I have been wondering: everyone talks about how 'cinematic' or 'film like' cameras can be. Why don't we just bring back film? Make the home processing process really streamlined and have a race to build the smallest, fastest and cheapest film processing home units?

@@zimmhone I do shoot film too. Love it. I guess digital always had to live up to film. Was a kind of benchmark digital was aiming for but with more resolution. There is a beauty to the organic grain (pixel) structure of film. If some digital cameras can capture that feel then it would be super for film lovers who can’t afford to shoot film 🙂

@@zimmhone Because it's like 100x cheaper to simulate film (and it's more flexible and less labor) just no reason to go film unless you have a really specific project.

I like the GR series, good video. Honestly, if you want a more filmic look in a digital camera, you can't beat the early and mid 00s digicams with CCD sensors IMO. They have zoom lenses so you arent stuck at a wide focal length, many have IS, some also have an ND filter built in (like my Nikon CoolPix P7100) and they are much, much cheaper. Any of the older Fuji Finepix with the SuperCCD sensors are the closest to film in a digital camera Ive ever seen. Especially if you can get one of the EXR models like my F70EXR that was one of the first to get the film simulations like Provia, Velvia and Astia. I picked up mine for $45.

Great video! I’m a Fuji 100F user, but almost picked up the Ricoh when I was in the market. Both are incredible cameras. I was really intrigued by the idea of printing my shots. I currently don’t have a printer that could produce the quality I would want unfortunately. I would love to see a video in the future about how to print your own pictures; and if you don’t have a printer, where you recommend getting prints. I love the size and border of your prints.

I'm in agreement. I have the Fuji XT2 which is small but even so, if I get a wider lens to shoot my preferred style at 28mm (18mm the Fuji) it will make the camera bulkier. So yes Ricoh ticks the boxes for portability and wide angle. In fact my minimal less bulk approach means I use a camera phone mostly - again around 28mm equivalent - in fact the phone got me to liking that angle. Also printing out is a great idea - but also books are nice too.

youtube algorithm can surprise sometimes. if there is a small film like digicam, it's the Sigma fixed lens cameras, also the OG of this segment. Not only the operation and focus is like film, the output from RAW images also like film. I was going into Ricoh GR but then the tech is so old now like Ricoh has no love for GR anymore. For street, stealth, convenience, nothign beats a smartphone besides it can also shoot good video. The dynamic range on photos and videos from smartphones also insane. I used to shoot RAW exclusively prior smartphone.

I've just picked up a barely used GRIII a week ago and just started shooting street/architecture photography as well as mundane life momentd, and, i have to admit that i'm having a very hard time figuring out how to take good pitcures with it. The autofocus is always missing the point, it's not as snappy as advertised.. I guess i'll figure it out by using it, but compared to my bigger Sony A7III, i'm finding the learning curve to be quite steep. I love it's form factor tho, and love the fact that you can pair it to your phone. I'm definitely taking it with me everytime i go out !

When looking on YT or in magazines I often think, “That looks like film,” and am rarely surprised.
