You can use a old hot water thank for the inside peace . It’s thicker metal and it will last longer . Most are 14 inches and bigger. This is one hell of an idea . It’s not bad till you get two or three negbors burning in cans with no holes in plain drums . All it does is smolder for hours I’ve seen times they still would be smoking the next day . Besides if your not heating with it you want it to burn as hot and as fast as you can . This way it burn’s completely then the fire dont last long . Keeping every thing safe insted of tending to the fire you can go on and do something way more important. The best thing is not smoldering for days stinking up the neighborhood ! Stay safe and thanks for the video maybe we can get every one that burns doing this !

@impetus444 - $350 really, seriously where? Home Depot? Lowes? Hell, I'll make these even snazzier and charge you $200, just kidding. It just seems like a lot of money for a couple of 55 gal barrels that will rust out in a couple of seasons.

I bet you had the best "grinder boogers" after all that cutting. Btw, take this from a guy who has been in and around welding and steel fab for most of his life. Flannel and sweaters do not mix with sparks and high speed rotating power tools. When picking clothing for cutting & welding, imagine whether sparks will bounce off your clothing or get caught in the fabric. I have known welders to get their FR (flame retardant) shirts starched 3 times heavier than normal to improve deflection.

I'd recommend a chain connected to strap while cutting away the 5 inches out of the smaller diameter barrel, my cut wheel found traction and cut the strap where you precut the middle.

Was wondering if you burn plastic, will it still produce smoke? I have a recycling plastic granulator and screen mesh is use to filter dirt from plastic melt and overtime, this screen gets clogged up and the only solution is to burn the screen with plastic melt in it..

Yeah, they’re both 55 gallon
@Silverhand572 жыл бұрын
Nice work my friend! the only thing you should consider is to redo the bottom grate without all the holes. It is what gives the flame its swirl which helps a clean burn. By perforating the bottom grate so much it isn't getting the full swirl to the air flow and that will cause an inefficient burn. It is more than efficient enough for a burn barrel though :)

It might work a little better with less primary air. Too much primary air and the chimney effect carries the unburnt gas up and out before the heat can fully break it down… The fire pits I build need almost no primary air to burn clean. But a tall chamber like this would need some…
@willberness66972 жыл бұрын
Once the fires stoked up, there’s virtually no smoke. When I’m getting the fire started initially there’s a bit of smoke.
@Dilborg2 жыл бұрын
@@willberness6697 The tabs at the top maybe need to be inclined inward slightly more to help with that. One way to control the primary air with these is to use paver sized bricks around the base as a "starter choke". Great video! Was nice to see someone else struggle with the legs.

how long does this build last? also, please make a video when burning plastic, etc.
@willberness66972 жыл бұрын
I was working on it at night after being at my job. I spent a few hours on it every night. I’d say it took me 2 days of work. if I was working on it all day. If you have a better cutting tool (mine isn’t very good) you could probably do it a lot faster.
@rronmar2 жыл бұрын
Thin burn barrels don’t last long, the heat cooks the carbon out of the steel and they rust away pretty quickly. To burn plastic without your neighbors turning you in(big fine for illegal burn where I live), you need to get them much hotter than this thing will get. you basically need a waste oil burner(stainless steel burn chamber and pre-heated forced air…

One month ago, a sorry excuse for a person commented about losers telling you to wear safety glasses. I can't get my head around that kind of stupidity. Wearing safety glasses while cutting metal is absolutely the correct thing to do. Think how sorry you'd be if you lost an eye just because you didn't want to take the time to put on glasses. So, don't listed to Jason matthew and we won't have to call you Dead Eye.
