I love the looks of this pistol. I’ve been admiring the concept piece since they initially released it unported. It looks like the ported barrel and improved sights increased the price a bit, but you’re still talking a reasonably accurate 45ACP for $700. I’ll have to find one to test fire. My smaller hands may not be able to hang on to this snap dragon.

indeed, clearly that was the thinking behind the colt New Agent, as it doesnt even have proper sights, just a "gutter" groove to use as a reference point. generally speaking, small guns like these are meant purely for concealed carry use, and even then often as a backup gun, they arent meant to be service pistols or competition race guns. with these guns you are trading ranged accuracy, round capacity, controllability, and atleast in some cases power, for concealability and general ease of transport.

Besides the RIA 3.10 and the Para Ordnance Warthog, there's a red headed step child that many have forgotten about. The ATI FX45 LW Fatboy. It has a 12 round double stack magazine which means a longer grip, giving a better purchase on the handgun. 3.2" barrel and it's lightweight aluminum frame only weighs 28 oz. with a empty magazine. Made in the Philippines as well, but no longer imported into the U.S. I purchased one back in 2013 and she's a shooter and a keeper. A little bit snappy, but to be expected. I've shot every conceivable type of ammo out of it to include steel and aluminum cased, low velocity , subsonic and hollow points. To date , I have well over 3000 rounds through it without one single hiccup, of any kind.

I purchased an ATI Fatboy about 3 or 4 years ago. 12-round double stack 1911 w/3-inch barrel in .45 ACP. And it looks very familiar with that Rock Island Armory. There are some differences, besides the 12 vs. 10 rounds. Mine has very narrow front and rear slide serrations, my slide isn't ported, but I'm betting my pistol was the model for yours. Mine does have a ambi-thumb safety. The only thing I don't like is that the cases eject straight back into the shooter.
@ogearbox61322 жыл бұрын
My first 1911 was a gobmint issue in the Marines. Really liked that pistol. Then I picked up a used Warthog two years ago. I had heard about the feeding issues too. I tried differing loads and nothing helped usually getting a jammed round after the second shot. So on a lark I put a little wheel bearing grease in the throat where the round comes up from the mag into the barrel. Wow what a difference it made. My first 10 rounds went off without a hitch. All in the bulls eye. The next 10 we’re all rapid fire and no feed issues. I am of average size and the double stack is great and the recoil is extremely manageable. I love my Warthog!

Now carrying the 3.10 is like having nothing there at all. Really nice carry piece if you can tolerate the weight. I did end up putting those Pierce pinky extensions on the bottom of each magazine. Yeah I was surprised to learn not too long ago that there's quite a tradition of gunmaking in the Philippines. There are even a lot of garage workshops where people basically duplicate, by hand with a file, all the parts of a reference factory gun and make their own firearms that way. And unlike a lot of the other examples you'll see where people copied guns by hand, like the Chinese Lugers or Khyber pass rifles, the Philippine guns looked factory made and operated reliably and safely.

Para also made the “Carry 45” with a double stack magazine, a flat hammer (sat flush with the back of the slide) and their “LDA” trigger system. I was fortunate enough to to find a used stainless version of that pistol. It is undoubtedly one of my favorite 1911s. Hard to beat a full size frame, with a commander length slide, that is double stack, and the LDA (light double action) trigger is just simply amazing in “feel” I know the 1911 was meant to be single action, and carried “cocked & locked” However I love to carry this particular pistol. I think Para really hit a home run with this particular model. I would love to find a used warthog one day as well. Especially one that has the “LDA” trigger. I have more expensive name brand 1911s, but for some reason I always find myself taking the “Carry 45” with me.
@gregrising3668 Жыл бұрын
Carry 45 was a single stack Para did make double stacks with the LDA . The LDA was a good trigger for a double action, but falls far short of a traditional single action. If I could I would modify my carry 9 to a single action. That said I love my p12-45.

So I'm 2 minutes in and I have to say this. I appreciate that you never sweep the barrel in the direction of the camera guy even though you know its empty. Proper safety in place. This executes two major gun safety rules. 1- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded. 2- Mind your muzzle. And even a third that some people don't know or say, but my father taught me at a very early age; never point a firearm at something you do not intend to destroy or k*!!. Gonna finish watching now. He made it the subject of one of his Cooper’s Corner columns in Guns & Ammo. His general take on it was that at under 4.25 inches in barrel length the 1911 design became inherently and intrinsically flawed because there wasn’t enough room for the slide to retract all the way in order for reliable extraction. This was before the advent of double captured springs.

I used to carry a CZ75 and feeding it with hollowpoints or wad cutters caused malfunctions. I stuck to old school round nose and no more malfunctions.

Short spring guns are hard to run. But that's a lot of power in a small package. And the first shot is garontee

Great video and thanks! I dislike how their solution to the melted front sight was to do away with the fiber optics. How about do away with the stupid ported barrel, instead???? Looks really neat, but the ported barrel is a deal killer for me. Also, if they lost the ported barrel, production cost would likely drop a bit.

1911’s tend to take at least 200-300 rounds to break in from what I’ve been taught

I'd have to shoot this one for myself before purchasing one being they never mentioned if it wants to flip out of your hand or excessive recoil and didn't see any double taps which might have answered those questions.Looking forward to watching again after yas push a couple of hundred rounds through.

Look like it had way too much rekoil for me probably because of the 3in barrel I guess

.45 acp is at most a medium recoil in a blow back action pistol and can be easily shot all day long one handed comfortably. NOTHING like the Hollywood BULLSHITE you see in the movies. Now get a big bore magnum revolver like a .454 Casull .458 mag or .500S&W and then you'll know what hand hammering RECOIL REALLY IS👌👍👊😏😁😁😎✌💯💯💯

I always put lithium grease on any parts that move or have any kind of friction you can sprinkle a little bit of graphite into the lithium grease if you want to or even better effect great little piece thanks for the video

Great looking 10 Rounds but it jams. What good is it?

Still waiting for someone to run some round through one of these over a chronograph. While I love my Mk4 Series 80 Officers ACP with it's 3.5" barrel, I do see a 10-15% drop in velocity compared to a 5" barrel when testing various hand loads. Not saying it won't work as an EDC, but kind of wondering what happens with this thing and the even shorter and ported setup.
@outerspaceman75343 жыл бұрын
It would still do a great job in a self defense situation against a criminal since most encounters happen at very short range.
@seantu14963 жыл бұрын
@@outerspaceman7534 Have no doubt it will solve the problem that may come up, more curious as someone who loads rounds for the various guns I have, to see how much it looses with that ultra short and ported barrel, which then leads me down that path of figuring out what the perfect load for the thing would be. FWIW, as a starting point, I would probably go with 3.8grn of 700-X behind a 230 FMJ just to see what happens. My "standard" target load for a 3.5" barrel Officers ACP is 3.9grn of 700-X with a 210 semi wadcutter.
