If only they took 5% of the work that went into World of Light and put it into the Training Room. Then we wouldn't have to go out of our way to mod in the most basic of features. Seriously why can't I instruct a CPU to air dodge and jump when they start getting hit? That's like one of the fundamental basics of testing combos...
@montesideacc6 жыл бұрын
tbf I'm not a hardcore nintendo fanboy myself and at this point I really only own their consoles for smash, but it's very reasonable to recognize just how out of touch japanese game companies can be when it comes to esports and competitive gaming in general. Yes, there are exceptions, but they're not titans of esport industry, culturally speaking, like korean and american devs. As competing for non-pot money is still considered gambling. While this doesn't answer your question directly, it combined with how casual of a gaming company nintendo has its roots in being, can help explain why nintendo can seem largely out of touch at the worst possible moments. No idea on bandai namco's end though
@servantofcygnus6 жыл бұрын
it’s almost like to casuals, a combo actually being completely true and having a couple frames of vulnerable time is more or less the same it’s almost like to casuals, forcing the opponent to do things like airdodge and jump when hit is mostly irrelevant it’s almost like to this game’s target audience - to the vast majority of people who buy it - the training mode is already far beyond sufficient. as dedicated as the competitive community is, it’s never going to change who the game is actually made for. disappointing, but completely expected
@montesideacc6 жыл бұрын
@@servantofcygnus the 'marketed for casuals' argument never actually holds up when you consider how easy it is to satisy both a competitive and casual audience. Casuals don't hate extra features the same way competitive players are legitimately hurt by the exclusion of features
@servantofcygnus6 жыл бұрын
WA.Monte >competitive players >easy to satisfy did you miss the part where people have bitched literally every time Nintendo gives them an inch, because it’s not the mile they asked for? Quickplay lets people pick the kinds of stages, amounts of items, and specific modes that they want to play on, and tries to average it out when there’s a ruleset difference between two players. Strictly speaking, this is the best possible system for casual players, i.e. the vast majority of players - it was never built for competition or ramping your skill (which, no, Elite Smash does not imply; the game needs to be balanced for casual play, too), because people consistently prefer using their own ranking systems and websites to janky in-game rankings in most games. Battle Arenas offer an easy way to go for the exact ruleset you want, and even play the same matchups over and over instead of dealing with a completely random pool of people. But instead of recognizing this, people LOST THEIR FUCKING MINDS, because the mere idea that the game isn’t (and never will be) made with them as the crowd Nintendo is incentivized to please apparently gives other Smash players headaches. In the same vein, training mode both offers frame-by-frame playback and the ability to control the training dummy, allowing you to test the validity of any combo in the game even while alone, yet people still lost their shit at the fact that the combo counter isn’t perfect or the fact that you can’t tell the dummy how to DI - as though they’re not perfectly equipped to get their practice in regardless. Please don’t tell me competitive players are even remotely easy to satisfy. Maybe that’s true for real fighting games, but competitive Smash players are the most incendiary, insatiable people on the face of the planet about the fact that Nintendo won’t single them out as the demographic that needs to be satisfied, and that sure as fuck isn’t okay. A note: casual players care very little about minor features being left out compared to competitive players, but the complete inverse is true for... you know... modes. Actual game content. I have yet to meet a single casual player who isn’t upset that customs were removed - removed solely because a competitive fanbase religiously obsessed with never testing anything banned them without cause, the same reason Mii sizes also went into the gutter. I’ve yet to meet anyone not disappointed in the absence of Smash Run, or anyone outspoken to be okay with the absence of a second SSE. You could strip the game down to just VS. mode and the whiny

Your so right. Idk whats going through Sakurai's brain. Gives us complex options like a training grid, launch distances, and invincibility display but dosent give us the most BASIC fucking options like set CPU to DI away, or to airdodge... Its mind boggling

You know there's just one option we need in training mode A cpu behavior "mimic" option: You turn it on input a move and then the CPU will do the move you just did but indefinitely and on every frame Jump/air dodge to practicing against jumping/air dodging out of combos Input an attack and the CPU will do that specific attack until buffer is turned off. You can even take it a step further with the "Advanced Mimic" which will remember an entire string of inputs and activate the string when a certain button is pressed. (Probably taunt buttons to not interfere with actual inputs) Not you can practice against any specific situation that you feel is necessary Then again that's just my *IDEA*

why would you demolish a gamecube controller when you can set up an Arduino Micro to act as a controller all by itself?
@CaptainL5 жыл бұрын
having a physical controller to do input recording with is much nicer than a standalone Arduino. You'll also need the gamecube controller port connector no matter what, and I imagine most smashers have at least a couple old 3rd party controllers lying around that are perfect candidates for it.
@DragoSmash5 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainL you don't need a Gamecube controller port, at all, the Arduino Micro can emulate the controller by itself, and you can send stuff to the Arduino Micro so it can switch between multiple patterns or even make your own without having to reprogram it
@CaptainL5 жыл бұрын
@@DragoSmash I guess if you go directly through USB then yeah that would work. However it still doesn't provide easy access to input recording. It's a good solution if you don't have GCCs to spare, I just have tons of old 3rd pary/subpar ones lying around so it wasn't a huge consideration for me.
@DragoSmash5 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainL input recording would be even better, with the help of a computer along with the Arduino Micro you can make keyboard macros to send over as controller inputs
@CaptainL5 жыл бұрын
@@DragoSmash I'm not sure I'd qualify that as better, since it's something that can be done with both methods. The no-gcc method loses access to letting a player record complex input sequences on a controller they're comfortable with.
