1. Learn matchups and play online 2. Training mode, train everything 3. Watch better players with your character 4. Watch your games and see where you went wrong 5. Keep getting more information about the game from a good and reputable source 6. Money matches or just games with better players. Try to get better players to play you if you can, and see what you did wrong and what they thought you did wrong.

Most of the time when I am playing with others, I find out that they have behavioural patterns. When you are so into the game, you come to understand the difference between guessing, assuming and knowing. When your behavioural pattern is so dominant that it starts to predate your gameplay, your rival will KNOW your playstyle. Always rolling away from an aerial attack, always ground smash when edge-guarding etc. Try to change your behavioural pattern in a way to move your rival's expectations from knowing -> assuming -> guessing. Mix up your arsenal, don't play with your bag of tricks wide open. Don't be afraid to trust your guts when you attempt things that you never did before or even never assumed to be a thing. Invent your character. Reinvent the wheel.

Examples of me putting Jtails' tips into action: 1. I play Snake against a King K Rool. Noticed he was using the cannonball a lot, so I tested to see if I could crawl under it and I can, but his crown would always hit me. Noted. 2. In training mode I practice basic tec such as B reverse grenades, and trying to put c4 on the ledge (still working on this one) 3. Definitely learned the gist of how to play Snake from watching Vex, and of course JTAIL'S TUTORIAL THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH 4. I haven't saved any replays yet, but that's a good idea to see what bad habits you have 5. I watch pro players all the time on twitch. This also helps with tip number 1 to learn matchups. 6. Asking questions in smashboards forums or in pro players' twitch chats

True, but the addition of switching on stale moves in practice properly reflects percentage damage in an actual fight so that's a huge improvement. Also the trajectory lines from big hits help practice character spacing

This might sound counterintuitive, but something that really helped me was playing an online match with some friends... with some MASSIVE lag happening during the match. I'm talking Microsoft Powerpoint levels of slow. However since I was forced to watch myself play basically frame by frame, I quickly began to notice small problems with the timing of my attacks, not to mention it also helped me when I was trying to reflect attacks with Mewtwo's Confusion. It also cut me off from using certain attacks so frequently, because in slow motion you are FORCED to painstakingly watch each and every one of those attacks slooowly fail back to back and it becomes so grating to look at, so you learn real quick that you shouldn't waste more time trying the same faulty tactic again, so I ended up trying different attacks and noted where the hit boxes were going. So ever since I've been playing some battles on Special Smash in slow motion and paying very close attention to the subtleties of the animations of both mine and my opponents' characters. Then when I jump into regular-speed Smash, I still feel like I'm viewing the game in slow motion, despite the faster pace, and I was able to better time my attacks. I can't really describe how surreal the experience is other than it's what I imagine being super stoned might feel like. It was a surreal experience to say the least. But I do try to jump back into slow motion games every now and then just to see how I'm playing and seeing if I'm still repeating attacks consistently.

From my competitive gaming experience in cards and video games, the most important things in any competitive hobby are... 1-Understanding and time spent on your character. 2-"Neutral" game 3-Understanding of matchups and how to utilize your tools to nullify advantages. Being that smash is my next project,am I on the right track?

Mixing things up and having confidence but not losing that drive to learn always helps me in this game. Sometimes i’ll take a couple minutes to try another character out whenever I feel like i’m hitting a wall and forming bad habits. But definitely if you’re able to avoid that, just keep trying to be creative with your approaches, offensive defensive options.

I'm having the same problem. So far I'm liking the c stick as tilt attack, L bumper attack, R bumper special and b jump. I smash by combining atk/special, and I grab by shield/atk. It makes it easier for me since I have issues with my joints and I can't manage fast movements easily, so having each control spaced out so I don't have to use the same fingers for multiple inputs makes mistakes less likely for me.

Huge tip is if you end up playing the CPU consistently, dont go into autopilot or fall into patterns. Thats mistake number one. Change up play styles change the CPU opponents mix up stages. Practice your combos on a moving/fighting opponent. I'm not online yet due to internet issues. But to back up what I'm saying I have 2 friends in elite smash with their mains and I have yet to lose against them. And I play CPU most of the time cause I work too much to make it to locals. Refine your play styles for only a couple of characters and stick with them. Shoot to perfect everything about your mains.

Also I don't really believe in matchups that much. For example- If you go against someone using ike and you have pichu, obviously they beat you in the range game. And someone would consider that a bad matchup. When really all you need to learn is to time closing the gap when an opening occurs. If they beat you its not because it was a bad matchup. Its probably because theyre better with their character than you are with yours. Understand your main(s) inside and out. Know their weak points and work around them. Dont let the opponent expose you.

Jtails but what if you can’t play online
@JulesTrades
@JulesTrades 4 жыл бұрын
I recommend finding friends to play offline! If you can't play online, you could also practice vs different levels of computers.

@JulesTrades
@JulesTrades 4 жыл бұрын
@@deltahalo3498 not as good as pro level, but it's better than nothing. If you can't play online.. then you need to find people offline to play. If you can't do that, then all you can really do is cpus. It still helps a little bit.

look at the date of the video. elite smash is based on how many people are currently playing smash. It's at 10 Million now.

I agree with most that you say but money matching top players won't help the player. Let's be real honest. Top players want "scrubs" or lesser skilled players to money match them so they can make a profit. If you're a lesser skilled player, you'll have more success in viewing those top players habits or find a online player you know that's really good with a certain character and befriend them and learn the matchup. It's a more efficient and smarter way to get better than Jtails advice just to "shill the scrubs."

Don’t forget to PLAY WITH lower tier players. Remember where you came from and general life avise-don’t do what you don’t want done to you.

7. Make a youtube channel to make yourself known to go against high level players
@JulesTrades

I've actually just been competing for the past 10 years so I'm friends with most of the high level players anyway. The KZbin channel had nothing to do with it. I'm a competitor first, a youtuber second.
