Great video! A couple of things that I've also noticed over the years: - Pitchers don't tire based on pitch selection. The "FAT" (or "fatigue") stat tells you how many innings he can go before he gets tired. - In season mode the computer's defense gets significantly better after 20 games. - Put all of your best defenders in the outfield, primarily your center fielder. The CPU will hit gap shots all the time and if your CF has a defense rating of 9 or 10, you can run those down a lot faster than anyone with 8 or lower for their rating. - I have not noticed a way to cheese hitting. I've been playing this game for 20 years and it seems as RNG as RNG can be, but your "BAT" stat gives you an idea of how often you'll get a hit, and your "POW" stat will give you an idea of how hard they will hit the ball. Also, go White Sox. :-)

My key to hitting was to put the very, very tips of the batter's toes BARELY on the inside Chalk (I mean to where you can barely see the pixels of the chalk and the toes touching, but make sure they are touching), and stand as close to the catcher as possible. Just put him there every time. I never moved the player to try and hit. Then just get the timing down. Me and my buddies used to have EPIC 10-Man Tournaments once a year for like 10-years. It became tradition. We'd all play single-player throughout the year, and then we'd all get together for a big double-elimination Tournament. The final 2 teams played a best of 5series. Manuel Fielding only. We were all really good. I remember numerous NAIL BITERS. The main game I remember was in the Championship game one year. The Series was tied at 2 games to 2 games, and I was playing one of my best friends. The final score was 12-11. I tied it in the top of the 9th with a Fred McGriff 3-run HR, and then he came back and hit a Jay Buhner Walk-Off HR with 1-out in the bottom of the 9th. Those tournaments were so much fun. I played this game from 95 (8-years old) all the way through High School. I'm an avid MLB The Show Diamond Dynasty player now, but I'd love to pick up a SNES just for this game and get the tournaments going again.

The fact that you can geek out over role playing games, yet geek out over sports, is something sorely missing in the community. I remember playing this for an entire season. All 162 games plus the playoffs and world series. I struggled in the beginning because I refused to use auto fielding but after I got that figured out I think I only lost one time the rest of the season, giving me something like 154 wins on the season.

Love this game! GAmes are short and too the point, the animations are cool, players stats/abilities make an impact (especially hitting power, fielders arm strength and speed) and players can get hot and cold as a season goes on and you can tell by the background color behind them. Love when players crash into the wall or climb the wall when trying to catch HR's. Best advice for hitting is to go the other way and try to hit towards the end of the bat.

My favorite baseball game of all-time. I can't tell you how many hours I not only spent playing this game growing up, but also renaming all the players in the game using a 1993 Baseball Digest magazine countless times because the game memory would get wiped out from time to time. I still play the game to this day. Kevin Maas on the Yankees was an absolute beast! The combo of him and Tartabull were tough to beat. Mark Whiten and the Cardinals were also a fun team to play with. The Blue Jays were understandably good as they should have been. I used to write down all the stats I acquired on post notes. I had dozens of them and were compare my all-time records against myself. LOL. Only flaw of the game was not having stat leaders and record books, etc.

Thanks for the excellent video; I have learned tons from it. Have you (or anyone else) noticed that MAN controlled right handed batters usually hit to right field (they don't pull)? Same for MAN controlled lefties; they usually hit to left field.

I tend to hit pulls moving the batter to the front of the box (Yeah, the front, I know...XD ) and dependent to where the pitcher is on the rubber, I try to line up with him. Then, once the pitcher finishes his delivery animation, I'll tap the swing button (staying stationary, no movement during the swing) , and if a straight fastball is thrown, 75% of the time it'll be a pull-swing with power. Of course, I usually play as the Orioles, so it could differ team to team.

