3:18 about that nice touch that each character has a different groaning sound when attacked and you think nothing similar has ever been done....well, kinda right, at least not in terms of screams, but in "Lufia II - Rise of the Sinistrals" for each character, when their text bubble plops up, the sound efect that goes along with it has different pitches for each character which is pretty amazing as well, at least in my opinion.

The Gunman pssst eh u aint heard this from me bud but i gots the stuff u need heheheh.....lol just use emuparadise or romhustler, those are my goto single rom sites, just pick the ones u want, trust me getting those big ol torrents with every rom just saturates things and leads to an easy burn out. Just pick the ones u want, and on that note im assuming u prob dont have lunarips or an easy rom patcher so i suggest for games like this, translations,hacks, etc. Just google the rom name and "pre patched" youll 99% of the time find what u need right away, add "english" maybe if the trans patched rom isnt first to come up, Lmao sry, hope this helped

This game is actually made by Glodia - which some of its employees (including Tenpei Sato) founded Right Stuff, and was inspired by Zavas - one of Glodia's earlier RPGs. The SNES version is published by Ascii Mediaworks. Alshark (by Right Stuff) had the same battle system as this game. (This version of Emerald Dragon is developed by Alfa System - known for the Tales of the World and Shikigami no Shiro games, and they were known for the PC Engine port of Ys III.)

This one has a good look to it. I may have to give this one a try as it might be my style of RPG. The presentation looks nice with the character portraits which give the game some extra character. The art really did a lot for Phantasy Star 4 and this reminds me of that. The style of the art also reminds me of Langrisser. Very interesting. Thanks for showing as I don't recall hearing much about this one before.

The reason this game wasn't localized was likely twofold. First, it was fairly late in the life of the SNES, and second was just the plain fact that not many JRPGs were localized at all, as there wasn't really a big market for JRPGs in the West until Final Fantasy 7 blew the doors off their hinges. Localizing an RPG back then was considered a much bigger risk than it was later on.

Yet another SNES JRPG I'd never heard of. I've often had trouble deciding whether the SNES, the PSX, or the PS2 was the true host of the golden era of JRPGs, but the more I discover, the more it seems apparent that it could only have been Nintendo's 16-bit box of dreams...

Wow, this game looks *great* - why didn't any of the many publishers in the SNES era localize this, when so many other (worse) SFC games got english language localizations.
@jmyers1385
@jmyers1385 6 жыл бұрын
Even good games by big publishers didn't make it over here (zero Dragon Quest games for SNES being a glaring omission). RPGs didn't hit the big time until FF7 came out in the west. Also a lot of good RPGs were under publishers that couldn't afford to publish outside of Japan and may not have had connections with publishers who could or would take the risk. It's a shame, but it makes sense, a lot of great games that did make it here weren't terribly successful from a financial standpoint.

I've only barely messed with this game though it seems as if the MSX release was very different from it, in such a way that when I loaded some end game save files I could have sworn the game was broken because it would have endless pathways and labyrinths, that I realized were intentional by design. They seem to have started the story off much like a prologue to the original game to help the story flow better, while also making it much more concise. The SNES was better in many ways but the animation scenes give the MSX game a very different personality. This game and Xak: The Art of Visual Stage seem to just make it flow better on SNES. Another game that gets overlooked, 'Illusion City,' was eventually fan translated to English) on the limited released MSX Turbo R and also ported to the equally short-lived Mega CD (though was never translated,) which has a dystopian feel to it that is reminiscent of Shadowrun (or perhaps similarly Snatcher or Blade Runner.)

Hi "Snes Drunk", your reviews about Snes games are great! I'd like you to check "Tales of Phantasia", a japanese RPG that has been translated but never got released outside Japan, as far as I know. For sports, you should play "International Super Star Soccer 2 Deluxe", that's considered to be the very best football game for SNES, and a real "classic" for all Nintendo Latin American fans. BTW, just saw a comment below about Star Ocean, that's another awesome RPG you should play.

I thought I was at least minimally aware of all the English-translated Super Famicom RPGs, but somehow I missed this one, I think because TransCorp has only done 4 games. As a side note, I've been enjoying following this project: superfamicomrpgs.blogspot.com/ I really hope that guy keeps up his momentum, but he's going chronologically and it's going to take him a long time to get to some of the later RPGs.
