Another great hint, keep them coming Sarah! This is such a lost art for young people, it’s great to see you carry one this precious heirloom sewing.

Cannot get over this one! Thank you so much for this tip. I use to get so excited getting ready and smocking a bishop and then just leave it. . . . . .until I got the nerve to tackle doing the neck; I would be so anxious (and many time frustrated) putting the bias binding on, keeping the pleats lined up, stitching, taking it out, stitching, taking part of it out, stitching until finished or ruined. This method has made bishops exciting again. THANK YOU and all that you do.

Hi Sarah, Love this fabric you are using. My question is how do you know how big to cut the lining I realize you don't pleat the lining so would I just have the lining the same size as the main fabric which is pleated? Thank you,.

So so helpful Sarah ...thanks so much. I've only ever done yoke smocking so super excited to give a bishop a go. I was incredibly lucky to buy a pile of Australian smocking magazines on Marketplace and there's a bishop neckline guide in one of them. Yvonne in Australia ❤

For anyone who is curious about ordering Sarah's kits, thread, floch embroidery, it comes to you at mock speed and I live in Calif, everything is top quality and packaged beautifully, I highly recommend all her items! FREEZER PAPER; Wow, it is game changer for anyone who sew anything, so many uses. I do much applique quilting and could not do it without freezer. Order online and save so much, I buy a huge roll. I miss not getting to see Daisy today, she is napping am sure.

Yes, this was a huge help to me as well! Since the pre-construction is done before smocking, would this eliminate the need to smock around the band (top row)?
@sarahclassicsewing3 жыл бұрын
Yes! No need to backsmock around that top row since the freezer paper held the pleats in place 👌🪡

How do you determine the finished garment neck size?
@sarahclassicsewing2 ай бұрын
it should be in your pattern, i haven’t seen those measurements in a while so i don’t have them off the top of my head. usually around 12-14 inches. or you could take a string/ribbon and hang it around the neckline (like a necklace) and then measure that length.

Hi Sarah... I would like to know if you could help me with this. I dont know how to measure how much fabric i need to create an Smoked piece. Do i need twice the amount that i would use for a normal non smoked piece?
@sarahclassicsewing3 жыл бұрын
Heyy there, search for pleating ratios and there should be a bunch of my videos that pop up on youtube. It's a great question, little bit of a rabbit hole. I also have a pdf download (search my website for pleating cheatsheet) that has a ton of information for various fabrics. sarahclassicsewing.com thanks!

When you're attaching the bias band, do you have your neckline in a circle still, and curve the band, or straighten the neckline and stitch the band on straight? Did that make any sense?🤦🏼♀️
@sarahclassicsewing4 жыл бұрын
yes, makes total sense! so I've done a bunch of different ways. you can iron a curve into your bias band to help it around, or you can keep the bias band straight and kinda curve it as you sew (which is generally what I do). you don't want to tug too much on it. hope that helps!

@@sarahclassicsewing Hi I am not sure how to finish the bias band once you have stitched it onto the neck. Could you please elaborate? I know we fold it in half and stitch onto the neck but don't know what to do next. thanks.
@sarahclassicsewing3 жыл бұрын
@@traceyanderson9090 yeah, fold it over to the wrong side of the garment (folding those ends under too) and hand stitch it down. Then the bias band is finished... Not sure I'm understanding your question, does that answer it?

if you do not have the neck guide when arranging and tying off the pleats, can you just work from the neck measurement?
@sarahclassicsewing4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do the math backwards, that works too. Be careful, that circumference can get too small if you're not watching and then the dress could be unwearable. Too big of a circumference is fairly forgivable though
