I demonstrate jazz a lot in my videos . When it comes to exercises, I don't do specific exercises for particular genres except for belting. I much prefer to take basic exercises and adjust them for style, such as vowel color and texture, and larynx position, which I find better teaches singers how to make different vocal choices. I show how to do this in my audio exercise training program. www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/order-victorias-victorious-vocal-exercise-program/

Hi Victoria that lady for your videos I am enjoying them your so informative and knowledgeable I went to a speech pathologist for MTD and she showed me the anatomy of the voice and said there were two muscles that pull forward for the chest voice and when you go into head the control is taken over by two muscles that pull up and back and the break is the catch and release of these two groups

As a teen, I developed a large, obvious bridge in my voice (but didn't call it that) that I thought I'd always have. I resorted to thinking I would always be an Alto (and learned harmonizing). In my 20s, I became a folk song teacher of little ones. I always sang in my lighter register with them since that is where children sing. Now in my 50s, I'm discovering how much I have to learn! Your videos are excellent! As I learn from you, I pass on what I learn from you to the under-10 children who come to me for voice lessons. Thank you so much!

@@Victoria-Victorious My only question would be, since belting in pop is mostly chest/chest-mix , is there a way to keep the chest mix for a higher register instead of keeping mixing up to head mix? Those glides are fun and natural for me to do, but I find myself unable to apply them to powerful belts :)
@Victoria-Victorious
@Victoria-Victorious 3 жыл бұрын
I discuss and demonstrate chest mix and thinning out the chest as you get higher in videos 2 and 3 in that playlist. To have a healthy belt, I teach a healthy and robust chest mix, usually starting from speech, plus a bright and "edgy" vowel.

I just started (trying) to sing and your trouble with the bridge at A4/B4 is like a dream to me. I think I have even for a guy a low voice, D2 is like barely any effort for me, but past B3-C4 I go from a high belt to a scream most of the times. So usually after D4 I better be doing head voice notes, because the chest either doesn't go higher or even if it does (usually after I sing for like 5 10 minutes), it sounds like I am screaming for my life. I just started watching your videos and you are so methodical, I enjoy listening to your even if I don't try out your tips (which I really should be doing).

Hey Victoria, My chest voice range seems to be E2 to D3, E3 is the passagio, which i believe is really short (unless i belt which is c4, but sometimes i dont want to belt) how to i go about increasing my chest range so i dont always have to always depend on my head voice?
@Victoria-Victorious
@Victoria-Victorious 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Astrid, Guess what? What you describe is exactly right as far as the "natural passaggio" for just about every voice type if it is not belted! That Eb-F4 is either the first passaggio or second, depending on the voice. When we belt, we are extending the chest blend higher than where it would want to shift if we were not belting. So the answer to your question is to blend both head and chest, also known as either a chest mix or head mix. You can review my blend suggestions in this Vocal "Break" video. I will post a video on mix hopefully next week. I have a lot of requests for it.

Are you supposed to be able to do the blend at first? Or does it take a long time to reach that blend? I'm asking because I used to sing a lot in passagio effortlessly, but I stopped for two years, and I'm just not achieving the blend, the voice just cracks down. Even when I achieve the blend "notes", it just feels so unstable. And so I'm wondering if I've just sit on ice for too long and need to retrain, or if it's actually permanent damage of unhealthy technique and alcohol... Hope I'm not the only one with this problem
@Victoria-Victorious
@Victoria-Victorious 10 ай бұрын
It's impossible to tell without seeing and hearing you. If you have any doubt, you should consider seeing an ENT doctor, preferably a laryngologist. Also, it is very common to need to retrain after a long hiatus, especially if the voice has changed with age. Nothing wrong with that! If you are not able to blend, see my PLAYLIST on Mixed Voice: kzbin.info/aero/PLaWjWxiTysDCCsBgnhWjfRRAWIPflxZp1
