It's possible that Conner and Dr. M just simply never had that close of a bond. Starting it when they were already adults and not taking the time to get to know each other better. We definitely know Conner at least had a decent relationship with McSweeney, considering McSweeney put himself in jail just to keep secret information from other criminals.

​@@VtnVivi Not sure, probably a lack of aspirations for anything else and so put himself in jail to keep a low profile while working towards cleaning up his criminal record so he could move on with his own life. Plus by being in solitary confinement he would have an easier time looking over his shoulder. Being in the Cooper gang is liable to make you some enemies.

@@VtnVivi Well if he was close enough to conner, he probably learned some cooper family history and if was observant enough noticed clockwerk in all the background shenanigans possibly even glimpsing him once following conner.... or perhaps looking at him Considering that murderous machina's nature it isn't a stretch to beilive that sweeney believed jail would be a safe place for him compared to the outside where HE could get him, it's never mentioned exactly what happened to the previous coopers allies in crime but it isn't a stretch that the owl targeted them to get at the coopers I mean he did target carmelita to get to sly afterall not to mention he has existed since prehistoric times though this brings the question of how he exactly got his hands of such advanced technology.... or another more terrifying hypothesis in that he originally had no tech and possibly was one of the very first magic users of the cooper verse, after all we never did get a look at caveman clockwerk, mayhaps it was stone rather than metal and he simply upgraded himself as time marched on and possibly explain why the parts persisted so long after his demise but eroded immediately with the hate chips destruction He wasn't simply an engineer but a lich, possibly the very first

Honestly I was always very confused by how the main villain of Sly 4's flashbacks always had Connor Cooper alone and showing off. Did anyone else ever notice how..off that was? You'd think they would take the time to animate his gang too but its like his father really was the spotlight. I get the feeling Connor was definitely a lot more self-serving and greedy as a thief than we believe, and he only really taught those morals to Sly after he retired and started to raise him. Like he wanted his son to be better than him in the future. Personal theory? Connor probably faked his death in a random heist and let his gang take the fall, while he went to raise a child. Dr. M probably got upset and Mcsweeny eventually got caught. Would parallel how Sly faked memory loss at the end of Sly 3. His friends forgave him and likely understood why he did it, but Connor was likely just being selfish through and through. Sorry for the long post, lol

no all except for clockwerk were in it for their own reasons, usually as a coping mechanism for their upbringing and an excuse to justify their criminal actions, clockwerk was the only one with the vendetta against the cooper family for reasons which may or may not be all sly’s fault if the egypt episode was anything to be hinting towards.

I definitely don't think he's lying to some extent, as remember, M felt entitled to the insides of the Cooper valt as he stated he helped supplied some of that fortune he would never see. Who knows what truly happened, but I'm positive that the Cooper gang prior to sly broke up cause that same brotherhood was easily broken and both McSweeney and Dr.M felt as they were tossed aside

I think when Sly was borned, Conner decided to reduce the amount of thieving. So Dr. M perhaps wanted to keep going and argued. Then perhaps he might have gone by his own and failed. And blames Conner for its failure.

Honestly, I've always had a feeling Dr. M had a hand in Clockwerk knowing about the Thievius Raccoonus. Which led to the night Clockwerk & the Fiendish Five stole it. Just think about it, Clockwerk mentioned how the Cooper's always found a way to beat him. So we could assume Conner dealt with Clockwerk at some point, likely when Dr. M was still a part of his gang, before his unfortunate fate. So Dr. M would know about Clockwerk, and if this was when he left Conner's gang out of jealousy. We could assume he knew enough about Conner & his lineage, in order to convince Clockwerk to do something for him. While probably around the same time, he started trying to get into the Cooper Vault, for at least a few decades. I kinda hope we get, at least some of these things explained in Sly 5 to some extent, especially if it involves Clockwerk. Provided it ever happens. :)

