Mega Bomberman is an entirely different game, a port of Bomberman 94 from the PC Engine, and somehow made worse on a 16 bit system from it's original PCE release.

It's kind of crazy to stop to think that this game was released for the Super Nintendo in the same year as the Saturn Bomberman for the Sega Saturn and Bomberman 64 for the Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo really was one of the consoles with the longest lifespan I've ever seen, the following year he still had Megaman and Bass as an exclusive. Nowadays you don't see consoles lasting that long anymore, usually when a new generation of consoles comes along, the previous one dies in less than 2 years. (especially Nintendo consoles, since the GameCube era they pretty much kill their consoles as soon as they release a new one)

i agree on consoles not lasting more than a year and a half. i would have had the 8-bit platforms lasting until end of '96/ early '97; the 16-bit platforms lasting until end of '99/ early 2000; the 32/64-bit consoles lasting until early/mid 2003; the wonderswan/swan crystal/gameboy color/neo geo pocket lasting until 3rd quarter of 2006; the dreamcast/gamecube/playstation 2 lasting until mid/late autumn of 2008; the Wii/ps3/Xbox 360/lindbergh from sega lasting until end of 2017/ early 2018; and the ps4 lasting until spring 2025. basically these consoles from these generations would stay around long enough to host more AAA titles. wonderswan/swan crystal should have had a bomberman title in the vein of the saturn/n64/neo geo/ps1/PC engine/snes/gameboy/gamecube/megadrive entries.

3, 4, and 5 are far better games, they went with the Bomberman 94 art, which IMO was some of the best sprite work the series had seen up to that point.

@reversalmushroom It was more of the fact that I played the game when I was a kid cause Bomberman 3 was released in Europe (4 and 5 weren't). So, that's probably the reason, but I like the game more than 4 and 5 cause 4 never really interested me much and 5 was just a crazy game! I never understood the need for multiple exits, but it's just my opinion! :P

+Taco Il Pinguino IMHO Super Bomberman 5 is a lot better than Super Bomberman 4, because it's a non-linear game, unlike Super Bomberman 4.

What good was their attempt at "non-linearity" when you would still be sent over to a boss with hardly enough power ups and experience all too similar stages? There's also the issue of 4 having more readily useful rides (Angler who could bypass walls through walking/floating, missile launching turtle who could kamikaze him/herself to kill enemies, etc.) and multiplayer characters that actually had special abilities (Rocket man could rocket through people lethally, Fire man could shoot forth a burst of fire that could kill, while Flail dude and Heart girl could simply use their weapons to knock power ups out of enemy players. The brainy looking guy just had an invisibility ability that took too long and could easily be juked. All but the power up knock out ability guys had the opportunity cost of moving slower for a bit along with weak bombs in exchange for nifty powerful attacks that could change the course of the match. Meanwhile, the louies hardly went anywhere they didn't already go in SBM3, the multiplayer characters may as well just be colored bombermen from how much they lack any abilities. The stages all had ripped assets for roughly 80% of the series' content and hardly any of them did anything that the previous games hadn't already done. The game felt less like a new entry into the series and more like just something they had to shovel out to make their japanese audience with super nintendos not feel like they've been abandoned. Honestly, if it they really wanted the game to be the true end all and be all for the series, they would have put in some more effort and actually build more on series innovations instead of just revert back to barely even 3.

+Taco Il Pinguino agreed. 5 was pretty much the "clip show" of the series with a few redesigns to feel new. Bomberdog and the redesigned Louies were still pretty cool
