I got to work on a 2JZ for the first time last year. Pretty fun, mostly simple, a few things that will actually make you appreciate Subaru. I'm gonna shoot you a message to warn about a few traps I hit. As for the VVTi gear, they are relatively simple inside and can be rebuilt with a simple O-ring kit basically. They are rather expensive. Could just rust remover soak that one. One thing to be aware of is that it has to go back together in the correct one of five orientations. Screwed us over on timing. Fun stuff!

To each their own my man. I already know what this combo is like... It's not the blasphemy.... it's the weight/balance. Way higher COG and way more forward weight. Have fun man. I'm not the one driving it lol.
@Smeedia6 ай бұрын
The forward weight shouldn’t be much greater than when the EG was in there, the EG also sat another foot past where the JZ ends. Cog will definitely change but I don’t foresee it being all that bad
@josephmatuszak38556 ай бұрын
@@Smeedia It's the block weight. Weigh both engines, it's significant. At least to someone with minimal track time. I drove one years ago in a hawk eye and it plowed like a RS6 every corner and ate the front tires like a starved beggar. It should go quick in a straight line as long as the drivetrain doesn't buckle.
@railfanatic14166 ай бұрын
@josephmatuszak3855 man you know this thing is going to handle like a pig around a track. 800 hp EG actually built right (things like putting assembly lube on the block side of the head studs, proper valve springs, not using a shit baffle design and then drilling holes in it, just error after error) would've been way more fun in a WRX than another copy/paste 1000hp+ 2J. There are 1200hp EGs with way less supporting mods than what went into this

Tanner buddy, you diving into the deep end already haha. Wishing you the best of luck with it, its gonna be fun! Some notes, with that power level in mind something the engine will experience is fretting of the main caps leading to a shorter bearing life, the only other real major thing is the factory freeze plugs is another weak point. Both are pretty invasive mods however. A torque plate is a necessity for any engine but alot of machine shops will only carry what they typically work on, although personally I'd send the block to mazworx or real street for the machining and future proofing

@@Smeedia it may be easier to initially tune on the small turbo but I have this feeling that the 2j will spool the big turbo, but it’s going to come down where you want your torque curve to be, I’m not sure where they end up on a 2j but having 2 turbos and 2 tunes for say daily driving on the small turbo, then changing over for drag race or roll racing if needed. Fact is. You will be learning all about the 2jz and becoming an expert soon in what it needs to be happy, and from my personal opinion of you can build and drive successfully a Subaru motor, then your meticulous enough to build or do any motor, subarus are the hardest to get right, haveing the ability to have pinned main caps, do a head gasket and even rebuild in frame like the Cummins guys do, and then 4 studs per cylinder….. the only downfall subaru made. Should have had 8 head studs per side. Like the Porsche. Having 4 studs a cylinder is key and I can’t believe Subaru dropped the ball and cut that corner, 🤦♂️ or they are geniuses and said just look at the money coming in on headgasket repairs.
