We must be aware of what is in our heart because God is and no matter how we dress it up on the surface to save face amongst others, sin is sin and like a weed it will grow rampant if given room to thrive in the dark , repentance comes from God's grace to us ,we could not do it without the Holy Spirit convicting us and bringing us to see ourselves in His light then to agreeing with God , being contrite of heart and sorrowful is not pleasant when going through repentance but it does lead to forgiveness and freedom. Even 70 times 7 times a day we must not hide from God but take our struggles to Him and by His grace we will be over comers because Jesus was and He will do what we are unable to when we surrender our will to Him.

Thank you father very good video I just want to add to this That some times if you pray to God for him to take this habits a way that if he is not answering is because you have to think what if he does take all of it a way what will you have to fight for? What will you have (Να Ταπεινώνεσαι )? Humiliate your self with ? Is very important because is the cross that we carry as Christians the point is who ever doesn’t give up on this fight will be saved according to his work on earth We fall we get back up again and again and again That’s why our lord Jesus said don’t forgive one time but 75 and more Glory to God in the highest ☦️🙏🏼 Orthodox Christian ☦️☦️☦️

How can one read the Bible prayerfully, discovering the meaning within what is written, such as what many Saints have written, as you have presented Fr. Spyridon? Or is it best to read a commentary along with reading? Thank you
@FatherSpyridonROCOR6 жыл бұрын
Hello Andrew, I find reading a small amount and giving myself time to reflect on it is useful, rather than tearing through too much at one time. But it is good to read the fathers so as to gain a true perspective - after all, the early Church not only decided which texts should enter the canon of Holy Scripture but they left us plenty of writings to guide us in our understanding of them. Without this rudder we are free to turn and take any direction in our interpretation which happens to feel right to us - trusting our feelings in this way can be dangerous. But being open to them and allowing the text to influence our mind and heart is invaluable. I find reading them as simply as possible is useful, allowing the stories, events and teachings to iive with me for a while. God bless you.

Oh yes, what is the meaning behind walking on water? Christ had them all do this but Peter looked down and fell. It seems it might be a message about our fallen nature, to doubt, to look down, to fall, etc..But why Peter? He is usually the apostle who most closely resembles ourselves.

Hi Father Spyridon, I have an apparent paradox that has been bothering me. Jesus Christ gave to the apostles the power to forgive sins and this power was passed down to today's priests obviously. But the bible says that if you do not forgive everyone around you, the Father will not forgive you. But if you go to a priest a confess and he forgives your sins, and you do not forgive everyone around you. After his prayer, your sins are forgiven. But your sins are not forgiven, because Christ said God the Father won't forgive you unless you forgive others. How do we settle this contradiction?
@invisiblefiddle16455 жыл бұрын
Simple: if you want to be forgiven then forgive others. Besides we have all sinned. Who am i to withhold forgiveness from my brother when i committed sin as well? Who is truly able to withhold forgiveness from a any man but God only. Since God is sinless i feel He only has the right to withhold forgiveness from anyone. Basically by the verses you used, we can see that the Lord is saying these things to prove a point. The point is that we don't have the right to withhold forgiveness unless we are willing ourselves to remain unforgiven, seeing we all sin and it would be prideful hypocrisy for me to withhold forgiveness from my brother. The one who realizes how much he has been forgiven cannot help but freely and lovingly forgive others. In fact, he would weep for them. Like Christ weeps for us and pities us remembering that we are but dust. However, maybe when he says "if you forgive the sins of any they are forgiven, if you do not forgive the sins of any they are not forgiven." This 'might' have something to do with the apostolic authority that paul used when "delivering such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh" (when gathered together with my spirit and with the power of the Lord Jesus Christ) or like alaexander amd hymaneus he delivered them to satan that they may learn not to blaspheme. It seems that when people in the body of Christ did not repent of practiced sin that the apostles would "deliever them over to Satan together with the church present AND with the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. This could be what Christ Jesus delivered to the apostles when he breathed on them. Authority to do this very thing if need be. But i have never heard anyone preach it since i have grown up in pentecostal circles all my life. Maybe there is some orthodox material on this subject that pre dates my speculation hopefully? (sure there is).

Father Spyridon, why do you speak of "small" and "large" sins? Is this not a view of sin held by the Roman Catholics? Does Orthodoxy maintain such a view as well? God bless.
@FatherSpyridonROCOR5 жыл бұрын
Hello Edwin, you raise a good point. There are some sins which may remain outside of us, and though we must repent of them, the damage they do to our soul may be limited. However, St. Paul warns that some sins such as fornication, which involve the body, may cause a deeper wound to us. Also, those sins we each allow to become a habit for us, whether of action or thought, may be difficult to repent of because they become so ingrained in us. Speaking of sin in this way is to move away from the Roman idea of sin as a legalistic concept, but rather recognise the different degree of injury they bring us.

Why do you say such foul words against him? We are all sick, you can't judge someone for a specific sin while you too are a sinner. Check out his recent videos, maybe he did indeed lose weight but still you or any other person have no right to judge him or any other person because of their sin, for we are all sinners
