Frankly the fact that Smite even lasted this fucking long on a modified version of UE3 speaks volumes of how much people love Smite's core gameplay. A present-day engine for Smite 2 alone was enough to get me to re-install Smite 1 just to play the game again after a year. This is SORELY needed.

100% agree. At first, I was disappointed about the whole skin porting issue. But I quickly realized that having a modern game engine that provides game devs a stable environment to work in is absolutely worth not having different colored pixels on the screen. It'd be nice to play Smite without having the game crash every other game lol

To be honest, I'm in the camp that wants Smite but better. I don't really care about losing the skins if it means I don't have to worry about crashes anymore. The constant DCs and frame rate drops are insane in Smite 1, so Smite 2 is definitely a welcomed change!!

Smite 2 needs a rewards system that teaches new players how to play, build & about the game and its mechanics. There's none of that apart from youtube. And it makes new players leave just as fast as they came. This system should be borderline forced, because most ppl would just skip or skim through, but forced in a manner that is rewarding

Prototyping with UE5 is a huge thing. Playing with abilities ideas for a new god you don't need a team of programmers behind you. Get a generic model, figure out the ability you're trying to create. Spaghetti code a quick example in place with blueprints and then you have something you can show off as a reference to for it to be programmed efficiently.
@24kam48
@24kam48 4 ай бұрын
Just not having to deal with spaghetti code anymore is going to do wonders for the game. I most excited about the posibilities for god design now that there should be less domino effects for adding and changing things. This is prime opportunity for some much needed reworks, ajustments for transition to Smite 2 and some new ideas that where maybe a little "too inventive" for the UE3 spaghetti code we had before.

Mobas just aren't new player friendly at all. Either you take the time to learn or you don't. Also be prepared to die on cooldown. That's why smite2 will be probably the best opportunity for new players, since everyone will be learning.
@PhantomBracku
@PhantomBracku 4 ай бұрын
The most important thing that needs to be accomplished with smite 2 is growing the player base and visibility and i believe it can but that's up to the new players willing to learn the game if they've never played a moba. Patience is the overall objective
@mvcfitz33
@mvcfitz33 4 ай бұрын
Well that’s also on the current player base as well. If a new player gets in to 5 matches and gets screamed at and spam pinged in all 5 matches because they’re new, of course they’re not gonna wanna keep learning. It’s gonna have to be an effort from everyone.

Honestly, the best way to do that is by having the game have more casual paths of entry, which means modes without items, levels, and minimal objectives. This way new players can just focus on learning basic mechanics/ god matchups BEFORE they get bombarded with itemization, and objective play. But it can't just be arena, cuz you're correct in saying that patience is the overall objective, and current arena does such a bad job in teaching that. Slash is probably the mode that can best serve as a transition for casual players, and with Smite2 being much easier to develop/ change content for thanks to the engine upgrade they can fine tune those modes more often, so that they be fun and fresh while solidifying the core identity of MOBAs into the newbie's brain.
@PhantomBracku
@PhantomBracku 4 ай бұрын
@RomDog-2648 yeah that's the biggest thing players have trouble with is mechanics. Knowing when to fight, when to run, how to build, how to siege. I kno I said how to build but again HOW TO BUILD lol. There's a lack of tutorial within and outside the game to be real when we consider there's a small portion of people who actually want to teach

That problem is new players being paired with really bad players. Low elo players always want to blame someone for why they personally are playing so poorly. Sometimes, things go well and I end up shredding on Cernunnos or Apollo, sometimes I just get owned completely. In Overwatch I know why i lose when I lose and why I win when I win. The biggest problem by FAR right now in Smite for new players is the playtime cap on entering ranked queue. Even a half decent Elo system should filter bad/inexperienced players to the bottom so flatly just blocking everyone and telling even experienced MOBA players to go play 2-300hrs of gods they don't like will doubtlessly hurt player retention. It says a lot about the state of the dev team that their best idea for ranked matchmaking balance was to just timegate people while anyone who's ever played a MOBA knows with absolute certainty how little time helps people who are bad at the genre.

