The whole series is pretty much unknown in the West, but it was supposedly a big hit in Japan, starting from PCE-CD in particular. My fav game in the series is The 4th Apocalypse on the Saturn/PSP, since it takes place in the wackiest version of the US imaginable. They're poking fun at the US in more ways than one, from mecha fights in Hollywood, through songs about being fat and eating sweets, to a singer who enchants people with her pop songs to do her bidding. Makes sense though, since the series is to a large degree based on cultural misconceptions. Also, Red Company created another famous game series in Japan, Sakura Wars - yet again fairly unpopular in the West.

The game is notoriously difficult to emulate, from what I've seen- specifically in the sound department. I downloaded and patched it myself and tested it in both VBA and No$GBA. No$GBA emulated the music properly, but only after a certain point- basically past the title screen and the intro, then complete silence barring sound effects. Meanwhile, VBA didn't emulate the sound correctly at all.

probably because Developers are greedy and they don't want any risk, just go for the proven moneymakers
@duffman18
@duffman18 4 жыл бұрын
Because porting is very difficult and expensive. It's not just copy and pasting the code into a switch game or PS4 game or whatever. It costs time and money. And so they have to weigh the risk of whether people will actually buy it and whether they'll make enough money back to cover the cost of porting it, and maybe hopefully make a little bit of profit. But yeah it's difficult. There's a reason that there's game dev studios entirely dedicated to porting, like M2 for example, because you need experts to be able to do it and make it accurate and put in extra features such as save states. And that's just porting. Doing a official English translation (and don't forget, if the do that then they need to also translate it to Spanish, Italian, German, French etc and another dozen languages) costs a lot of money to do it properly and do it well, do it in a way that's faithful to the original story/text. Translators don't come cheap, and it takes a lot of time, a lot of back and forth between the original writers and the translators, correcting hundreds of lines and stuff. It takes ages. Remastering/remaking is even more difficult and expensive. It's literally remaking a game from the ground up, and somehow having to try and preserve the feel of the original game as perfectly and accurately as possible while also updating it. They have the advantage of not having the first 6 months of development that usually goes to designing the mechanics and the world and the controls etc, the game is already there designed and they just have to copy it. But still, remaking it from the ground up is just as hard as making a game from scratch, there's gonna be months and months and months of bug testing and general game testing. All that costs money, lots of employees to pay. It's all about money
@ChrisEbz
@ChrisEbz 4 жыл бұрын
@@Shinmsl They aren't "greedy", it's a business meant to make money. You think a company would run itself into the ground because someone wanted a rare remake? Companies that can spare the extra $change for fan service or appreciation of their older work are less likely to go belly up and also use it as marketing if it's worth it.

I really like how the combat is shown from behind the characters like in the Phantasy Star series. I wish more RPGs did that instead of the typical side view fights. Too bad the enemies are not animated as well.
