I remember this character! And I was exactly the same as him when I was much younger.. If they decide to bring Winthrop into the games, I could imagine him confessing his feelings; but realizing Carmelita's feelings, he decides to help her and the Cooper gang locate Sly. In the end, all he wants Carmelita to be happy, even if Winthrop doesn't get the girl

I appreciate the callout to our obscure detective! The pinnacle of socially awkward and unrequited love. I haven't read To Catch a Thief yet, but I remember him from the second comic. I would like to see Winthorp make an appearance in a possible Sly 5 as a minor character that helps Carmelita with her investigation on Sly's whereabouts. He's the type of love-struck that would do anything for their crush, even helping them find the true love interest! Given that Sly was briefly employed with Interpol, Winthorp would have had to have some interactions with Sly since he works with Carmelita, thus not making the scenario farfetched. Winthorp finding out that Sly faked his amnesia and is still a thief would be an interesting conflict. Help Carmelita find the person she cares about so much, or sabotage the investigation so he can have Carmelita to himself?

It would be a good idea to have Winthorp appear in Sly 5 as a hidden main antagonist. Since he and Carmelita grew closer together before Thieves in Time, it would be safe to say that Winthorp doesn’t know that Carmelita has true feelings for Sly and Winthorp lost his chances to win Carmelita’s affections. Maybe in Sly 5, Carmelita would trust Winthorp to keep her secret safe that she’s finding Sly while Winthrop doesn’t know that Carmelita has personal feelings for Sly throughout the game and at some point Winthorp would betray Carmelita by framing her before revealing his motivation and exposing her to interpol that she’s “In love with a Thief” which I’m referring to Sly. It’s a way of showing Winthorp’s character development from being a good guy and turning into a bad guy.

I could see winthorp as a villian.with jealousy. Angry eyes instead of the clueless ones and maybe sly has to help carmelita take him down. The goons would actually be the police. Winthorp has technology aswell because penelope is involved. The hate for sly grows. The jealousy route sounds like the easiest approach right? A guy falls in love, he gets ignored...then realizes the person he crushed on is in love with a ''criminal''? As long as they could make this scenario appealing, why not.

If he came back as antagonist, it would be Nice to have an antagonist for Carmelita. He could always say that her dedication to Sly will destroy her career, with us finding out about Carmelita past.

I do remember Pierre Winthorp, and I do wish there was more to him and more for him in the Cooper series. I can already think of Pierre after finding out about Sly and Carmelita's relationship. He runs from the scene, gets home, and thinks to himself. Winthorp: Oh my God... Carmelita.... My partner and the one that I lo- i mean, respect dearly. Is in love with Sly Cooper.... What can I do? She's basically dating the most wanted criminal in Interpol! ...But I care about her. And if I tell the chief about it, what will they do to her? What will they do to me since now I know the truth? Not only will I ruin Carmelita's life but I'll also get myself fired. Or worse. If I don't hide this secret, I'll still get her in danger.... I can't believe I'm doing this.... But if Carmelita really is happy with Sly Cooper... Then I'll keep my mouth shut.... I'll always be supportive... I swear to you Carmelita... I'll never tell anyone about this... I promise.... And then there are times when anyone else from Interpol asks Winthorp about Sly and/or Carmelita, he tries to act normal or stupid about stuff. And that somehow works. It's almost like a running gag and I see Winthorp as a bit of comedic relief. And perhaps at some point someone would try to get secrets from Interpol and Pierre is unfortunately the person they kidnap. He would literally just say some embarrassing things about himself and never mention anything about Interpol. Not sure what else, but you get it.

I remember this guy!! I think you're the first person to actually talk about this him 😅 Edit: I don't think he knew about Sly & Carmelita, because if he did ( assuming the devs would run with that idea) I can imagine he'd probably try to get rid of Sly out of jealousy. I know the idea may sound a little far fetched but think about it, all the major villains in each game like you said has a grudge against Sly. Well this could be Winthrop's grudge, him thinking he could finally win Carmelita's heart with Sly out of the picture. If a game were to come back continuing after Thieves in Time, they could actually use that opportunity to reintroduce Winthrop as Carmelita's admirer but like keep the interaction the same, like as in Carmalita still never noticing or paying him much attention. Winthrop could then notice a picture of Sly & Carmalita together & he'll hide his anger from her, thus already building a potential next villain arc. And let's just say Sly does come back, he COULD very well threaten to expose Carmalita to interpol and now her job and passion as a cop could be on line ( apologies for repeating things you've already mentioned could be a possibility, these lead up conversations are always enjoyable for me personally). Anyways that's just my take from all this, I'm curious to see what others have to say.

I never had access to literally anything besides a psp growing up. No internet, no nothing. Just a psp and about 3 or 4 games. It is an absolute joy to find hidden gems from the past. You sure know like everything about the Sly Cooper series and it's characters. I didn't even think about Winthorp every time I play the games. You know, if some of the main Sly Cooper baddies hold a grudge on Sly, maybe Winthorp could be the next villain in the future stories. Like he sort of has a crush on Carmelita right? But what if he does found out Sly's relationship with her and that would probably make Winthorp mad that he wants to destroy Sly and get at Carmelita. I don't know, I'm just making a theory here. We don't even get to know much about Carmelita's chief boss either. He only appeared in the end cutscene of Sly 2. So what if he could have more appearance in the series as well? Some of the unmentioned characters should make an appearance in the new Sly games. If that ever happens. What do you think?

A villain's motivation is everything and if he was a villain and his motivation is not getting the girl that would in my opinion be a bad antagonist. So i think he would work better as an ally keep the secret admirer persona but actually accepts Sly and Carmelita together not go full villain mode

Ive played with this idea a bit in a story of mine, and kinda used his heartshattering dismissal as fuel for him to become an agent as good or better than Carmelita is. He then could use that to take down sly for good because... 1. He might see Sly as a romantic rival. 2. Carmelita is obsessed with sly, and winthorp may see that as unhealthy. 3. He might think that her obsession would lead her down a dark path that could potentially put her in jail.

Yoo I remember seeing To Catch a Theif at a public library side shop in 2010. My brother and I went crazy and begged our dad to get it until someone else buys it. Luckily enough, it was 50 cents. I want to see characters from the future of the series come to the past to help our main characters find Sly Cooper maybe the future son and daughter of Sly Cooper the Cooper twins! they want to help find their father cuz in the future he went missing years ago and I think we can all tell who the mother is it's Carmelita Fox! (I have trouble spelling her name or pronouncing it) put a shocking when she found out there could be scenes where she's not feeling well turns out she's pregnant so she won't be that much of a playable character just a side character who helps from behind the scenes the Son can be for open combat while the daughter is more stealthy maybe bad guy can be a flesh and blood version of clockwork we defeat him but we ultimately created him to become the monster we know today because you know time travels shenanigans it's like that I'm My own grandfather effect from that one episode of Futurama!

ive actually been drafting up a fancomic (as of yet unnanounced) in which winthorp plays a minor role, although not as minor as in the books. nothing huge though. i always figured winthorp to be that kind of quiet and respectful kind of dude, a little awkward but not at all malicious. i also think he'd just be like wildly good at his job lol

I am not actually a huge fan of the Sly Cooper series, but I think that the character mentioned in the video, could probably be (after finding out about Carmelitas true love) helping out Carmelita and Sly Coopers gang. If we wanted to make him a villian (out of jelaousy) then... It would make more sense if he was actually obsessed with Carmelita (not just a little crush).
