Definitely go with Sonos! You could go with an outdoor set on the walls and beam or arc soundbar for the tv. Also the move or roam for a portable option. Great home assistant plugin support too! PS - if you need any landscaping help hit me up, I’ll design you something nice and low maintenance ;)

Does the Sonos play through the Air Play or is it through Bluetooth? I want to keep the Home pod in the living room and have it play the outdoor speakers at the same time. Is that possible?

This was a great video where we benefited from your foresight to document your progress along the way. I agree that the TV cabinet is easily the center point for the enclosed porch. As a touch of motivation, yes, I would love to see how the Nanoleaf lights work in your new backyard. One simple recommendation: put an Eve Smartplug on the TV to see if it’s bleeding electrical use when the TV is off. I’ve added them to most of my home A/V equipment for that reason. Flic buttons and simple scenes control the set of plugs in each room so that’s it’s simple to turn them all on or off. With the TV being brand new and with Home connectivity, maybe they have better downtime electrical use management but that Eve plus will help you find out! Your new backyard looks awesome. Congratulations on finishing this and thanks for inspiring us!

8:30 The benefit of having a dedicated HomePod/Apple TV for any specific area is that you only need to use the command “turn on/off the tv”. I like that feature. Now if they can develop a smart drone or laser skeeter killer!! Great setup Shane. I remember your earlier video of you installing smart lights over the old deck so this is definitely a step up. Enjoy the new space. ❤️💪😎👍❤️

Great point for going with HomePod. My idea was actually doing Sonos, one of their portable models as you can take it to other areas of the yard if desired. And went on the porch leave it on its charging stand. We do this at home. I ended up adding a second roam because inevitably, the one on the porch seems to end up in other places as people use them. My complaint with the HomePod is Apple recommends liming it to six or else they get glitchy. I’m at my six since I’m in a very large house.

Curious as to why the joists are parallel to the house and the deck boards are perpendicular to the house instead of the other way around. I don’t have my covered patio finished yet but around our pool I have the Sonance landscape speakers powered by Sonos amp. Once the covered patio is finished there will be Sonos speakers in the ceiling and if we’re in the pool I can have the landscape speakers playing whatever is on the projector. The one thing I will say about Sonos though is whenever I had my inside Sonos speakers set up in HomeKit they always would mess up. After reading a lot of online forums I decided to delete them from HomeKit and factory reset all of them and not add them back into HomeKit. They’ve been flawless ever since.

Get a pair of Sonos speakers for stereo. I have had OG Sonos Play:1s mounted on my covered (roof only, open sides) deck for 10 years in the Pacific NW, and they have been great. Of course, now One/One SL or Era 100s will give you voice control and AirPlay. I recently added a Lifx light string to another part of the deck, not the matter one but HomeKit. I think it will work out great and doesn't disappear from my network like my Tuya stuff.

do you live in an area with Pollen? in Raleigh NC here, and our screen porch is a mess from March to May annually, so I'm wondering your experience with how your automatic shades and lights are doing and how you're cleaning them? Here we pretty much have to hose down the entire interior of our 14x18 screen porch at the end of pollen season, making me think as cool as your tech stuff is, it would not work here.
@ShaneCreates3 ай бұрын
Yes I live in SC, so we definitely have the pollen problem. It does get everywhere. I just use a blower (with a mask on) to blow off the pollen every so often during the sping. The shades stay rolled up unless someone is sitting on the porch. The TV also stays in the cabinet unless someone is using it. So they are not directly exposed to the pollen or other elements majority of the time.

It looks like your solar chargers for your blinds on the inside of your house next to the new covered patio are now "covered" up and won't be getting much light. What are your plans for those now? Good eye! Unfortunately a couple of those Switchbot Blind Tilt solar panels on the inside of the house now don't get enough sun. So I will just have to charge them the old fashioned way and plug them in every so often. I don't expect to have to charge them more than a couple times a year.
