I 1000% Agree with your cons. My brother and I saw the movie last week and are still talking about it and how we are both still baffled (but more confused) with everything that lead to the end from like the 2nd Act with the dilemma of not knowing when things were a hallucination/fake or in reality/real and how that is translated especially in comparison to the 1st Movie. Another thing is that I thought the water would have been more significant (even though they gave a reason within the film as to why she almost constantly chugs down water) but it ended up more like a product placement even though I would maybe thought it would have affected the demon in some way At least It Follows, even though near the end the rules get muddy, has much more consistency and makes things easier to follow but then again that has a sequel coming next year so we will see what happens.

I found it odd there are suddenly two horror movies (other one being Trap) released close together with the theme centring around a Lady Gaga like pop star. I thought the actress was good (no idea who she was) but the end was just disappointing. The jump scares were indeed good.

I so agree with you about the Morris thing. Why wasn't he around in the first movie? I hate when sequels do this shit. Trying to add new ways to defeat (or start/spread) the curse just dilutes it and makes the whole thing more messy and confusing than it needs to be.

You both read my mind about this movie. Also, subscribed! How do you pass the smile demon IF the death of the person with the demon isnt actually witnessed? The whole movie hinged on that point for mw and I didnt buy anything else. After her whole encounter and sleepover with her BFF, I felt nothing after that "happened." The BFF says, "Hi Elisabeth" to Skye's mom, who doesnt respond because the BFF isnt there. This movie could have been great but i dont think the writers knew what to really do this time. Kyle is an awesome actor and so amazing in Strange Darling. Naomi needs a musical because I know shes a triple threat of an. Actress who I enjoy watching on screen.
@hardcutreviews2 ай бұрын
Thinking back on it, there’s no reason for the friend to say hello to the mom if she was only living in Skye’s head. Throwing you off just to get around solving those issues in the writer’s room.

Thought about this going the route of someone much younger. For it to be a child, they would have to had a severe amount of trauma at a very young age since the demon feeds on trauma. Would be interesting to see.

A very weird movie. I really enjoyed it... until I didn't. The first one had a palpable sense of dread, this one has jump scares. Also, it ends exactly the way I thought it would when I first heard the protagonist in this was a pop singer... and I was pleasently surprised, when it looked like it actually wouldn't. And then it did anyways. Bummer. In retrospect almost the entire second half of this thing is pointless, which pisses me off so hard, especially because I really loved part one. I feel there’s so much potential for the 3rd movie. Now that the parasite/ smile demon has spread to over thousands, it can explore what it would be like to have a CHILD having this parasite percifically he one that we saw get her poster signed at the meet and greet scene. If the host were to be a child, it could explore the fact that the parents/ guardians would think the child has and hyper imagination or just a lil imaginary friend. It’s more likely they would reach out for help, and even MORE likely the demon just get brushed off. It a cool concept I would LOVE to see them explore in smile 3

I dont think this was about the host addressing the demon, it was the demon holding her hostage until she would have an audience to do the most with. And Kyles character want to pass to the brother killing the guy at the door. But guy shot at him and he made a kill shot by accident. Luckily the other guy was there and he did pass the curse. Running while being shot at, his death was a mistake. The bigger question was if the demon knew that it had a pop star when she went over to the apartment. Otherwise itd just be a regular pass. It otherwise got lucky with her.

I see a lot of people complaining about sequels and how it comes with a lot of predictable trops that sequels use, with that being said I think it was smart that they didn’t go with Kyle Gallner Character as you would expect. Naomi Scott really killed it in this role and I just think it was interesting going with a pop star with built in Trauma rather then a therapist who’s more grounded. That’s why I think it was easier for the demon to control her mind hence the longer time of the hallucinations. Could be wrong but I just overall loved this movie and think it was such a great addition to the first one.

Got us? No, it’s annoying because it’s one of the biggest “do nots” in film/tv writing. “It was all a dream!” is the ultimate get out of jail free card when you can’t connect A to B in a narrative. It’s lazy and it removes any sense of rules for the world. The first film duped the audience at the end when Rose thinks she gets out of the house only to find herself back in it. There is the benefit of it being the first film in the series so you can do it and get away with it. This film tripled down on it instead of being smart about it.
