There’s a fantasy encyclopedia in which mothmen have an entry, they are an all female species that spread aphrodisiac when they fly and have to mate with humans in order to reproduce, they will also mate for life when they find a human they like. Look up MGE mothman if you’re curious

Small trivia: Allegedly, the locations of UFO abductions and the locations of (older, obviously) fairy kidnappings are often the same. Which says something - about remote places and human assumptions.

I leveraged this video as part of a presentation to get my partner to visit the museum with me. So we added it on to our trip to visit Virginia and instead of driving straight home we drove like an extra 4 hours to the museum. We had booked a hotel but the general state of West Virginia and Point Pleasant in specific was so depressing that we cancelled our hotel room and drove the 9 hours home instead of staying overnight. The small downtown area around the museum is basically the only part of the town that you would consider a town and most of the buildings are empty. We did enjoy the museum and the trading company across the street has some nice stuff. Other than that it was basically just a mostly empty extremely small town on the side of the road. So thank you for making this video so we could have that experience.

Excellent video. The production quality was impressive. I appreciated the amount of research you conducted as well as the footage you interspersed along lines in your script. It was engaging to watch and listen to. I always look forward to your Halloween content every year, and excellent point to Wib about respecting people's testimonial thoughts on these matters that they feel are genuine. Also, excellent work to snipe on her vocals as well as reading out those comments along with the others in which I could barely contain myself. Great job all around and you should be proud.

I absolutely know the fear these people have. In my teen years, my friends and I shared our own freaky experience, an experience that repeated through an entire Summer Break. As an adult, I realize that there are likely very real explanations, in the moments it occurred we all shared a real, believable fear that gripped us for that entire summer.

Ooooook so what happened?
@elfbait3774
@elfbait3774 2 жыл бұрын
@@seamusoshanahan6218 I'll try to b brief. A friend of mine and I found ourselves having to camp out in his car one night. We lived in the country and wanted to make sure we were overnighting someplace where nobody would bother us so we picked the gravel lot along side the local grange building. In the middle of the night, I awoke to a strange warbling, yowling, almost cackling sound coming up from the slough that was down a forested hill behind the grange. The noise was brief and as I had only heard it briefly and my friend was still sound asleep, I dismissed it. That was until I heard it again. This time, I woke up wo a much louder, more persistent version of what I had heard before. I turned to see if my friend was still asleep and, in the gloom of the night, saw him sitting upright, his normally dark skin somehow seeming a bit more paled. A round of, "Do you here that? F**K YEAH I do," bounced back and forth between the two of us as the sound or, as it now seemed, sounds (it sounded like multiple things) was barreling up the wooded hillside and toward where we were parked. I remember laughing internally that it was just like in the movies because my buddy's perfectly tuned Firebird, that always started on the first try, just didn't seem to want to turn over. It was just as the noises seemed like they were about to break the tree line that the engine finally roared to life and we sped out of there in a shower of gravel. We spent the rest of the night parked in front of my grandfather's B&B in town. Over the course of the remaining summer my friends and I all tried to figure out what it was. We heard it a few more times, echoing up from the various winding roads and from over the hill from my farm. We even thought it might have caused a motorcycle accident as we heard a biker speed down the road toward the grange one night, squeal and crash and then the sound of whatever it was we had heard before. We asked around and got the usual collection of country bigfoot stories, haunted houses, old man/lady in a spooky house, tales you expect around rural America, but a couple of things stood out. Lots of people feel weird and do not like that grange and the area around it is known for local bigfoot sightings. We had never heard whatever it was in the years before or after that one summer, so whatever it was must have been passing through.

On the "Americans with guns" deal; The unknown scares people. And unfortunatly, in America, if you get scared by literally anything (animals, cryptids, the governement, people with other beliefs or physical features or damn near anything at this point it feels like) you reach for your gun to ensure your "superiority". People have been trying to "bag a bigfoot" for YEARS. Also I didnt realize you guys had more monster videos. Gonna be watching some of THOSE now.

