While I think it's great and funny that resellers are losing money, it's ultimately people's fault for being so materialistic and buying scalped overpriced shoes it's literally just a shoe.

I wouldn't exactly say its capitalism, due to the fact that the victory usually is supposed to go to the one that has the best price for the quality of their product. But, this is more unchecked governing allowing one source to gather up all the resources and selling it at a marked up price. The crony capitalism. But, it becomes the inevitable greed that its counterpart of socialism is. They control it all. And eventually when there's no competition amd resources get low, it goes up. In the end, its okay for 1 type of shoe. It sucks, but "Oh Well." But, it becomes bad when its everything and food. Especially, if the gvt owns all food. Amd gets the citizens to attack farmers so all food grown is private or gvt controlled, where private runs the gvt. Its taking away freedom. So, as this practice is done, there needs to be deterrents that everybody needs to be on board with. Overall, its humanity. Amd you have to try and fight greed and power. Its there no matter what you choose.

And also not sure if you have noticed but New Balance and Sketchers, etc. are now also "basketball sneakers" because athletes are using/endorsing them... its also because basketball players are no longer only wearing "true" basketball sneakers (High Tops,etc) now Stars are wearing all kinds of sneakers ...low tops, mids, funky custom styles, etc.. so there are so many different styles that water down the pool of sneakers so people aren't stuck on just a handful of styles (Jordans,etc)

I ran a massive warehouse, and had 240 workers. I wore $40 Skechers. I had dudes were paying MANY hundreds of dollars a month on sneakers, while I put away 20% per month into my 401(k). I am fully retired now, with several hundred thousand dollars in the bank, and my dudes have a closet full of sneakers.

Agreed. The resell market isn't what it used to be. I've bought plenty of hyped releases for retail or lower. The few I did pay resell, they were only a few dollars over retail due to shipping, tax, etc. Patience is key. Plus, there's always something else to backtrack or just around the corner.

Most of these high-priced sneakers don't make it into the market. Instead, they are circulated to other dealers and speculators, who believe they have a valuable item that will yield a return. Truth, not many consumers were dropping 2k on Jordans. It was dealers buying from dealers.

Had a buddy I grew up with and he wasn't a reseller but he would go to sneaker releases at footlocker and buy two pairs of whatever was coming out. One for him and one he would resell. Made like $50 a pair sometimes. He wasn't trying to get rich but in his mind it got him his pair for cheaper so he used it to his advantage.

Something similar happened here in Mexico with the Costco desserts. There can only be one Costco per big city, so many people live far away from the store. People who sell desserts on the street saw an opportunity and started re-selling Costco desserts on their tables (there are a few near my home and I buy from them because I'm not driving across the city just for a cookie or a chocolate muffin). So I see nothing wrong with that, it's a win win, a box of 6 muffins it's 100 pesos, which is around 17 pesos per muffin, and they sell them between 30 and 35 pesos, super aforfable since a slice of cake from starbucks is like 80 pesos. HOWEVER, Other people got the wrong idea and mistook these small bisnesses for a gold mine. And there was a massive avalanche of Costo cakes re-sellers buying all the cakes the moment they were out, and then selling them right by the side of Costo and super costly. Like... my dude! The reason I buy from re-sellers it's because they are near my house and they are affordable! If I'm already in the store why would I want to buy your cakes at a higher price?! Like seriouly, on January, there's a tradition in Mexico where we eat "Rosca de Reyes" and they were around 300 pesos in Costco, there was a guy who baught all of them from his city and was trying to sell them at 1200 pesos. Mexicans can hardly afford necessities, and this guy thought we were goint to pay 1200 pesos for a piece of bread. He then graced us by lowering the price from 1200 to 900. Still nobody bought them, and he had to sell them at les than 100 pesos past the festive day. Re-selling only works if people keep greed out of their sistem.

@ZowVaagNL honestly I'm not that mad at the miners. Sure they used a graphics card for something it wasn't designed, however that didn't tend to increase prices for extended periods of time. The scalpers used the money they got from their original purchases to continue to keep the price artificially high by keeping things out of the general market. Another main difference is that thr miner at least uses the graphics card, most of the scalpers never even built a computer with them inside.

The clothing resellers sell to each other, hype the same 5 shirts ,manipulate the market and gouge the average consumer who doesn't understand the details of vintage. I've heard Drew Heifetz talk about manipulating that market to see how buyers react. I give the vintage reselling world 5 years to bust.

The same thing is happening to retro video game resellers. Resellers bought up all the physical retro games. Driving up the price and creating scarcity. The people who actually wanted to play the games just end up buying repro carts, emulating, and going digital on storefronts. Nobody is paying $400 for one video game. Eventually, the bubble bursts.