Possibly, but I don’t think so. Dr. M is smart enough to know how dangerous Clockwerk is. But the biggest evidence against this is that if he was indeed working for Clockwerk, he would have requested the Cooper’s Cane. Unless this was before he had acquired the island’s deed and he found out about the cane being needed to open the door. Besides, Clockwerk was so obsessed with the Coopers, he wouldn’t have needed Dr. M’s help to locate Conner and his family. He’s always keeping tabs and finds them eventually. And if Dr. M wanted to help, why wasn’t he a member of the fiendish five? He was certainly smart enough. No. I think Dr. M was great as his own villain and he probably didn’t have anything to do with Clockwerk or his attack on Sly’s family.

well, a spot to take note of is the headgear Dr. M is wearing. Is that JUST a head device, or is that something that he made after an injury from the incident between him and Conner during a heist or something of the like? Another thing is just as you quoted from Mc.Sweeny: "Things got tense when you were born" Perhaps Fatherhood made him take less risks towards himself and was willing to sacrifice his "Gang Members" if it meant he got home to Sly? and it's because of that possible misunderstanding or a botched heist that Dr. M felt betrayed because Conner changed the plan part way because he got scarred at some point or another? I'm literally spit balling by this juncture but you get what I driving at right?

I believe Conner wanted to setting down when he got marry and had a child. Dr. M got jealous and greedy. He felt Conner abandoning him and the gang for it. The treasures that the gang collected over the years, he felt he deserves his cut of the fortune. I think the reason why Dr. M wasn't a infamous criminal like Conner because I think Conner purposely took the credit to protect his friends so the police will go after him instead of the others.

I think it would be a good idea to have Connor make his appearance in Sly 5 and even the Sly Cooper TV Show. In Sly 5, it would be interesting to have Sly learn more about Connor to see if Connor is who Sly thinks he is despite the feud between Connor and Dr. M. Just like in The Batman, if you seen that movie, Bruce Wayne learned the truth about his father Thomas Wayne. And in Sly 5, Sly needs to learn the truth about Connor.

I think that Dr. M. Having an ego did contribute, but also that either Conner himself was letting his "friends" get hurt more after Sly was born, Conner was always kind of not as great of a friend, the Cooper legacy and rules of the vault were always this controlling if the treasure, Conner in particular was controlling of the treasure from his gang, or any number of combinations of these reasons. Though we can all agree Sly is the better in terms of companionship and valuing of his friends and team, permitting the good writing.

Yeah Sly put his neck on the line for the gang more than once. Two big instances was the end of sly 2 turning himself in to inspector Fox in exchange for letting the gang go free. Then Sly 3 him throwing his cane at the monster to save Bentley and almost losing his life for it. I'm guessing Connor didn't put the gang before himself like Sly did which marks the trait of not only a true friend but a true leader.

I don't think Sly's father was a bad person. Dr.M's conversations with Sly and Bentley point to him having an inferiority complex. From what I can tell, Dr.M wasn't as infamous as Conner, thus his hand in the Cooper Gang's successful heists was rarely acknowledged if ever. Whether Conner was purposefully hogging the spotlight or Dr.M's plans were that good is beyond me. However, I think Conner unintentionally became the more recognizable person in his gang. Just like how Sly is now. I mean when you think of the Cooper Gang, you obviously first think of the person it's named after. Hell, Dr.M called that out. Also, remember in Sly 2 that Rajan had no idea who Murray was? Things were probably like that in Conner's gang. McSweeny probably didn't mind it, but obviously, Dr.M was different. The thing that probably broke the camel's back was the Cooper fortune. I imagine that Dr.M wanted some if not most of the loot that he helped collect over the years. Conner either offered him a small amount of the loot or outright denied him. Considering McSweeny called Conner a good man, I assume it was the former. Dr.M then got pissed about either option and from then on started his narrative about the Cooper's being "dirty, attention-grabbing thieves".