There’s a lot of interesting details to the sightings in Chicago. Including by police. Back when I had read the book and was heavily into the music made for the movie (so around the time it came out) I woke one day to a weird message on my answering machine from 10:30 the night before, a time I was up reading and should have heard the phone. It was from my friend Steve… only it sounded weird, he got his own name wrong at first (called me him and himself me, then corrected himself), his tone was off and implied he was in some sort of trouble. I called him straight away, and he sounded earnest when denying he’d called me. His wife confirmed that he didn’t. I played them the recording and she was weirded out and he was near panicked about it. He checked with the phone company confirming his phone hadn’t called mine in two weeks. I asked if he could have called from a pay phone while sleepwalking or drunk but he’d quit drinking, never sleepwalked and was more than 5km from the nearest pay phone (he ran a store in a remote tiny community). I kept the recording for many years till sadly the answering machine battery died after then-partner unplugged it so sadly I no longer have it. I have no explanation for this, even if my friend had hoaxed the call (totally out of character, and he’d have needed his wife to be in on it which is even more out of character, and neither new about Mothman at the time) it wouldn’t explain why I hadn’t heard it as my extension was right beside my bed where I was reading till 12. So there you go. My bit of John Keel style weirdness from just a week after reading the book and binging the creepy songs from the movie.

My favorite bit of Mothman fiction comes from the Vampire: the Masquerade-revised edition Gangrel clan book. That Mothman was a Gangrel vampire that was heavily altered, had went insane and had somehow gained the power of prophecy. The local prince had him(her?) staked and left out for the sunrise, because his actions constituted a violation of the laws of the masquerade, the had a couple of Nosferatu go out into West Virginia and Ohio position as Mothman and Owlman to sew confusion. In VtM, Gangrel is a nearly feral clan that every time they fall into a frenzy, they permanent animalistic feature, Nosferatu are a clan of vampires who are extremely ugly and monstrously deformed. Mothman isn't my favorite cryptid. My favorite cryptid is the atmospheric beasts, AKA sky jellyfish.

I spend far too much time listening to sceptic (and a few absurdly gullible) cryptid podcasts and seeing the topic from your perspective was like a crossover episode I never expected to happen! And you did really well, you had many important points covered in 20 minutes most other people take hours to get to... okay, perhaps because that's their whole business model. Kelly-Hopkinsville Goblins next time? That case also features owls but ALSO GOBLINS!

I heard a theory that the original Mothman phenomenon was the manifestation inside the minds of the towns people of some kind of tension or anxiety in the local area, and that after the bridge collapsed the attention of the locals was diverted elsewhere and thus the sightings stopped.

The connection to Skillet is interesting. When I was just getting out of high school a friend of mine got Skillet to sign his skillet at a live show, which he was beyond stoked about ever after. Yesterday evening (that's a day AFTER Halloween) I was walking back from the supermarket when a giant feathered shadow appeared in front of me. It flapped it's wings portentously for a moment and I stopped walking. Was it Mothman? was it the giant kookaburra cryptid that haunted my childhood walks home from school? Looking in the direction the shadow was cast I initially could not see the being that cast this hideous apparition because of a dazzling bright light in my eyes. So, about five metres above me was a yellow sodium street lamp. About forty centimetres below this a wire was affixed to the stobie pole and strung across the road and a magpie had just landed there. The proximity to the lamp had blown it's shadow out to three metres across though.

Loved the video, but a small thing about pronunciation. (I know you're not well versed in the language, it's fine if you make mistakes) In Danish, and indeed Swedish and Norwegian, the letter ä, if it is anywhere other than before the letter r is pronounced as an e. Both ä and e are read as ä when before r. EDIT: And because I am aparently blind, I read 'Swiss' as 'Danish' rendering my entire comment invalid so... yeah.
