3nm SoC, USB-C a new 120mm camera, a new Watch feature that *isn't*, and a lot more nobody has talked about!
Looking for a powerful new browser? Try @SigmaOS for free! go.sigmaos.com/snazzylabs
Apple's September iPhone 15 event paled in comparison to WWDC, but that doesn't mean things were bad! A whole slew of new updates from last year made it to the standard iPhone 15, all iPhone models gained USB-C (FINALLY!) the new iPhone 15 Pro found titanium, and the 15 Pro Max acquired a prismatic zoom lens. Apple Watch got some updates, a new UWB chip made it into all new devices, and software features involving satellite roadside assistance and portrait mode are sure to make a splash. But we should probably talk about something Apple kinda just blew past. AAA gaming on the iPhone with Assassin's Creed Mirage, Resident Evil, and Death Stranding...

I think they are playing around with A17 Pro so they can offer A18 (regular models) and A18 Pro next year. It will feel less like trying to sell customers last years tech from a marketing perspective, while still having a clear differential from the souped-up Pro SoC they'll be shouting loudly and proudly about.

@@alyx6427and it might still be lacking the USB 3 connector, which is disgraceful. Even offering just USB 2.0, something my iMac G4 from 2003 came with as brand-spanking-new connectivity, on an upcoming SE model would be a disgrace, let alone on the mainstream model. The way I see it, their phones should mirror Macs and iPads, i.e. the regular, non-Pro models should have at the very least USB 3 speeds (heck, maybe not the fastest 3.1 Gen-whatever, but at least the slowest one comparable to FireWire-freaking-800 from decades ago), and the Pro models should have at least Thunderbolt 3. We’re already on the third iteration of Apple Silicon on the Mac, and all those M chips have it (and some even percolated to iPad Pro models, mind you), so why shouldn’t the iPhone Pro models get it, too?

I am happy to report that I am one of the 'rich people' who did not die thanks to my Apple Watch. That first part really had me tearing up. My watch told me to get checked out as I was tachycardic. Then it told me in a more urgent manner. I was some 140BPM at rest. I called the doc, gave them the news and they told me to hang up and call an ambulance. Straight to hospital, where I spent the next week. Without my watch, I dread to think what would have happened to me.

I think once the A17 comes to the Apple TV it could become a legitimate competitor to game consoles if they can get the developers to come like they did with the iPhone 15 pro. @@B.D.F. I mean we don’t currently have confirmation that the iPhone 15 pro has hdmi support over usb-c, it seems unlikely they wouldn’t have support as the iPads do but it’s not confirmed. However one downside is interface, the iPhone doesn’t have controller navigation while the Apple TV does. To be a significant competitor I think an always at home setup where anyone in the house can pickup and game rather than everyone needing an iPhone. The main question would be if Apple splits the Apple TV into a set top model and a “Pro” model(perhaps bringing back the fan for better performance).

The iPhone has a much larger user base than Apple TV though, and a lot of people already play full games like Fortnite and Genshin Impact on mobile (I can't imagine doing it, but a lot of people do). In other words, I see how they could convince game developers to pay attention to the iPhone, but it would be a much harder lift to convince them to seriously consider Apple TV as a serious gaming device.

The action button reminds me of the Back Tap feature that allows users to tap the back of the iPhone to run various functions. Besides, Back Tap can also be optimized more than the action button. So, if you’re considering getting a new iPhone just because of this button, remember that with the back tap feature your iPhone can do the exact same thing as the action button does.

Regarding the f-ratio comparison between iPhone 15 Pro Max and S23 Ultra, one thing to note is that the f-ratio is the ratio between aperture size and focal length, while the aperture size is what physically determines how many photons hit the sensor, hence the SNR and raw noise level, so you cannot directly compare the f-ratio and need to also take the focal length into account, as they are at different focal length (120mm vs 230mm, or x5 vs x10).

You summed up a lot of my feelings about the event. I don’t plan to buy anything though I was going to only if the close-up micro camera would integrate with the third-party apps. Which I have not been able to make happen for a year on my iPhone 14. a big Applegate that nobody seems to want to touch. But recently I joined the beta program and complained about this immediately and they pretty much fixed it. So I’ve been able to do what no third-party company has been able to do that I have asked repeatedly to fix, so now I can enjoy my iPhone 14. So I am going on a trip so I may go over to my mom’s older mini

You can 100% polish titanium. You can also make it completely black, not dark grey. What I'm really, really hype for is custom anodization that people might do. You can do ALOT with Ti. Rainbow, specific color, patterns, and more. Titanium is a crazy metal as far as coloring goes.

You can do it-I said Seiko does it-but it's really difficult and scratches significantly easier when polished vs Stainless Steel.

@@snazzynope, Seiko uses a coating. You can make Ti 100% black. You can scratch it and it'll just expose more black. Now, I'm not sure if it can be done en mass or in a safe way, but let's just say it involves a lot of WD-40.

Good morning Snazzy Labs, I am pumped about these upgrades myself! I current run an iPhone 11 Pro Midnight Green 256GB and will be upgrading to the iPhone 11 Pro 25GGB probably in Black or Silver. As a small phone lover I really liked to hear that the Pro iPhones are substantially lighter this year AND smaller due to the very small bezel size, this is amazing news! and the fact the batterys are getting larger, huge fan of long long lasting battery life. Also excited that more and more iPhones will have the Dynamic Island so hoping that more and more developers will use this in clever ways.

If I planned on upgrading, I was likely eyeing the 15 Pro instead of the Pro Max as while I still love my 13PM, thing’s starting to feel like a brick in my pocket. The battery life is absolutely killer though. It’s too bad that the 15PM is getting the periscope telephoto camera system and not the regular Pro as I’m pretty sure space would be an issue.

Don’t feel bad about using the 12 Mini. I’m still rocking the base 12. It’s a great phone for how I use it. It really is a tool as opposed to a “cool toy” which phones were for the most part years ago. However, I’m considering upgrading to a 15 Plus as I want something bigger. I just wish the colors weren’t so pastel-y but I guess that’s what cases are for.

I only got the 11 as my 6s was actually dying. The new iPhones need a software change to entice or I stay on my 11 or go to Samsung galaxy for some features I may want when this phone dies.@@wbae1340

Still keeping my 13 mini, until it breaks. What happens then, I have no idea. The keynote itself was even more cringy than normal, which is saying something. Whilst Apple's efforts in the environmental and sustainability arenas are praiseworthy, it's not just their anti-repair stance than sticks in my craw. They make most of their products in sweat shops in East Asia, using poorly-paid and exploited workers. They promote frequent upgrades (e.g. iPhone), which is wasteful (even if you give your old phone to someone else or trade it in). And they continue to be anti-union. All of these things are at odds with the progressive image they try to project.

That was literally the most impressive thing I've ever seen shown at a keynote, and phone reviewers literally glossed over it like it isn't a gigantic move for mobile gaming. Resi 4 does not run well on a 3060 on medium settings 1080p, seeing it run on a mobile processor without fans is the game changing thing that makes me excited for actual true mobile gaming
