A single USB-C hub on my 16" MacBook Pro is able to output all these things, except for MagSafe (though there are third-party solutions). The charger is plugged into the hub rather than the MBP itself. All this including charging and only a single port on the right side of my MBP is occupied, leaving three available for other things. I don't think it's worth complaining about the switch to USB-C anymore. If you can afford an expensive MacBook Pro, you can afford a decent portable USB-C hub to pair with it.

@iliakorvigo73415 жыл бұрын
@@arthurscheffler1460 I wouldn't hold my breath for a µLED panel in 2020. I don't think MacBooks will be the first to get one. If we get one in an updated iPad Pro in the coming months, that would be a good indicator for the MacBook Pro updates to come. As for the 10th gen processors, it depends on whether you *need* a 16" model or a 13/14" model. The biggest difference in 10th gen is the iGPU. If you don't need a laptop with dedicated graphics, then you should wait for an updated 13/14" MBP for the massive iGPU improvements. If you want a dedicated GPU, then there is no reason to wait for an updated 16" MBP, unless you really want to get 1-2% improvement in CPU performance, WiFi 6 and a bit more battery life.

@Soo What Don't hope for a touch-screen or OLED display anytime soon. Touch-screen is pretty self-explanatory, they don't want it. Let's talk OLED, Samsung is currently the only company producing OLED displays for laptops, with their only available size being 15 inches. Then there's burn-in issues, which certainly can be minimised with software, but it's still a slight problem. Final point, the price would go up tremendously, with all current OLED laptops being incredibly close to the price of the base MacBook Pro 16".
@frykauf5 жыл бұрын
Many inside problems haven't changed though. Non removable SSD w/o backup connector (machine fails, data gone). And many logic board issues that Luis Rossmann talks a lot about. It's still true that the reliability of Apple laptops peaked in 2013/2014 and since then it's just worse and worse. In some ways (because of the non removable SSD and/or the backup connector, and ports) it's basically 2016 model with 2015 keyboard. And that's still not enough. Just get the highest spec'd 2014 model and wait some more for more reliable hardware in the future (hopefully) and get desktop hackintosh/mac mini with Razer core X external graphics card (although hackintosh-ing had become very reliable and pretty easy in the last few years).

It's never going to happen with Cook at the helm. He's just hungry for money and nothing more. He stated out at Apple as the store guy and he'll remain the store guy. I'm seriously doubtful that the claim that Jobs selected him as his predecessor are true, most likely the shareholders picked him so they could milk the market out of money until it fails. Ivey left due to frustration and no one talks about it. Apple of today is about increasing revenue with minimum effort. This you can see with the zero real innovation across the board. The iPhone has been the same since 6 really with a bit of glass thrown in here and there. The MacBook Pro line has been stagnant as has the iMac line. The mac pro is just a money grab.

I wouldn't hold your breath for an updated 16" so soon, or at least one with significant updates... The new i9 Processor's being released soon (Comet Lake) are still on the 14nm process, albeit a very refined 14nm +++++. Tiger Lake is the one everyone is excited about as it'll be 10nm but is nowhere near release, maybe even 2021. And although Intel is promising 5GHz with the i9, that is only for *single core boost... and considering even the 16" is thermally constrained... yeah, you might see 5ghz for a fraction of a second... expect the all core boost clocks to continue to hover around 3-3.5ghz. Still respectable, but nothing to write home about for a new processor release. The one benefit that may come from sticking Comet Lake into an updated Macbook Pro 16" is AX6 Wifi, although even that won't help unless you or your organization has upgraded it's wifi infrastructer to support it... And Graphics... well, AMD doesn't have anything new in the pipeline except for the RX 5600m. Problem is the current 5500m has a shader count of 1404, and a TDP wattage usage of 80-105w. The new RX 5600m has a 2308 shader count. Yep... almost 1000 more shaders, with a TDP that will probably exceed 130-150w. You can't stick that into the current Macbook Pro... unless you enjoy thermal throttle city. What Apple need's to do is shrink the motherboard somehow by 10-15%, and use that space to increase the heatsink even more., otherwise they are already at the upper limit of the thermal envelope for cooling i9. So for these reasons, I really can't see an updated 16" coming until Intel get's 10nm Tiger Lake out the door, which "might" be in late fall, but I wouldn't expect it until early 2021, maybe even CES 2021. Or... who knows... maybe Apple will stick the new AMD Ryzen 4800U 8 Core 4.2Ghz ** 15 watt ** into the Macbook Pro 16. That'd be nice.

The cooling solution is still insufficient. It still settles in the mid/high 90’s °C. They need more heatpipes. Here in SoCal, we easily run 5-10 °C more than your test environment, thus “constraining” performance more. If they dropped those numbers down to low to mid 80’s °C, then we approach a decent product. Your pro tip is spot on.

Intel has been promising that new chip for 4 years. I’ll believe it when I see it. (And when you complain about Apple laptop performance disappointments over the last 4 years you should really throw more than 50% of the shade at Intel).

they did. look at Linus Tech Tips more often. The core i9 came out like, a month ago
@alliejr5 жыл бұрын
Keagster06 The i9 is just a faster i7. It’s not the low power 7nm chip that Intel has been promising and Apple has been waiting for since 2015. I suggest you listen to Linus less. He’s an idiot.
@Dominus_Potatus5 жыл бұрын
@@alliejr i9 means more cores. In laptop platform, i9 = 8 cores, while i7 = 6 cores. And fun fact, base clock for i7 is higher than i9. Means if your system is not cooled properly, i7 will beat i9, which was MBP i9 had at launch

@iMac99915 жыл бұрын
Yeah really. Although he made beautiful designs, they hurt the product in terms of functionality. You could argue that his designs pushed technology to get smaller and thinner and more powerful but some things like batteries have met a physical limit (for the time being, anyway).

I wish that Apple put Wi-Fi 6 with the 10th Generation processor, and a 1080 p camcorder with a Face ID option. With that said, they did a great job with the Video Card, and giving an 8 GB option, up to 64 GB of Ram, and if your budget allows, up to 8 TB SSD. No other laptop or desktop has that much or even 4 TB SSD. That screen is awesome. Apple did answer a lot of complaints with the keyboard and by separating the escape and touch ID key from the touch bar. Oh, and they did upgrade to Bluetooth 5.0. The speakers are awesome for laptop speakers. I am pretty pleased with the majority of changes, although I wouldn't mind a USB A port on each side, HDMI, SD Card slot.

I'm just looking forward to the 14". I've been wanting a 14" ever since going from my garbage 14" Dell to a 13" Macbook 11 years ago- which I still use daily believe it or not. It seems this update, with the slightly body and different cooling system, leads me to believe we won't be getting a full refresh model cycle next year.. maybe the following year? Makes little sense to put in new changes like the screen, body size, cooling, etc if they're only going to use it for one year.

Question to the folks watching this that actually liked the Butterfly board's feel: did you guys find the new board surprisingly disappointing? I went in expecting something pretty similar to what Quinn described: a taller switch with a tactile bump. But when I tried the thing out at the store, it didn't feel like that it. It felt like mush through and through. Going back and forth between it and the 13" butterfly equipped Pro next to it made me depressingly sure that I preferred the butterfly. I say depressingly because I really do want Navi graphics.
