Corgan is way more of a guitar hero than I think people give him credit for. Yeah i know he's loved by fans... but he's actually a phenomenal riff machine. Those Hendrix solo's are crazy too. Even when he does something "simple" he injects with so much swagger that it grooves hard.

It's both harmonizing but Billy's voice is a bit louder. In concert, D'arcy would take that whole part. That's one reason no SP reunion. D'arcy feels betrayed by Iha and Corgan. W/out her, no good SP sound. Great observation!

Two things sell this song for me: 1 - The driving drums. They really carry the song. 2 - The rhythm guitar tone. Billy Corgan is using a Fender Strat with Lace Sensor pickups that temper the usual Strat quack and allow a bit more sustain. Combined with some fuzz, they really give the guitar on this album a unique sound that is both dirty and smooth. I personally like the guitar solo. It does have a very noisy sound, but it fits the song IMO.

Yay, more Pumpkins!, I really like this song, IMO simple doesn't mean it isn't good and doing something complicated doesn't make it great if it isn't enjoyable to listen to( like some of Dream Theater's stuff for example). When I left my dad's vinyl collection in the early 90's, Smashing Pumpkins were my first love. And I *really* loved them. I'm in the Tool Army now, but am going back to SP since their announcement of their 2024 tour. I've been studying music since 1989. I absolutely love complicated tunes.

All time iconic solo for me! Very unique composition to it. The melodic moments are great hooks, it's passionate, but tortured, squealing high and growling low. Iconic. This is my all time favourite car jam to freak out to (just ahead of Radiohead's The Bends). Also, the guitar sound is all time iconic the way he layers the guitars, at the time pioneering a sound. But, yes, the rhythms, those subdivisions actually start right from the first measure of the song! And that rhythm really is the riff, always pumps me up!

Yeah! "The world is vam-pire!"...hehehe...The solo was perfect for the song, scraping the fuzz off the song a little bit...like waking up from a fuzzy sleep to the danger of a new day--just a little painful. hahaha...7.8 is a great score for this little ditty.

Billy does that with the guitar on purpose lol... He LITERALLY wanted to make an album of "squeals" just to piss ppl off... This was emo before emo if I'm being objective because it was what angry and depressed teenage gen x'ers felt like in the 90's... Jimmy Chamberlain is a phenomenal drummer. D’arcy is amazing too. I have a hard time with Billy Corgan. I dated a woman who knew a guy that helped record it and produce it. Billy couldn’t play for garbage and the album took 9 months to record. Crazy. Still an amazing band and songs and albums… for the most part. Edit: Was talking about Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness.
@Bowseefuss101
@Bowseefuss101 2 жыл бұрын
Anybody with ears can tell you that's bullshit. Billy was the one to do most of the guitar and bass tracks on both of their first 2 albums if I'm not mistaken because the others couldn't perform the reps Butch Vig demanded of them. If you mean this album in particular, Corgan during this time was suicidal so like, idk maybe cut him some slack for that lol? But anyway I doubt that story because Billy constantly performs well and always has.
@flightgravity7483
@flightgravity7483 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s not true at all. It’s well documented that Billy picked up the slack in the studio for James Iha and D’Arcy for this album. The producer, Butch Vig, told Billy that their performances weren’t cutting it and they were wasting time, so Billy made the decision to play a majority of the guitar and bass parts himself. Top it off with Jimmy Chamberlin disappearing for days at a time trying to score drugs, and you can see why this album was a nightmare to record.

@@jonathandufern7421 It still sounds like your info came from someone that just didn’t like Corgan. The claim that he couldn’t play is hilarious, and if Mellon Collie took that long to finish, maybe it’s because they had recorded nearly 60 complete songs. Corgan is notoriously a difficult dude, but he’s had chops since the first album.

Absolutely LOVED SP in my teens, however the concert I went to when they were promoting the Mellon Collie album was hands down one of the worst concerts I've ever been to. It was so disappointing. A large part of that was because they had a section of the concert where they played "that solo" type of distorted, feedback laden squeals etc...for about 20 minutes consecutively. At first everyone was into it, but after a couple of minutes everyone was like "ok, enough already, just get back to playing your songs." Want a song from the same era with the smoothest guitar solos you'll ever hear? NO ONE reacts to them, but I think they were one of the most underrated bands of the grunge era, and their singer / lead guitarist is absolutely sublime on the guitar. Dinosaur Jr and their song "Get Me." If you do get around to reacting to it make sure you do the longer version which has all 3 guitar solos. The shorter version cuts one of them out and it's nowhere near as good. Linky for you :) kzbin.info?search_query=dinosaur+jr+get+me

Wellllll these aren't earbuds, they are IEM's from Ultimate ears. I went with the UE11 model, and they sound amazing. There are 4 professional studio grade audio drivers in each monitor, with triple frequency crossover between the 4 drivers. These are the same IEM's that pretty much every professional musician uses on stage. The only thing that could possibly sound better than there, would be getting studio monitors like Focal or PreSonus.
