Hi I appreciate your videos. I am a rising junior in undergrad. I don’t really know any other pre dental students, as my school is quite small (I am in a predental club but the other three members are graduating soon). Like many and post people, I never got anything below a B in high school. I went to a huge high school, was in the top of my class, played sports, I did it all. Once I got to college everything was so different. I had no idea how to study. To this day I’m still not set on what I’m supposed to do to study. I’ve asked peers who are all doing better than I, and it’s all just a mass of different responses. I am in clubs as I volunteer but my gpa is a 3.1. Ive gotten C’s in anything chemistry and I’m retaking all that except orgo 1 (I got a C+) but I got a C- in orgo 2 so I guess I have to retake that too. I will probably need an additional semester to retake things and finish up undergrad which already sets me a year back in dental school. Definitely time management and lack of study skills are my issues. Desperately trying to learn and save/fix my gpa (I am a biology major). I’m a horrible test taker so I know the DAT will require a ton of preparation for me I plan to take it spring of my senior year since I’m doing an extra semester. Lastly, I know you already made videos about this but any other pointers are greatly appreciated!

Hello! I'm glad you reached out because we all struggle with asking for help when we need it most! I was just like you in undergrad and found myself unable to find a community of like minded individuals and also studying mass amounts of hours with no results. I suggest you try joining ASDA as a predental student and they will send you a lot of valuable information including a booklet that will show you what schools you may qualify for with your currents stats. For the latter concern of yours, I suggest you look at other youtube videos of and find a study method that works for you. It's amazing how nobody every teaches us how to learn but there are a lot of valuable ted talks and youtubers out there that attempt to address this issue. One of my favorites is @AliAbdaal and his video on how to study for exams. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5yvn4OYfsuZrqc&t Best of luck to you and please reach out again if you need any other help!

There is always a trade off. Friend at undergrad got 3.9 but other friend got 3.0. Difference was one friend just studied and nothing else. Other friend was selling real estate/investing in spare time, playing in quite a lot of sports, building strong social network etc.

Definitely true! Everything in moderation is key and how you end up managing your time is entirely up to you. There's no one formula for getting into dental school. Just wise choices. Did both friends end up getting into dental school?

@@SmilesforYoo 3.9 went to dental school. 3.0 decided to go full time in real estate as had already built up a lucrative passive income from that. He is using income to live off about $5k a month and growing business doing development slowly

Hi! I know this is late, but I have a question of the DAT. I am entering as a sophomore this semester and was wondering when is the best time to start studying for the DAT and take the test as well?
@SmilesforYoo
@SmilesforYoo 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! Sorry for the extremely late reply! It's ideal to take it the summer before your Junior year at the very latest. This way you will have a DAT score if you decide to apply in June of that same year! (This is if you do not want to take a GAP year)

what were your grades like in grade 12? Also, for dentistry does it matter what you do you major in?
@SmilesforYoo
@SmilesforYoo 4 жыл бұрын
Hello! To be 100% honest, I can not remember what my grades were in my senior year of high school. All I remember is that I graduated within the top 11% of my class. WHY do I remember this number specifically? Because all students that graduate within the top 10% in Alaska get a full ride to the University of Anchorage Alaska! I unfortunately did not make the cut hahaha. Lastly, it doesn't matter what you major in as long as your take the required pre-requisite courses for dental school and do well in them. While it varies from school to school, most require the following. 8 hours Biology with lab 8 hours Physics 8 hours English 8 hours General Chemistry with lab 8 hours Organic Chemistry with lab I hope this helps!
