Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included kzbin.infoUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

Slick build!! Another pro tip - put a 4" stretcher across the back of the cabinet at the top, flush with the back edge. It will help it remain square and provides a great place to screw through for attaching to the wall behind. You can be sure to find a stud as you can go through it anywhere along its length. Much stronger than a pocket hole.

Great job on the dresser and drawes. On the edge banding, you don't need the foil between the iron and the banding. Set your iron to medium heat and just keep it moving back and forth as you iron down the length.
@WelcometotheWoodsBlog3 жыл бұрын
My old iron has rust on it so that would transfer onto the edge banding if I wasn't using the foil haha

Great job! As for needing to take down the rod and supports to get the shelf to fit, I've been there more than once. 😎 I remodeled the inside of 3 closets in our 1920 house, adding shelves and divided spaces for rods at two levels (no drawers) and quickly found that building the shelves outside of the closet and inserting them as a unit was a bad idea as there was no way to angle them into position through the doors! I ended up having to take them apart to get them into the closets and then perform some painful contortions to reassemble them in place!

Really fantastic job making that closet into something useful! I'm glad to see you found the wonders of edgebanding! So useful! If you don't mind me sharing, I have a tip on dealing with those mitered corners. You can add a little bit of glue to the gaps, then use the round part of a screw driver (or just a round rod) to kind of squish those corners down into each other. Just start flat on the board, sliding back and forth and lift the angle so it pushes down the edges, just like you mentioned doing with the sander. Using a piece of metal is especially useful with plywood, so you don't run into the issue of sanding through the veneer. You can also pack in some sawdust if any of the gaps don't quite close up. It mixes with the glue and turns into a homemade wood putty and makes a seamless joint. I have used an offcut to make the sawdust, or veneer, since it's the same wood. Oh and that reading knook, truly inspired! I used to love sitting in the closet to read! Love it!
@WelcometotheWoodsBlog3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice! I have done that before but I just forgot about that trick haha. Should've done it slower with the screwdriver instead of trying to be quick with my sander.

@farmcat31984 ай бұрын
Add about an 1/8th cup of water to that tub of drywall compound and mix it in with a drill. You know it's right when it feels like soft serve ice cream. It will go on so much more smoothly and will minimize the need for sanding.

Use a higher tooth count blade for your saw prevents splinters also all purpose mud has glue in it best for taping hard to sand use green lid for first coat then top with blue lid will save you a ton of time and aggravation and give u a better finish

Nice job. Seeing you struggle there with the shelf at the end reminded me of myself before I discovered a product by fast cap called 3rd hand. They come 2 in a set and they extend from 57 to 144 inches. They also make little hand which extend from 17.5 to 26 or so inches. They are super valuable when you need an extra hand. #notsponsored 😀

Christ, your drawer unit is ten times, twenty times better than Ikea quality. Love the problem solving with the rail Melissa. Kudos again for showing 'a mistake we'd all make'. Great video as usual. You slow down some as the pregnancy goes on now. No more climbing on precarious surfaces. Oh, a tip - spacing blocks tend to be easier in the long run than trying to get everything level.

Try gently rolling the mitered corners next time with a small pipe, or the cylinder chrome shaft of a typical bit-switching screw driver. Mushes the corner pretty well. Nice build!

I know it was probably hard for the saw to not kick back during those first plywood cuts even with support from the trash can. Idk if you’ve seen the tip of using a thick piece of foam board insulation as a backer and using the entirety of your work bench for cuts. Make it go a lot smoother. Just need storage for the foam board lol thanks for the content!
@WelcometotheWoodsBlog3 жыл бұрын
Yes! I just picked up a foam board a week ago so I can start doing that. Looking forward to smoother cutting in the future.
@timmoen45893 жыл бұрын
PRO TIP!! to keep plywood from splintering make two passes. First pass, set the blade to just kiss the wood, you don't want to cut more than the first ply. Second pass cut all the way through.
@WelcometotheWoodsBlog3 жыл бұрын
That IS a good tip!
@joshuaturner91163 жыл бұрын
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog That tip works well, you can also lay a strip of masking tape the whole width of the cut and that will prevent it as well.

I am not sure you do enough woodworking to make use of this, but Harbor Freight bar clamps are much lighter than the heavy clamp you are using. But you need to use the Paul Sellers improvement to them. Ask another woodworker you trust. Cheaper and lighter
