@@derekmathews1557 Because Miles Millar and Alfred Gough admitted that they dragged out the Clark/Lana storyline too long at the expense of other characters and storylines. They said, “That was probably a three season love story that we told over six seasons," adding that they wished they had been “more adventurous with the other relationships." Clark and Lana in the comics have no relationship beyond high school, and attempting to keep Lana involved in the story beyond season 4 compromised the series because Lana simply didn't fit into Clark's post-high school storyline like Chloe and Lois did, and there was little for her to do other than be the girl Clark pines for. She wasn't a heroine like Lois Lane or Chloe Sullivan, she was just the love interest. Even worse, they made Lana into a Mary Sue stereotype; a perfect dream girl out of some 80s or 90s teen movie. She just wasn't that interesting of a character, and keeping her on the show beyond high school dragged both Clark and the show down, especially since Chloe and Lois were both far more important to Clark's storyline by season 5 than Lana was.

5x12 was the episode that had the potential to take Smallville to new territory and reinvent the status quo a little bit. I didn't like the use of time-travel to reverse everything, but I did like that there was still consequences by having Jonathan die instead. I would have either went with Lana dying from the car crash or changing the time-travel to just Clark saving Lana from the crash, but never taking away the moment when he revealed the truth to her. That way, no matter which version it was, there was a change that mattered. Yeah, Jonathan dying did have an impact on the show, but his death didn't really change a whole lot. Lana knowing the truth would have changed so much, even improve the relationship between her and Clark, while still having the impact of Jonathan dying. And if Lana's death was kept, then Lex knowing the truth would open the door to so much more to come later. While I'm at it, the show should have made Clark and Lana the endgame of the series. I know that the actress wanted to leave later but both Clark and Lana have far better chemistry and it would have been made sense to do so. Clark and Lois in this show always felt forced, and I never bought the relationship between them.

@@brisk2.0brisk7 It wasn't really Lana leaving that ruined the show for me, it was when Michael Rosenbaum and the showrunners left after Season 7. While I have my issues with the show after Season 5, it still felt like Smallville. Season 8 - 10 just didn't feel the same, and a lot of it has to do with its best villain and writers no longer being there.
@bc1sjw11 ай бұрын
Have to completely disagree. The chemistry, banter and back and fourths between Welling and Durance was off the charts. Smallvilles Clark needs a no nonsense strong woman like Erica's Lois; that relationship would also be pivotal to both further shape the man he is to become and for her to give him fortitude during his most challenging and darkest times as Superman. As brilliant as Lana was for accepting his secret, I don't think her character would have been strong enough to live a life with Superman and the responsibility he has.

I love this show but I was always so frustrated with the teases. It made for good episodes but also upset me. Specifically talking about things like when Clark “finally” told lana and then he crushed the diamond and proposed to her. Then it all goes ends up with the death of one person. Lana is killed and clark can’t bare it so he goes to Jor-el and Jor-El rewinds time. So basically this big moment ends up as another tease. So it was a relief when Lana actually learned the secret and didn’t have it undone. It wasn’t just with lana either. It happened constantly with Lex, Chloe, others. Pete was the only person who found out and never had it taken from him. The show is great from start to finish but it also has its heart breaking moments. A lot of them pertaining to Lana and a lot pertaining to Clarks other love interest. Like the death of the Native girl whos name escapes me as well as the death of the blonde gal with powers whos name also escapes me (give me a break I am tired). But honestly one of the parts that hurt the most was when Pete came to clark snd told him he was moving away because he wasn’t safe and Clarks secret wasn’t safe if he was around. I really wish that Pete would have been a start to finish character like Chloe ended up being for the most part. The story has to progress into superman and love with Lois but personally I just adore the early seasons of it where the show has conflict that is perfect for the story but is also small potatoes. It makes it seem like a simpler time for him snd all he has to worry about are meteor freaks. That and love with Lana. Don’t get me wrong I like Lois but once that part of the story hits you realize that everything the character you have been watching grow wanted, he won’t get any of it and will have to veer a different direction entirely

But a Uzi liaded with Kyptonite bullets would kill him and all they have to do is spray them at a whole crowd of people insuring that he would try to block the bullets with his famous bullet proof self it would be too late to stop himself when he realizes what they are, so he would take multiple hits and die and about some of the crowd killed to.

The two big drawbacks to the show: 1) the constant "resets" about the secret being revealed to someone,...and then they don't know and we're back to the status quo. 2) Not getting a proper Superboy, in costume, saving Smallville prior to his moving to Metropolis and being known as Superman.