So when an artist says they’re not getting paid from their art, in this case Ye, fans of the artist/art usually respond by not purchasing said art. Just like your YT channel for example, if someone hijacked your channel & you come out n say not to watch any videos because you’re not being paid, subscribers that fwu will respond by not watching videos from the hijacked channel. We see this concept in fashion & music all the time.

Apparently, big companies like Nike are cutting so many corners on materials that now there are smaller companies putting out fakes that are of better quality for a cheaper price. They can do this because at the end of the day, you're paying for the brand, not the materials or quality. Most things are a lot cheaper to make than corporations would have you believe.

Resellers are not the real problem. The shoe companies purposely not producing enough to meet demand is the real issue. If a shoe was always in stock at the store then resellers would disappear overnight.

I know an ex employee, that just bought those sneakers like crazy…. He and his wife has a room full of 200 + sneakers. Also , special sneakers vacuum machine to keep them fresh… I asked him , what’s the point of it . ? He told me , it’s nice to watch at it. I told him , it’s a fng sport shoe. Yes he said , but there is value for it. I said , on a sport shoe? He said , yes . I’m happy that that ex employee is not a friend anymore….

This is the reason I switched to designer shoes. I'll be damned if I pay a dime over 200 for Jordans, whereas with designer shoes nothing really sells out since the initial investment is higher and they don't have artificially low stock.

Just bought a pair of black GT sneakers for $25 Cdn . GT is Giant Tiger, a discount chain. They look fine, comfortable, and probably reduce my chances of being mugged, at least for footwear. Wins all around! 🤑🤪

Mall near me has a store with nothing but high end Nike. It always has more workers than customers whenever I pass by. I’ve stopped in there only once the entire 3 years after realizing he’s a reseller. I’m delighted to hear they’re taking the L. F’ em.

The same degenerate nonsense goes down in the Pokemon community... people buy out the hype cards and drive the price through the roof... then dump them all at max price back into the market... old fashioned pump and dump. I hate it. I recently tried to get some Jordans for a family member.... like $150 MSRP but ONLY available through resellers at $400. Ridiculous. I used to skate Dunks but nowadays I skate OG DC Lynx's because I'm actually able to buy them and they're a better shoe anyways. Resellers ruined my favorite skate shoes

I use to sell shoes at a finishline and I would take advantage of uninformed re-sellers. As a salesman if you ask me every Jordan was a great investment lol

As someone who buys boots in the $200-400 range, it blows my mind that people spend these numbers on sneakers. I base my footwear purchases on comfort, performance features and durability. All I see here are $30 walmart off brand sneakers that are dressed up and artificially price inflated due to public demand. What are you demanding? Different colors and patterns of the same basic non-performance materials? I get that stuff like Jordans have their roots in professional basketball, but it feels like the performance aspect was lost to style and status years ago.

Nike did enough market research to understand there was a demand and they where under producing for years, creating a resell market. They just ramped up production. Notice you don’t really have to wait or have a hard time buying new drops anymore. The overproduction devalued shoes and almost completely wiped out the 3rd party reseller.

I just go to Ross or some cheap store and pay like $30 for a pair. Most I paid for a shoe was at Costco for around $35-40. Shouldn’t pay more than $50 for footwear unless if you need quality boots

The problem is not only with sneaker, it concerns records, game consols, concert tickets and so on. Only rich kids are able to go to a concert of their beloved Idol. When I was a kid I was able to buy concert tickets to a reasonable price and I didn't have to be affraid that they will be sold out in seconds. Because you actually had to go to the place where they were selling them and so no bot could just buy up the whole contingent. Also there was no monopoly like we have now with ticketmaster. This company should be looked into by anti trust and be destroyed.

I don't care about the prestige or price of whatever's on my feet, just that it's comfortable and lasts a long time. Hence why I've always worn new balance. The only pair of Nikes I ever had lasted less than a year, every pair of New balance have lasted five plus years.

Working for a estates company I never understood why people collect stuff...time and time again I help clear out houses where the owner has died and I'll come across massive collections anywhere from babies, star trek, sneakers, spoons, etc...but in the end they couldn't take it with them & there was no one else to admire them except a garbage can or another sucker looking to collect. What's the point?

I havnt bought a pair in like 11 years I wasn’t paying over retail it’s already expensive as is and I won’t be paying 2-3x retail when all they did is walk in store and buy all the stock. So hopefully I can finally get a few pairs of shoes not tryna resell just want 3 pairs of some cool shoes 😂😂