A few things to note here, one is a question as to why is sly's father's picture is ruined INSIDE the valt as the villen had to use an alternate route to get to the inner sanctum? Second is how Connor learned about an ability to slide on laser beams? And finally my own thoughts about how Connor and his gang ended up, most likely the police or government officials caught Connor but like Carmelita was somewhat a friend as well, but because of the high level of heists they made someone had to go, so Connor let McSweeney take the brunt of the fall as, like Mury, he can handle himself as well as he's a good friend of the family Connor would've known sly some day would want to know about the family valt, Connor's 3rd member (sorry can't remember his name accurately enough) would've thought this was a big betrayal despite the fact the other two walk free, until some old enemies make their rounds in sly 1's back story, this adds up sense sly's back story never seamed to indicate that his father wasn't ever even worried about anyone coming after him and his family, once again until the claw gang showed up. side note as it's more of a personal disappointment is a question as to why sly doesn't use the laser grind after this ONE instance, I do know it would've made the game a WHOLE lot easier but it could've been a gadget after the game's ending as more of a nod that sly can still use this skill but only in certain situations.

This really could had gone down, in one of two ways. 1 Conner really was a good friend, but Dr M could've become too ambitious and wanted more, asked Conner to join him but he declined, making M feel betrayed,(which would lead to the, your father was never such a good friend line?) I also believe he could be the one that drop the dime on Conner's whereabouts to clockwork and I know how intelligent he is, but Conner could had been that one Cooper that gave clockwork the slip and even with all his resources, he still couldn't find Conner. Or 2 Conner might have been a bit selfish with his crew, done something to tick Dr M off, and then it lead to his own demise.

couple things come to mind. Spitting stuff off the top of my head (i haven't read any comments so if I say something someone already has, those people said it first) 1. What if when "things got a little tense" means that once Sly was born, the whole "I'm a dad and I need to be there for my son" feeling hit Conner pretty hard, and since the thieving life CAN be pretty dangerous (depending on which police or fellow thieves are chasing you), Conner may have wanted to greatly reduce his capers, or stop them all together. If that would be the case, maybe Dr. M wasn't ready to give it up, and wanted to do bigger and better heists, but Conner was really trying to be a dad at that point. Maybe Conner even knew about the Fiendish Five back then, and knew that time was short, and so did the best he could to BE a dad to Sly before time ran out. With Conner not there, and Dr. M no ready to give up, perhaps McSweeny and M went to pull off a caper of their own, with M leaving not-so-subtle hints and wiggle room for Conner to come in a help/save them incase things went sideways. The caper happened, but Conner never showed, and possibly even provided evidence against M and McSweeny as a now very direct message to say "knock it off, I'm done, I need to be a dad" and M took it not only the wrong way, but also hard. McSweeny might have just been caught in the middle, where he could see Conner's want to be a dad, but also didn't want to give up the thieving life. As far as I remember, he doesn't really seem to harbor a grudge against Conner, or he hides it REALLY well when talking to Sly and accepts that Sly is not his father, where as Dr. M is basically pulling a "sins of the father" trope. Crediting Conner with ALL the planning and the official heists? The papers shown in (i think) Sly 1 usually mentioned the entire gang and one group pulling off the heist, but in Conner's time, might have singularly credited him with the heists and not the entire gang. Conner may have been reviling in the attention, but Dr. M meanwhile was stewing that he wasn't getting ANY recognition accept a thanks from Conner when things went right. -T.K.

Little late to the party. What if Conner cared more about preserving and keeping the Cooper Legacy as the 'Master Thieves'? Dr. M felt he was cheated out of some of the fortune. Maybe Conner would grab most of it and haul it to the Cooper Vault? But Conner would need to get to the island which seems remote and possibly had Dr. M make the transportation there but only McSweeney and Conner would go but Dr. M tailed them or hid something he could listen in on their conversation?

