This show was clearly a good idea. You can never tell if some games are complicated or not before you play them. Yes it is 10+, but some games can be really complex with their rules and others, such as this, are nice and easily laid out. I feel confident in buying this for my nephews when they're a little older and myself for my gaming group as I can tell I can just dive right in without needing to look at the rules over and over before a next move.

I actually would prefer to see a video of a fresh game opened and set up, rules read etc etc to give a good idea of complexity - with no one knowing the rules - the closest I have seen to that is some guys playing Arkham Horror where its almost 1 hour of set up

I think this is better as the rules aren't shoved in your face and over the course of the game you are reminded and told of rules so it sticks in your head a lot more. Just my opinion though.

I have a question since I have only purchased this game yesterday. When do you exactly choose to put your race into decline? Can you do so at any point during your turn even if you still have troops in your hand? And what about the dice roll? I am a bit confused about when you use it exactly. Do you use it only if you have no troops left to conquer a region? If a troop gets conquered, do the pieces that go back into the game box be redeployed through the dice roll on a later turn? And when are you allowed to redeploy during your turn? Thanks, and I would appreciate the help.

Your race can go into decline at the beginning of your turn, unless otherwise stated, like if they're stout. The dice can be rolled for reinforcements during your LAST conquest of the turn, again unless stated otherwise. I know there's one that lets you roll during every conquest but I can't remember which one. When troops get conquered, one out of however many troops there goes back into the game box or wherever, because they die. Any other troops that were there past one are redeployed after the current player is done with conquests. You are able to redeploy on your turn after you're done with conquests.

Yes; there is a mistake in this game because Sean is attacking with ghouls as soon as they are in decline. He has to wait a turn. (Also, he needs to conquer the adjacent mountain first to get the giants' bonus.)

In the very first round, Sean isn't using the correct amount of tokens to conquer with the Giants. He's playing with them as if they conquer regions adjacent to Mountain regions cost 1 less, but you have to occupy said Mountains first.

Hey cell, you probably could code a pretty good site with no CS degree. Client side html and javascript are pretty simple and there are a lot of tools that can help you. As long as you have the site hosted. Where I feel you need to have some sort of formal education is if you are planning on running the client side (the site) and the server side. You really need to know sound programming principles to manage the server side. If you are doing ecommerce you need to know how to properly protect your server and the databases they are going to be using. You can probably brute force your way through the learning process but most start up sites that show any promise are usually purchased by larger companies. So, if you have terrible code they may not buy and if you get investors they may force you out for a credentialed CEO. It happens a lot. I see a lot of people who think because they can code they can just start a company, but that is really not true. Your value lies in your ability to solve problems within the scope of your project. You have to be able to create and analyse algorithms. Or take existing algorithms and make them more efficient. It's not just calling methods, setting variable, and knowing how to loop. Hope this helps.

I'm gonna point out all the mistakes they did just for fun. * Hill giants cannot take areas around mountains for one less unless they control the mountains ;D * ghouls can not attack the same turn they go into decline either. * the tritons didn't start at the edge of the board but at an invalid location. * you don't need to CHOOSE which location to attack, before rolling the dice when using the berserker ability.

Lexahkiin You are lucky then, I just made a much bigger mistake as I misspelled "tasty" (gott in Swedish) as "Walked" (Gått in Swedish).The two words are pronounced the same way (homophones?) so the mistake is simple to understand. Unless you take into account the fact that I'm studying to become a teacher in Swedish and English for Upper Secondary School...So yeah...that was...bad...xD A pretty long tangent I suppose but at least you are not alone in making silly/dumb mistakes. You got the giants rule wrong, they have to control the mountain before getting the -1 combat bonus for all the adjacent areas.

got the berserk wrong too, you place tokens for the attack then roll for reinforcements you don't just roll and place the minimum tokens needed its not rolling to see how few you must send its rolling to see how many come to help if no one comes to help you could lose or if the roll is not high enough and you didn't place enough tokens they basically made it an invincible ability by allowing a roll before placing tokens

Wrong. From the developers: You may roll the die once per attack. First, you roll the die. Then you choose an adjacent territory. Then, you deploy your tokens. So it is actually a discount you get before you need to send your troops. The way you explained it would be useless because I get to place my reinforcements at the end of the turn anyway whereever I want. Why would I want to put reinforcement troops on a tile AFTER I send units there. It does make zero sense.

I believe they also got tritons wrong - they have to come in from a border, which does not include water-bordering territories (unless they are seafaring, in which case they can grab the water first).

No, it was correct. > First Conquest A player's race deploying on the map for the first time must enter it by conquering one of its border Regions (i.e. a Region adjacent to the edge of the board or one whose shore is on a Sea adjacent to the edge of the board, even if the Sea is occupied by a Seafaring Race).

Huh. I guess I've been playing it wrong, then, based on an incorrect assumption of the definition of "border." I thought it was just them assuming since it was tritons. Oh well, now I know for next time.

This really is a great board game. We played it last night, and our group had to stop an alien from taking over every explorer. One character died, the rest managed to blow up the spaceship. Exciting stuff.
