today my daughter and i rescued a smooth earth snake from the pool drain! it was really little (like the dekay's!) and had slightly iridescent brownish-gray scales + a white belly. It was very friendly--it let both of us hold it without trying to get away. it didn't seem hurt, but it was trying to shed, so we put it by some small rocks and it immediately started to rub against everything to get the shed off. then it slithered away. :) this is the first time we have found a snake since watching your videos and it was my first time feeling confident handling a snake found in the wild. it was such a cool moment to experience with my daughter and I thank you for giving me the knowledge to handle the situation!

Decays brown snakes are actually native to my state, and I saw one of them this past September at my job running after-school care at a preschool! We were walking over to the field for outdoor play and while we were crossing the road a Decay's tried to cross the road with us! I made sure the kids gave him some space so he wouldn't get stepped on, and once we were across the road I took plenty of pictures of the little guy - we talked about snakes with the kids at snack, and when I looked up local species to see what kind of snake we saw I couldn't believe it was the same as these little guys!

I do love this video! Cannot count how many times I watched this anymore! Before Emily feed them, the first one was telling to the other 2 buddies that she’s there, it looks really telling them like “🗣hey, hey, wake up! Here she is!” That’s so adorable and interesting, his head was moving like a human to tell about the happy news. Then, what does Emily pull out 😂😂 Oh, those crickets are likely escaping out of the cord holes, there is a gap under the lid they can get into then get out of. My brain whenever i see a dekay's brown snake: BABY! BABY MAN! LITTLE BABY LITTLE BABY MAN

I used to spend all day catching the tiny common brown snakes in my backyard. These look exactly like those and those didn't grow longer than 23". Rarely I'll lift a rock and find a baby, but I haven't been looking for them. They stay this cute, stay under two feet long, and most of the wild ones I was catching turned remarkably tame once they calmed down. There's always a few that won't want to calm down, but usually they turned very sweet quickly. If you're willing to keep a snake this small they're amazing and all of my experience comes from freshly caught wild snakes, so as a species they generally have an amazing temperament.

Dekays have grown into my favorite type of snake I think. They’re all I find on my little 1/8 acre property in the suburbs and I love the work they do in my garden 🐍 always just a cute surprise when I come across one ✨

I just rescued one that was attacked. I never knew about these until I looked them up. They are amazing. They have grown to be mine as well. How I've only seen one in 43 years is beyond me.

Instantly adorable! Man, I'm so lucky I got to see a Dekay's in the wild before you got them, they just blend in so well! Redbellies are more common and easier to spot with their little brown backs, and are probably the second-smallest in the Central Northeast (either them or the little green snakes). It was a real treat to see something besides garters and redbellies just that one time! It was cute how he thought he was blending in with the mulch path!