Issue Smite 2 will have that were Smite issues as well: 0. Hackers will probably still exist due to incompetence of the developers. 1. Servers will still be terrible and the game won't be able to compete with other MOBA's cause of that 2. Bugs and glitches will 100% will have the same severity just as in Smite 1 (this is due to poor programming skills which was the case in most scenarios in Smite 1) 3. Matchmaking won't be fixed even though there was a nice presentation of how they want to fix it so the only way to is to get more players which WON'T happen due to the two things up above that I mentioned. 4. Splitting the player base is a bit strange and not good in my opinion. This shows that Hi-Rez themselves don't believe in the project of Smite 2 and are a bit scared. The downside is that a lot of players will decide to stick with Smite 1 which will be players with older consoles which probably generate a lot of revenue and that is the only reason I see for splitting the player base. 5. I am quite certain that Hi-Rez won't listen to the community and will make the same mistakes with Smite 1 in a lot of aspects. The things I mentioned up above and most likely they will have competitive Smite for 2 years in different regions then will 100% combine it in a Pro League and do the same mistake, that's almost a guarantee in my opinion. 6. No skins transferred is kinda obvious cause they would need the revenue in order to sustain Smite 2. Also, the game is free to play so I was 100% sure there would be no skin transfers. Me personally I will get the legacy gems and all, but will wait to see how the game goes before putting any money in it. They could've at least transferred the Tier 5 skins that you own. 7. I hope they have better ideas for the game and skins cause it feels they would need to have great ideas. 8. Balancing of the game will remain poor. That is again almost certain because the same people will make the decisions for the game. Overpowered release characters, which will take months, may be even years to balance out, crazy metas where the characters will be loosing their identities and it will be more important what item you build (we saw that even in the Season X Worlds with Pele/Ymir, also there are a lot more cases like that, im just giving that example cause it's fresh and I don't wanna dive into it more), etc. 9. Cool features of the game they start will yet again remain unfinished or left partially functioning, or reverted, or left in the game full of glitches. 10. Unclear idea of what they want to do. So far they say Smite 2 is a sequel to Smite 1 and another game at the same time while splitting the player base in 2 games which basically shows a of fear that Smite 2 will work out. If they don't yet understand that Smite 2 has to succeed and that Hi-Rez need to put all their effort into it then my humble opinion is that it is... Well, let's say it succeeds because I really love the idea for the game, just not that much the implementation. Good things I see so far: 1. Better graphics 2. Better engine for sure and presumably easier to work with (it depends a lot on the effort they put in). Splitting the engineering team in two teams for Smite 1 and Smite 2 is definitely a mistake. 3. No more legacy code which I really hope they do well and follow best practices for software development or things might end up the same. 4. Fairly loyal community which without a doubt spend money on the game or at least play it. The game needs not only payers but the loyal non-paying players in order for them to succeed on their MATCHMAKING fix project. Also, the community is may be less toxic compared to other MOBAS. 5. A chance for a fresh start, may be change of management too cause there needs to be someone who makes the decisions on Product level unbiased and without the fear that 20 pro players might get mad at him in Twitter. There really needs to be someone new with fresh ideas, new and modern way of thinking. For example, I think it was Coca-Cola the company that doesn't allow people older than 21 to be in their marketing team (i might be wrong) in order to sell their product to new generations. Smite has it's uniqueness in terms of being the most popular third-person MOBA and it will be a shame if they bottle things up. (DONT BE LIKE ARSENAL!!!!) 6. I strongly suggest adding different lore Gods instead of pumping the same ones over and over again. Also, adding stuff like Bake and Martichoras made from interns 10 years ago cause they were probably focused on Smite 2 and wanted a quick releases without too much effort is not the way to do things. I really hope they don't get too away from the original concept of different pantheons. To sum it up I am excited for Smite 2 and I want them to do things better. It's just that this is Hi-Rez and you can't expect much so don't get your hopes up guys and everything good that comes with it you will embrace.

I'm most excited about the changes to VFX/SFX Snappy animations with more weight added onto them (screenshake works so well for this), with crunchy/ crisp sound effects. Fresh new UI, and UI customization options, with hype music, and pre-match flare. These upgrades alone is enough to earn a 2 on a title, imo. Ofc you have the new way to build items, with new itemization system to play with, which is also huge. But the former is what will attract players to the game and grow the community.

