anamorphic lens produced an image with the worst vignetting I ever saw. It was literally like I shot footage through a peep hole. Oh I was so disappointed. I could probably make it work, but I'm not going to invest any more time with it.

Using GH5S which 4:3 Anamorphic Mode with Anamorphot-50 2.0x Anamorphic Adapter with Rear Mounting Threads: 62 mm 1) If I use a SLR Magic 50mm T0.95 Lens with MFT Mount and 62mm Filter Thread, I won´t need any adapter for the connection and it should work perfectly, shouldn't it? 2) On the other hand, if I use a SLR Magic 25mm T0.95 (MFT Mount) Filter Thread 52mm with 52-62mm Step-Up Adapter is it going to work correctly? Will it have one single focus? 3) Using SLR Magic 10mm T2.1(MFT Mount)Filter Thread 77 mm with an step-down 77-62mm adapter, am I going to have vignette? If I have vignette, my question is, what is SLR Magic thinking by creating a lens and an adapter that doesn´t work efficiently? 4) Regarding the 3 cases I detailed previously, am I going to need the Rangefinder Cine for everything to work correctly? 5) Does the Anamorphot-50 multiply by 2.0x the Focal Length? I have this and like it a lot but on desqueezing the footage by a 1.333x factor makes it overly stretched horizontally I've found (filming a naturally circular object like a ball for reference).. I've found for objects to look normal a less than 1 333x stretch is required, more closer to 1.21x this resulting not a proper 2.35:1 final aspect ratio... That said it works then on my 15mm f1.7 Panasonic lens (30mm full frame equivalent) on my mft panasonic g85 in 4k mode (4k mode has a slight crop and thus removes any vignetting) and autofocus still works as it's not usually possible to use these adapters at such wide focal lengths..ps- does the number '40' in it's name mean you can only use taking lenses with front elements up to 40mm or otherwise what is the limitation of the taking lens? thanks - yes, the round objects are based on the ball I used as a circular object to test was close to camera/in the foreground so I guess further away objects are closer to 1.333x than the closer subjects though generally speaking subjects are more often closer to subjects than farther away.. (like all wide angle lenses which in a sense an anamorphic lens is, there is more distortion the closer the subject is to the lens..

Tito what is the best adaptor for a Canon EF Lens onto a Sony A7S2 - I have a nifty 50 an AS2 and an Anamorphot 1.33X40 Compact (which I currently use on a GH5). Didn't think to top full frame as well.

guys !!! the widest lens for SONY full frame system by far is SONY's pancake ZEISS 35mm F2.8, i went to SONY store yesterday, the reason this compact 40 can take that wide is that SONY ZEISS 35mm has a very tiny front glass, Canon's pancake 40mm F2.8 is probably the widest lens for CANON full frame system, if u use CANON's pancake 40mm with MC-11 on SONY, u will lose the continuous focus for video, just saved 140 bucks but not worthy for an unstable system!!! if u still wanna go wider, plz go for slr magic 1.33x 50 or 65, just remember "the smaller front glass, the wider focal length" !!!