Gonna be honest helping in crime is way different than risking your life for little in return with all benefits going towards sly. Aside from that he’s grown paranoid and deranged where he also has shown that he isn’t an honest person as he tried to frame murder as self defence, too bad if it was taken to court, Dr.M has escalated the conflict and on attempt to leave the property. I think it’s enough to show that M doesn’t just want fortune he wants destroy sly and want his blood spilled. If there was any truth burried in his statements, it’s likely that he didn’t see eye to eye like Penelope in 4 where she wanted money her way and as much as possible through said method.

There are many possibilities that could've went on between Dr. M & Connor such as probably after Sly was born he neglected Dr. M because he had to provide for his family which Dr. M wouldn't understand & maybe Connor tried persuading him of telling his side is when things got heated between them as well, but like i said many possibilities right man.

Okay, I think we all know about having some things after the father and some things after the mother, right? So, if we use the theory VIVI once made, that Sly's mother is an ancestor of Carmelita (or Carmelita herself), then that would mean that she (probably) was full of justice. So, that could mean that Sly took his look from the father, but the personality😏 from his mother. Which means, that he was more just, than his father. There's two sides to every story. We'll never hear connor's side of the story because he's dead but if I had to guess most likely they're is some truth in what Dr. M was saying. If he just a mad man that just hated the coopers and slys dad for no reason theres no way he would of acknowledged the fact that there was a close bond between Bentley and sly. Plus if you guys remember and I'm surprised no1 brought this up. Bentley started to question his friendship with Sly too. Like he was being used I ain't sure it was because Bentley overheard Dr. M and Sly conversation on the blimp. But Bentley started to question it too until murray quickly snapped him out of it. Now did Dr M and mcswanney have a similar encounter and mcswanney couldn't say the same thing about Connor? we don't know. I mean it's kind of crazy for Bentley to say that after a bit ago sly almost got eaten for saving Bentley from Dr. M's monster. I mean think about Sly threw his cane his most PRIZED possession the key to the cooper vault at the monster to save Bentley. I mean if that doesn't show true friendship idk what does. Sly could of EASILY walked away and bently even told him forget about me and save yourself. But Sly didn't do that he threw his cane he was willing to sacrifice everything he worked for to save Bentley. But that being said. With everything that happened I think yes There was some betrayal by connor to Dr. M. Or Dr. M saw the bond between Bentley and sly was so strong he had to acknowledge that their friendship was much stronger.

My personal thought is that Connor wasn't exactly a saint, I reckon he was more reckless than Sly and probably took more than his fair share of the credit for successful heists, but I don't think he was as bad as Dr. M made him out to be. I reckon Dr M has always had a dark and selfish side, so probably resented Connor being the leader of the gang. When Connor became a father to Sly, he likely toned down the heists a bit so as not to endanger himself or his son, but this angered Dr. M as he felt he was holding the gang back from reaching full potential. Maybe Dr M took matters into his own hands and planned a super heist, but in the process got caught or badly hurt and Connor refused to take the fall for him, letting him reap what he sowed. This is all just speculation of course. Though McSweeney doesn't seem to harbour any resentment towards Connor, making me feel more it was Dr. M's problem.

Honestly I was always very confused by how the main villain of Sly 4's flashbacks always had Connor Cooper alone and showing off. Did anyone else ever notice how..off that was? You'd think they would take the time to animate his gang too but its like his father really was the spotlight. I get the feeling Connor was definitely a lot more self-serving and greedy as a thief than we believe, and he only really taught those morals to Sly after he retired and started to raise him. Like he wanted his son to be better than him in the future. Personal theory? Connor probably faked his death in a random heist and let his gang take the fall, while he went to raise a child. Dr. M probably got upset and Mcsweeny eventually got caught. Would parallel how Sly faked memory loss at the end of Sly 3. His friends forgave him and likely understood why he did it, but Connor was likely just being selfish through and through. Sorry for the long post, lol