I played SMite for a little while, and I loved it. Played it for about a month straight. The issue I ran into that made me quit was match maker. I was a new player, but I've had years of experience with Leage of Legends. So I knew basics of wave manament, pushing for objectives, stuff like that. And not before long, I got matched against players *way* out of my league. Following a series of losses, I would get matched *with* players way out of my league. So my match history was just an alternating series of red blocks and blue blocks. At one point, I was playing and I got matched against the same 5-man premade group a couple of times in a row. And I said to myself, I'll try one more, but if I get matched like this again, I'm not touching the game ever again. And I got matched against *the same 5-man premde*. I left the match and haven't restarted the game ever since. The gameplay is fun, for sure, but matchmaking is a meta-component that I cannot live with. If I wanted a terrible experience playing against way better or weaker opponents, I'd just go back to LoL.

5:52 Nope, it's not about the skins, it's about the disregard for their loyal community. My understanding is that we're apparently only being refunded gems based on what our account has ever bought in total. So what about buying a battle pass that unlocked 3 skins for 600 gems, plus the chests that are part of the paid reward track? Players invest their time for the greater rewards, there was moments when I didn't feel like even playing the game but I really wanted the final reward in a pass or bought it so I grinded it out. You're going to tell me that the 8 skins I got from my time and effort are reduced to a meager 600gems as the entry cost for that battle pass? What about completing an entire overpriced event or odyssey? Sure you can get bonus chests as rewards that could contain more skins in the odyssey, or special skins for buying everything in an event, but none of those have any value now? That's a sick fucking joke that spits in the face of any player who was willing to spend their money on the game to begin with. I honestly can't believe how anyone could accept having hundreds or even potentially more than a thousand dollars worth of content from their account erased and doled out in whatever they justify as an equivalent exchange. If there isn't a skin to gem, voice pack to gem, item to gem type of ratio they're scamming players who put in time to earn all of these things. I'd rather the servers die out with players having to get host than have them take everything you earned away from you only to repackage it all in some new monetization with individual god ascension packs or whatever the fuck else they end up gating every repackaged thing behind.

I was initially quite upset and ridiculed the design for Smite 2. In the light you provided I can see the need for the game to be rebooted. It's clear it's overall better for the game. Ive also changed my stance on the skins situation. It was stated most of the designs for the skins have to be recreated for UE5. Meaning it wasn't a simple import as I initially thought. These artists need to be paid for the recreation of the work. That being said, T5's and certain exclusive skins should absolutely be imported and free to anyone who purchased them.

I’m coming back to the game for smite 2. My main concern is that running smite 1 and 2 at the same time will split the fanbase and matchmaking won’t be all that much better because of a split player base playing 2 different games. I would like to see a strategy from Hi-Rez to fully transition to Smite 2 at some point or make it so undeniably better that no one wants to play smite 1. I could care less about the whole skin debate. I think what they are doing is pretty fair for a new game and even though I spent money on smite 1, I’ll like spend more on smite 2 for my love for the game.

I shouldn't be matched with people that just started playing that die 15+ times and have no idea how to build items. 75% of my games have one to two clueless new gamers. Making 75% nearly impossible to win. They also refuse to forfeit most of the time. This is a huge deterrent and why I have to take a mouth of two off sometimes.

Smite is definitely one of the Big 3 in MOBAs but I feel like there's a massive gap of popularity between where League and Dota are at and where Smite is. Idk if it's still like this but the last time I played ranked, instead of having a queue timer that counts up and starts the match when enough people join, there's a rotating timer that counts down and only starts once that timer hits zero. I don't think I've ever seen that in another game? It shows how little faith they have in their population that they mask long queue times like that.

Effectively this should mildly increase quality, but dramatically increase the development cycle. My only issue with the skins is this, it's not too tall an ask to take some time to put the T5's in the 2nd iteration. It'd give the game a boat load of flair, and I think it's a shame to say none of them will transfer over when they are the ones that generated the most in game purchases. We bought them knowing they were digital goods and would be gone at any moment. So it's not unfair, but definitely something that would appease the player base without putting too much undue burden on the teams like transferring all skins would. My only caveat would be to release them over time, and give the new game a chance to shine on its own. But still get them into the game.

