Clearly, it’s important to AKA that his story comes through strongly in #TheSneAKA. As he puts it, “Reebok has always been part of my thinking. I would say, Reebok is all about principles. Principles about how you conduct yourself. When I say it’s about being part of my thinking, I mean like excellence. I mean quality. I mean style. Being in fashion. Being on the pulse. Not only has that been a consistent theme in my career and my life, but also when it comes to wearing the brand. Growing up we wore Reebok. The sweaters. The shoes. The tracksuits.”
He continues, “To finally be able to partner with Reebok all these years later, now that I look at it, it was just kind of the universe. We just put it out there, and somehow it came back to me, and here I am in the USA. But to just take it to another level, and change things for a lot of people. Not just for myself, but for the whole African street culture, taking it to the world. It’s kind of crazy to think where my relationship with the brand started as a young kid to where we are now”.
“Everything that we’ve done has been about pushing boundaries.” AKA says. “We’re very lucky to be working with people, global and regional who have a lot of passion for what they do. That passion comes out in every communication that we have back and forth - and that passion is going to come out in The SneAKA. We all know what’s at stake here.”
“Just going back and looking back at me as a young kid, if you told me then that I’d have my own Reebok sneaker?... I probably would have believed you!” [Laughter] “For me, it’s cool. I always believed in myself. It’s just great to see it all come to fruition. So here we are”.
TheSneAKA is a highly exclusive limited edition product. Only 600 pairs are being made. Each box is individually numbered and signed by AKA. Each pair comes with a certificate of authenticity. The SneAKA will be available for purchase on October 26th at Reebok.co.za. A limited number will also be available for purchase in Reebok stores.
