I am delighted to find a meal that incorporates oatmeal without, hopefully, being the regular, mushy oatmeal cereal that I've thoroughly despised since childhood. I'm praying that this smoothie will be suitable for me. The cholesterol-lowering aspect would be a Godsend to me as well, as my doctor is planning to add an additional cholesterol lowering drug to my already copious drug regimen. I live with HBP, high cholesterol, diabetes and stage 4 chronic kidney disease. Juggling the needs of all of these maladies is daunting. At least I made it to age 75.

Of course, oats will initially raise your blood sugar. It's a carb after all. If you don't have diabetes, your blood sugar will come down soon after. If you have diabetes, what you want to do is reverse your insulin resistance and you can eat all the healthy carbs you want. I did it. You can too

@drjoetvMD5 ай бұрын
Yes, steel-cut oats is preferred to rolled oats when cooking oats but for this smoothie, I don't think steel-cut oats will work as rolled oats are previously steamed and pressed flat (meaning rolled oats are partially cooked) making rolled oats a better fit for this very smoothie

Dr Joe, thank you. Just made this drink. Surely the 1/4 cup of milk can't be a correct measurement. In the video the amount you poured in is way more than 1/4 cup. The consistency of my smoothie was more like a sorbet. I had to add 3/4 cup more of milk and even then it was still very thick. Hoping you can reply with confirmation. I would really like to make this on a daily basis but quarter of a cup of milk just can't be right. Look forward to hearing from you. 🙏
@drjoetvMD7 ай бұрын
Add more milk to make the smoothie to the consistency you consider okay for you. So long as you are not using dairy milk or coconut milk, we're good. You can even dilute the oat milk or any other non-dairy milk apart from coconut milk with water if you think you may be using too much milk i.e mix the milk with water or use the non-dairy milk all the way. No fixed rule about the amount of milk to use. Add to get it to the right consistency you like

@drjoetvMD4 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to give you a timeline as to how soon your cholesterol will drop and by how much. It is a slow process. Even statins take time to lower your cholesterol. Also everyone is different, so is our cholesterol level and how we metabolize it. You just do what you need to do and see how it goes. In any case, you are still nourishing your body with good food using the recipe. Always a good idea to take a broader look at dietary interventions like this, rather than a tunnel vision approach

Thank you for sharing this Dr. Will try this. Can I use regular milk? Heard that it is good to soak oats with milk or water or even heat in pan slightly when using 'raw' oats in a smoothie?
@drjoetvMD Жыл бұрын
Dairy milk raises your cholesterol because it is full of saturated fat. Use plant-based milk like Oat milk

Hi De. Joe. Thanks for another great video! Quick question- is this safe for prediabetics to drink this daily?

I'd like to think so. I have diabetics who use it. If in doubt, test your blood sugar afterwards

Hi Dr. Joe, Many thanks for the information in this video. My question is about how you successfully reversed your insulin resistance. Do you have a video on that? If yes kindly share the link. If not, would you consider doing a video to let us know how you did it? Many thanks again for all the very helpful information you always put out for us. God bless.

Good day Dr Joe. THANKS for this recipe, WILL try it ASAP. A couple of questions: can I use whole flaxseeds instead of ground?? Will almond milk be ok instead of oatmilk?? Thank you very much. I DO appreciate all you do! Greetings from South Texas!🙏💙
@drjoetvMD4 жыл бұрын
Blanca, yes, you can use almond milk in place of oat milk. You can also use whole flaxseeds but I'll prefer you blend them into a powder first before adding them into the smoothie content

Hi, Dr. Joe. Do we use one minute oats, or rolled oats? Also how often should we drink this? I enjoy your videos. Thank you.

Rolled oats are better for this, Sharon. 3 - 4 times a week should suffice. Please drink plenty of water to go with it too

Can you make a film and explain the difference between cholesterol and high blood pressure . I feel they are similar to each other into medicine . Thanks for sharing .
@drjoetvMD2 жыл бұрын
No, they are not similar. Cholesterol is a risk factor for high blood pressure and if you have high blood pressure with high cholesterol together, that increases your risk of a heart attack and stroke

Looks very yummy. Doctor Joe, can I boil my oats a little? What can I replace strawberries with? Strawberries, blueberries (that category of fruits is extremely costly here and hard to find) with? Is oat milk a must or can I use water or soy milk?
@drjoetvMD4 жыл бұрын
Of course you can use soymilk. I don't know fruits available there where you are, so can't advise. You can use apples and kiwis if available. No, you cannot use boiled oats in smoothies. You can have boiled oats separately as a meal but not in smoothies. It will be messy
@lilianasaba98464 жыл бұрын
@@drjoetvMD thanks. Apples are available and affordable. Will use this. Have noted you response on boiled oats. Let me build courage to face a smoothie with raw oats. Pack doesn't show if it's rolled or otherwise. Thanks.
@drjoetvMD4 жыл бұрын
@@lilianasaba9846 They are probably rolled. Most commercially available oats are rolled. Few stores sell steel-cut oats (the best oats to eat) but not appropriate for a smoothie anyway
