Classic Mini A+ Series Engine Total Rebuild Episode 23 - First Start Up Video Of The Engine
It's finally time to start up the engine. I had forgotten to send my carburettor to Paul so when it came to starting the engine, Paul had to use one of his old carbs. The engine fired up but the carb leaked fuel. So it was quickly turned off. So this video is of the second attempt with a different carb attached. The carb isnt setup for this engine and is also without an air filter so this was just a quick test run to check everything worked and later on Paul was able to sort out the carb and ran in the camshaft. The engine is now ready to be dropped of to me :-)

Lee, Paul, Is that a vespa scooter sound you used or have you recorded my Trabant engine sound lol. Sounds great even with a basic exhaust box you must be well chuffed and i‘m sure the performance will be as good. The 1310cc Paul built for me in my gulf track mini has 113 HP and 112.6 ft/Lbs of torque at the wheels which even surprised Paul at the rolling road. Cheers Dave

Haha...yeah, couldn't resist the slight edit here and there. That's always the risk when people send me footage to edit :-) Yes, well chuffed...the engine build was just beyond my skill set and I've learnt so much along the way. With Paul videoing everything it's allowed me to learn almost every step that's involved. I'll probably never attempt my own build but it's good to now have a much better understanding of whats involved and I guess it gives me a better appreciation of the work an engine builder does. Eventually the engine will go on the rollers so it will be interesting to see what the figures are. As you'll know, the main thing for me was just having a properly built engine but the way it runs and sounds...it does have that feel that it may surprise me a little. I'll make sure to video the rolling road too.
