I'm always amazed at how much roughout changes with use. By the time the boot is well-worn, the difference between the smooth upper and the roughout lower is not very big at all. But to get that even look, you have to use the heck out of your boots, which is what you should be doing anyway.

Is there a difference in how easily socks slide into these differences in leather? I'd imagine the smoothout would have the rough hairy strands on the inside making it harder to put the boots on.

With the smooth leather, it's not that hard putting the boots on. Either leather, I find it's relatively fine sliding my feet in.

What style is the boot in the middle? The toe box looks bigger.

My guess is Thurman 55 last which has a wider toe box - not specific to a model of boot

@John-Id3hd - I believe @kristinesiler5008 is right that it's Nick's proprietary ThurmanNW last, which has an enormously generous toe box. It's based on the Munson last, and there's some cool historical data online if you're curious. In a nutshell, a MD studied soldiers' feet during WWI (I could be wrong and maybe it was WWII) and discovered toe boxes needed to essentially mirror the natural shape of the foot in order to accommodate more variances and thereby better fitment across the population. I own a pair of Nick's in the ThurmanNW toe shape and, while I like it, would caution against it unless you 100% NEED it. Nick's #3 and #4 toes have PLENTY of room as-is, and so I've stuck with those. The ThurmanNW can be trickier to size. In either case, the boot in the middle is their new BuilderPro HD (awesome boot!)

Do you hate the Nick's Boots company? I see you post the lead times on almost every video of theirs, especially their short videos. Or do you like them? I can't tell dude lol!!!
