I made this on the stove in a brasier, but loved the recipe. Made some adjustments for our personal tastes. This is an awesome base recipe. Wish I had a smoker. Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks for sharing and glad it worked out well on the stove! You don’t need a smoker if you have an outdoor grill. Use wood chips or pellets to add that smoke flavor.

Years ago in the Royal navy this was called 'Pot mess', however I've never heard of 'Navy beans', WTF are they?

It’s a white bean also called a pea bean. It has a mild creamy flavor.
