I was just looking at buying one of these myself for parasitic draw testing. I'm glad you just did a review on it.

Fluke meters are the top of the line for electricians I know snap on isn't junk but electricians rely on fluke meters every day to save their life and I have personally used them for years. I know a lot of mechanics feel like if you don't have snap on everything then you're nobody but check out fluke the price point is much better.
@daddyjay3195 жыл бұрын
I happen to agree with you on the Fluke 88 . Only problem is when you measure miliamps in series that fuse is something like $8 dollars and fluke 88 has two fuses. .

Pretty Nice, but I'm really digging that scan tool style looking one you have. That one Looks pretty sweet! do you know if it can be used on Hybrids?
@RustbeltMechanic6 жыл бұрын
Justin Dow thanks! And it will read the voltage but will not do isolation tests like with the fluke 1587
@automedic97816 жыл бұрын
Rustbelt Mechanic Could you explain what an isolation test is, and when/why one would need to do them? I’ve been looking at the Fluke 1587 for a few weeks
@RustbeltMechanic6 жыл бұрын
TheMillennialMechanic an isolation test is for hybrid system diagnostics. In a simple way it checks for continuity between the high voltage and low voltage systems of a hybrid by sending a low amperage high voltage pulse through the system to be sure that the two are “isolated” from each other

Will output to the Snap-On oscilloscope of the Modus Edge and other scanners?
@RustbeltMechanic5 жыл бұрын
Nope not this one
@cliftonsr5 жыл бұрын
All they would have to do is have a toggle switch to bypass the display and use with the scope on the scanner so there would be no interference readings to be a low amp clamp for scope.

can this type of clamp be used with a scope to see current wave form
@RustbeltMechanic6 жыл бұрын
This one is not really meant for scope use, and I didn’t really have the correct cables to try and use it like that with our Zeus.
@ThePracticalMechanic6 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe it has an output. The two plug ins are inputs for the voltage and resistance testing. I will have to look at the specs again but the response time may not be fast enough for scope use anyway.

How well would it work for 4-20 milliamp reference in your opinion
@RustbeltMechanic6 жыл бұрын
That is the very lowest of the tools functional spectrum in my opinion. May not be the best for being accurate that low

Thanks for the video, looking at getting one of those amp clamps. Couple questions though...the meter connected in series is set to mA and is reading 4.100, isn’t that just over 4ma and not 410mA? Also noticed when the inductive clamp is clamped over the wire it shows 410mV +- but it looks like it’s showing AC not DC despite measuring LED’s. Did it just default to ac for some reason? Thanks again for the videos, good stuff!
@RustbeltMechanic6 жыл бұрын
You caught that ☝️ so also see the coil of leads as well... that amplified it over that amount....that level of draw on those small amount of leds is at the bottom end of the spectrum for readings on the meter. And yes it just defaulted to that after I had pressed the ac/dc button on prior testing. 👍

Yes u are wrong, it does DC and has the DC symbol on the front as well (the straight line above the AC symbol means both AC and DC)

Which clamp meter would help me the most as a hobbyist : 1- Uni T UT210E mini pro, with these DC ranges: Volt (0.1mv - 600v) Amp (0.1mA - 100A) ➡️Good for parasitic draw test, but don't go for high ranges 2- kaiweets HT208D, with these DC ranges : Volt (600 mv - 1000 v) Amp (60A - 1000A) ➡️ No low reading for parasitic draw test, but has high ranges Can I choose type 1 to do most car diagnoses as a hobbyist , or I need both types? ☺️💛Thanks
@NNITRED7 ай бұрын
The HT208D can do real Inrush measurement but it bottoms out at .01A. If you get it under the habotest badge it's like $40. The other thing is size. She's a biggun.

Great informative video .. The Snap on amp clamp looks like the ESI 688 amp clamp ..as far as the specs sheet the ESI 688 is capable down to 1 miliamp... Would you happen to know if the Snap On amp clap can do the same ..
@jasonc.46835 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering the same thing my friend. Some evap systems when they are testing itself it's in the milliamp range but the scan tools dont have a pid for the them but it can force the system to close and start testing but u will never know if u have a leak or not. With an amp clamp that handy saves time breaking out the scope and setting up. I will ask my snap on rep on Tuesday if it can. If it does then I'm sold. Not hearing good reviews on that ESI 688.
