I do like the headcam, and the commentary about how much side, and stun, etc., that you're putting on every shot, even depicting it on the picture of that giant cue ball. I think that is very educational.

Invaluable content & shot techniques, honestly. Thanks A Lot. If & When I start playing again after this mismanaged pandemic, I would love to book a couple of session with you. I have a general question to ask, and if you'd like you can answer on here: Is there a routine or something that can tell you as a coach or the player itself, that they have the "natural talent" to become a PRO, and should invest their time, money and effort to go for the Q School opportunity? I have had a top break of 113 in practice (was on a 147 and rattled my last black for yellow), but I am not sure if it was my natural talent or my ability to use the various elements of cueing, that I can make breaks of 70s 80s in practice and above 50s in matches and i am just a weekend player but do have my own cue etc. because i tend to believe that i was lucky for that 113, and guess what...that was the very last day before the pandemic and lost access to a snooker table after that day. thanks for your videos, anyways. Means a lot.
@BartonSnooker3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks a lot for all the positive feedback. Great to help. With regards to your question, is a very good one. There's a couple of things you'll see about a player: one is the way they strike the ball. Their tendency to strike well and do a lot of things well, that someone else might not. The second thing is their approach to the game. Just the body language and way they see shots and actually play. A bit like two different people playing the same piece of music: they may both play it, but one might interpret it differently, play with a lot of touch and feel and freedom. Hope that makes sense, but you see that a lot with players. All that being said, I'm not a believer in 'natural talent'. If someone works hard and wants to achieve a goal, they can. There is nothing stopping any human from poking a little round sphere into another one, using a wooden stick. The more you practice doing the right things, the better you will get. It's a bad move to think that someone else is somehow 'gifted' or 'naturally skilled' in something. It allows you to think you'll never be able to do what they do, and that's very restrictive. Anyone that's good at anything, has invested time into that thing and deserves their results in their field. For me as a coach, the biggest thing that shows me whether someone should think about being a professional, is their approach to the game. If I've got somebody that's just starting out, but they 100% love playing snooker and that's their passion, then that's what separates them from the rest of the people around them. Conversely, it's not good being able to pot balls and position the white, if you've got no discipline to apply yourself and hunger to dedicate your life to the game.
@gypsysoulgypsy3 жыл бұрын
@@BartonSnooker thank you so much for such a detailed, quick and profound feedback. I understand your point on natural talent. As Ken Doherty says and most Pros agree, 3 skills needed to be a Pro; put hours in, ability to handle pressure and natural talent. If we look at Ronnie, Judd, Ali Carter, Lisowski even Robertson, they do have some extraordinary talent cuz of how they strike the ball, as you said and the way Ronnie maneuvers the cue ball, it oozes pure talent. One might say Ronnie is an exception. He's rare because his b or c game is even better than a lot of Pro. Said that he kinda missed a trick in his last match, got confused and messed up his position from blue to red in the last decider. My point is, some kinda natural talent is definitely a need if not all I'd say. Let's continue this conversation with more depth when I get access to a table and book sessions with you. Can't wait! Thanks Steve, keep em coming!

Great work Steve. I’ve been steadily improving over then last year using some of your routines. But one regular shot I’m missing is cutting a ball and under cutting it. Example is being high on the black and hitting the top cushion about an inch before the pocket. Or leaving the ball a bit close to the baulk line after pitting the yellow and then under cutting the green. I’m getting regular 30+ breaks and this seems to be stopping me from making the breakthrough to regular 50+ breaks. Any help would be much appreciated.

Ok,so why are we playing side when all coaches tells us no to complicate things by playing side?
@BartonSnooker3 жыл бұрын
I don't tell people to not use side. Side is very useful. Once you get over the fundamentals of hitting a shot, I'm always teaching people about side and it's benefits. Obviously I wouldn't do this in lesson 1 or 2 because I want that player to go away and get used to the changes in hitting the ball and commit to any adjustments we make. From there, I have detailed paperwork on side and it's use and why we need it. It's all building blocks.