I appreciate you playing manual defense. So many videos here they won't do it, don't know why. I don't totally agree with your batting idea, but it's still not bad. I prefer being in the middle of the box, aligned with the plate, and try and get the barrel of the bat over the middle, for the most part. I also believe that there is some sort of hot and cold mechanism built into the game. I usually start off a season really hot (gets the player into the game), then cool down to even things out a bit, and then last playoffs, for example, I blew the cover off the ball. Almost all of the games were blowouts, with a few tight ones to keep things interesting. Finally, I never throw fastballs. Not worth the risk. Thanks for the cool review. I'm glad your team survived contraction...mine was moved away *le cry*

Bunt is how u win. Cpu always throws home with man on 3rd base no matter how many out if runner not directly on 3rd. If good bunt while stealing home, u can score and make it to 1st base. If not, u can still have people on 1st and 3rd. Rarely does the batter not touch the bunt but sometimes pitcher throws it away from them but most of time it works. If the person on 3rd is fast and the catcher and ss/2b does not throw fast, u can also play a game to move runner off 3rd to have them throw home then run guy off 2nd and flip ir back and forth to then go home on throw to 2nd from catcher. U need to do this at times as during season, some games u wont be able to hit. Cardinals are the best and fastest team for this. Rockies also good for it. It works most of the time and rarely lose but u also want to just hit homers at times..but u can do that. Hours and hours and hours is how i learned it.

I use to play this game all the time. I had one spectacular play. I pitched the ball, and the batter smacked it to the upper right field. It was going medium speed, and I was running with my guy to catch it. The ball is lowering down on the screen, and my guy is coming close to it. I kept running, and kept my eye on the ball. I jumped up, and caught the ball. As soon as I caught the ball my character smacked into the wall, and fell on the ground. It was just a shocking moment to have that happen.

I've heard the game will save your progress as you play through Season Mode or World Series. Could you please confirm whether it saves without the typical coin battery? Thank you very much for this upload! I picked this gem back up again recently and it's strange how hard it is to find any information on the mechanics of it, so I'm compiling as much info as I can. One question for clarity, about pitching -- your strategy is always fastballs with movement to the sides of the zone, then in 2-strike situations, a hard breaking changeup to K the batter, correct? Do you ever use the left/right breaking balls at all? And with the fastballs, do you have a strong preference regarding inside vs. outside, or do you mix both in regardless of the batter's handedness? That's my main question, but a couple of more general questions: what, if anything, do you think the BAT attribute affects? Intuitively, you'd think it would govern the player's ability to hit for contact, but I've read in many places skeptical comments about BAT's effects. POW certainly seems to be way more important. A similar question, how important do you think batting stances are? It seems like lots of folks think stance and POW are the main variables in batting. Is that something you've ever noticed? Obviously you won't have precise answers to these questions, this game doesn't get the same kind of attention as TSB so nobody's bothered to peek in the code and reverse engineer all the hex to answer these questions. But any thoughts you might have would be very much appreciated -- as is the video! Thanks again.
@je70557 жыл бұрын
One more observation I meant to add -- in my experience, throwing a pitch right down the middle isn't universally a bad idea. Just hitting B and never touching the D-pad at all, and just letting the ball float down main street, is often weirdly effective, for whatever reason. I like to pepper it in every now and then
@SNESdrunk7 жыл бұрын
James, thanks for the comment! I only do straight curveballs to batters in the bottom half of the lineup, the 3 or 4 hitters will usually crush those. And inside fastballs are always more preferable (for me anyway) than outside corner fastballs As for BAT, if I had to guess, it'd just be the extremely primitive aspect of how that dude's able to make contact and stay alive with two strikes (fouling off pitches in other words). As for batting stances, I've seen/experienced nothing that suggests one stance is better than another, they're just purely cosmetic. Always cool to hear from anyone else that digs this game as much as I do

one things is sure BAT stats seems really odd. with the Yankees, ALWAYS bring Harlem in the lineup, yes he has 10 POW / 3 BAT, but always hits many homers especailly in the first games of a full season. so I guss BAT is very comestic-y. if you want some details about this game I made a blog on this games bakc in early 2000's cause I couldn't stop and recorded many stats, have a look. this game deserve more love! kengriffeyjrpresentsmlb.blogspot.com/
