If you use a spinning reel while trolling, do you get more line twist? Thanks for your time👍👍

We're going to start with hover fishing and maybe hover with a sliding bobber as well. See how that goes. The kids do better with a rod in their hands. 😊 Will probably take a 360 rig as an option though.

No luck today. Got a bit of late of a start (fishing by 8:00 or so), tried hovering with eggs and shrimp for a few hours, no dice (had some bait nibbled, but I don't think it was Chinook). Pulled 360 and kite with multiple rigs, no dice. Even ran a long near-surface spinner since we were seeing fish (Chinook) surfacing and occasionally jumping. No go. But here's the thing, at least while we were on the water, we didn't see a single boat land or so much as fight a fish, including the guide boats. And there were at least 60 boats when we started, and less than 10 when we quit fishing around 2:00pm. The day was beautiful though, people were courteous, and we had a good time regardless. We'll give it another go soon.

Reminder: To use two poles in Idaho you need to purchase the Two Pole Permit. Also, there is a 5/8" max hook gap when salmon fishing, so stick to 2/0 hooks or smaller, and put those 3/0 and 4/0 hooks you use in WA somewhere you won't accidentally use them. Also, in Idaho it's who hooks the fish that counts it on their catch card, vs. who lands it like WA does.

@@jameshasenoehrl5291 Page 41 of the Idaho Fishing Seasons & Rules 2022-2024 book (idfg.idaho.gov) under "Methods of Take". HOWEVER: And this is really interesting... This rule has always come from Idaho administrative rules 13.01.11.405.01, which historically has read: "Hooks. It is unlawful to use any hook larger than five-eighths (5/8) inch, measured from the point of the hook to the shank." (it goes on about barbless etc...) Now if you find the most current administrative rules, it appears to have undergone a drastic re-edit for the 7/1/24 revision. It now reads: " Hooks. Anadromous game fish may be taken only with barbless hooks in the Salmon, Clearwater, and Snake River drainages downstream of Hells Canyon Dam." That's it, nothing else. So it appears that the administrative code has been changed, but the rule-book hasn't been changed. Or it may be that the 5/8" rule was moved elsewhere in the administrative code. Also of note, 405.02 addressed snagging, and in the latest does not. Again, moved perhaps? This will required further investigation and perhaps a call to IDFG to clarify.

@@jameshasenoehrl5291 I posted a lengthy reply, buy KZbin seems to have censored it. :( Short answer: Page 41 of the reg book. Long answer: state administrative rules may have removed the restriction as of July 1st of this year. Looking into it.

@alexdiaz1598 How are KZbin and social media ruining your little fishery? I live in Oregon, and I could literally throw a rock in one direction, and it would land in Idaho, throw it in the other direction, and it would land in Washington; therefore, I'm licensed to fish in all three states.