My personal take on smite 2 is I played smite like 9 or 10 years ago... Was never able to bring and convert my friends from league to Smite (back then i guess i needed my friends for everything lol), and in a short time, because of that, i lost my interest in the game (The fact that back then league of legends was in their golden year didnt help) 10 years pass... In a blink of an eye... Me and some of my friends(Old gaming core group) decided to come back to League for the nostalgia of "the good old times"(didnt played the game during 6 years) and we had a blast of a time together. By playing league (a moba).. .Got a reminded of another incredible moba that i liked a lot and felt sorry to no play that much back then, decided to come back and try it again!!! Downloaded it!!! Opened it! Played an arena match, closed the game and unnistalled it a couple of weeks later. The game just didnt age that well for me unfortunately After watching the news that a smite 2 was coming,with better visuals and a overall modernized experience i got really happy and excited I can say that i will 100% try the game again and hope to stay for long time I know that im not alone in this and a lot of people feel the same as i do, Smite2 will be crucial to bring both new and returning players like myself to the game

Curious to see how Smite2 stacks up against upcoming competitors such as Predecessor (Paragon remake) and Ethereal Clash of Souls (new 6v6 moba experience). Been playing smite for several years now and I love game. But some of the newer mobas coming out have a feature in the game that just can't be overlooked for modern gaming now, and that is access to verticality for terrain and travel, aiming, and attacking. It just adds a much more needed dynamic feel imo. Hopefully Smite2 does well. Looking forward to seeing the game grow to greater potentials, but whether I play right out the gate will honestly depend on the starting/early roster. Support main here and if I don't see Geb or Maui or Atlas or Athena then most likely I'll be on other games until then unfortunately. But glhf to everyone else! ❤ Also, I pray HiRez keeps those fun game mechanics in Smite2 that we've seen in conquest such as the releasing of the Titans, more objective control points, and especially that new teleporting system from one side of the map to the other :)

I think another reason that Smite and MOBAs in generally don't really keep new players is that it's not super welcoming. Like maybe I'm just stupid, but I installed League and played the tutorial and barely know wtf is happening still. I can't even watch a guide video on like what different roles should be doing in the usual three lane mode, it's always very broad ideas when that's not really what I'm worried about. Again, maybe just me, but I find it hard to get into an online game when I don't know what I should be doing, especially if it's collaborate and with random people. Making mistakes in games like that just feels inevitable when it's so hard to find info on it. I've just recently been thinking about this because I tried to get into League though. It's so fucking hard, and Smite Conquest is the same. The only reason I was able to play Smite is because it had other non-demanding modes, but it's still a shame I can't play the flagship mode without fumbling around perpetually paranoid that I should be rotating or something

Also when they were talking about fixing things during their play tests it was pretty clear they had Smite 2 running at a very low trick rate. That's disappointing when new competitive games are pushing for higher and higher tick rates or even going "tickless" like CS2.

Hope we finally get more complex kits with the new engine and better code. Hoping for Bellerophon riding Pegasus into battle and Freyr with his living sword or Nabu for a true invoker type god.

I personally think the visuals will be better and all of that but as a "veteran" what I want more is the new changes they made to items, relics, matchmaking, new abilities or reworks(some gods need it like aracne if i had to say never was a fun of that) and most importantly I wanna see combat blink 😊😊

I think the skin issue, which is mostly on the Smite's subreddit (which tbf it's always been a clownshow) is really overblown. Most people understand why skins cannot be transferred. People who are saying the game is DOA because of the skin count being lowered, quite frankly, needs to get a grip. I also think people saying that the legacy system is "unfair" need to realize that ultimately TitanForge is for-profit and them offering you what essentially is a partial refund (maybe more when they actually recreate skins) loses them millions. I see people wanting a full refund, aka being able to use legacy gems on everything in Smite 2, and that is absurd. Not a singular company that wants to actually be a company would do that. 💀

Losing the skins that I’ve gotten over all the years and spent money on, is really sad. But honestly I’m still excited for smite 2. They better have a ton of game modes ready for the small selection of gods.

When i spoke to FineOkay on his stream he gave me his opinions on the matter and pretty much convinced me with her said the engine for smite 1 was from 2006, its not supported or taught how to work anymore. So finding new employees that can actually work it is damn near impossible, not to mention smite 1 is a HEAVILY modded version of UE3 that has been stretched out for years now and year. I suddenly dont care about my skins not being ported, this change needed to happen.

Tbh, it's good to play smite without skins. The game has too much characters, you have to memorize everyone's ults in order to dodge it. But with skins, it's getting even worse, because each character nowdays is having a bunch of skins that change it's look completely, including the abilities
