As much as I love my 1911s, I agree that the weight of a gun like that is hard to pack. I bought a 340 pd not long ago and I love it ! It's light weight, easy to pocket carry and still plenty of power. The only drawback is limited capacity. Thanks for another great video sir!

You don't need capacity with a 357 magnum. The 5 year study from Boston on the percentage of gun deaths by caliber in crimes, showed that the 357 had the highest percentage of fatality with 72%. That was with one single round, fired into the victim. The only other caliber that had a higher percentage was the 44 magnum, but they only recorded 3 instances of that caliber being used in 2 years(out of 511 recorded shootings), so the sample size was deemed too small to be truly accurate for testing.

@@tommymccomic7715 That study was about one shot stops not fatalities (though some of them were fatalities). That could have something to do with 357 being so much louder than other handguns. When it comes to power a 357 out of a 2 inch barrel is no more powerful than 9mm. You don't really see the benefits of 357 until you get to a 4 inch barrel. A snub nose 357 is basically a 9mm with a heavy trigger, more recoil, less capacity, and loud enough to give you permanent hearing damage after a single shot.

A gal friend of mine got her carry permit but she only had a full size 9mm SW . Problem is she is around 90lbs and very very thin . She tried every method you could think of to carry that thing that didn't print like crazy or was at least comfortable with how she dresses but it was a no-go. Ended up with nice SW 432PD .32 snubby that was small enough to conceal but not too hard to shoot. Otherwise she'd never carry at all.

I’ve pocket carried the no-lock 340PD, loaded w/+P, for over 10 years. I use a Blue Force pocket holster b/c it’s the thinnest, lightest pocket holster on the market.

Great video, I have had a couple of 340PD's and I love these pistols, very lightweight, well made and they shoot great. I have shot full load 357's out of it and it is painful, but a good grip can help with the recoil. I like the CT laser grips Big Daddy has on his 340PD. I sold the first couple of 340PD's I had and yes I just bought another one with CT laser grips and this one I am keeping as my primary EDC. If your looking for a lightweight 357 mag this is a great choice. I carry mine in a Galco horsehide pocket holster here in Florida where I wear shorts the majority of the time.

I pocket carry in the DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster right front pocket... Smith 342 air light ti ..(titanium cylinder) .38sp .. centennial.... I put rubber crimson Trace laser grips on it the shorter version... But even with iron sights I can hit Good Hits on target at 50 ft... My carry load is federal HST 130 grain plus p humongous hollow points... Federal seats the huge hollow point deep in the case achieving plus p velocity and pressure without adding more powder.. it looks sort of like a WaD cutter even with the case mouth.. but it's a humongous hollow point that penetrates 13 in denim covered FBI gel and expands fully out of a tiny short barrel

Have you had any problems with Crimp Jumping of 357 rounds. I have with some 357 rounds in my 340. Crimp jump will jam your gun!

as i recall, at the end of the day there wasnt a whole lot of diff in weight twix an airlite and a model 36 or an sp 101. and then there is is the flame cutting on the frame from the cylinder and barrel gap. as i recall.

The 340 PD weighs less than 12oz. It's so light it feels like it's apt to float up out of your hand like a balloon. An all steel Model 36 I belive weighs almost twice as much at 21oz while the SP 101 can weigh as much as 30oz depending on the specific model.

Flame cutting is not an issue on the 340pd. Cylinder wear is an issue on the titanium cylinders.

Yep all day everyday! 340pd in a Del fatti pocket holster or a Mika pocket holster..no excuse to be unarmed. 10yrs or so everyday work or play.. I've had a bunch of tries at the perfect pocket carry over the years before buying Airlites but none compare to this! got a couple of em...two is one and such.

I carry the 642 in a pocket frequently. Main carry is a Glock 26 IWB. Both have one in the chamber. Don't carry a gun if you are not willing to have one in the chamber.

Good gun. Only for up close and personal, in my opinion. At 15 feet I have no idea where the round actually goes. The trigger pull is so heavy that it snaps the gun off to the side. How some ever, nobody is going to mess with you until they're within 5 feet, and already have the drop on you. you can shoot this thing from inside your coat pocket without ever brandishing it, its powerful and will change the momentum of the situation. This makes it a very intelligent , though admittedly thuggish and unlovely, rough and ready choice. The fact that you hardly know your carrying it seals the deal. Would you carrry a 20oz wallet?

1300 FPS yer dreaming man (maybe a hair under 1100), not out of a sub 2” barrel. 340PD is slightly more energetic than a compact 9mm when the 340 is loaded with 357 Mag. Not ripping it, I have a 340PD. That chick is defo a badass shooting a 11.7 oz 357 …

Definitely a cool gun but not worth the price or the pain IMO. 357 out of a 2 inch barrel is essentially a 9mm +P with way more recoil and a gun that is harder to shoot accurately. At that point just carry 38 special, and at that point spend half as much and get a 442.

This is not a comfortable gun to shoot at all even if you only shoot it two or three times. The recoil and sting are nearly unbearable with this pistol which only weighs 12 ounces. It is a small, light, and cute pistol until you shoot it. Most people trade or sell it off for a steel or stainless steel version that has a weight of 24 ounces which makes it way more bearable to shoot like the Smith model 640 & the Taurus model 856 and 605. Light weight and airweight revolvers are not recommended for new shootersInmy Taurus 357 magnum model 605 I only shoot 38 special plus P, If I want to shoot 357 magnum I do it out of my Smith models 65 & 686

I have three of these revolvers, carry one everyday for SELF DEFENSE! Comfortable, lightweight to carry but not comfortable shooting .357 self defense rounds. It really wasn't designed to be fun or cute and I agree it's not for most new shooters. Thanks
