Instead of water you can use sand in sealer, thinned down a bit. That really helps, you can then sand it down and apply finish. Great project I love the legs.

Very nice build Keith. The metal in the legs i think you will find it is lead, years ago when they made cues, everyone wanted a different weight of cue, some liked a light one and some a heavy one, to do this lead was put into the bottom of the cue. I am sure your blade should be ok, lead is a softer metal easier to melt and shape, it's also used for Fishing Weights as well. I used to play Snooker and did some Sea Fishing, but not at the same time ha ha ha. Barry (Wirral, ENG)

Thanks Barry. I think you’re right because I used the saw today and the blade looked and cut fine. I think I got away with it! Cheers, Keith

Nice one, Keith! Re the metal in the cue... I rather think they were sometimes given a wee lump of Lead to give 'em some oomph. Maybe it didn't do too much damage to your sawblade... Best aye.

A very nice Table Keith. That's twice I have seen you use the Table saw to cut circles, and you made a comment about being a bit dodgy. Have you thought about making a Band saw circle jig??? Quite simple and adjustable to even bigger than the table tops you have just made. Maybe that could be a project video for the future. ( just seen a similar comment below). You could also use a Router circle Jig, again easy to make / use. I have both and use them quite frequently. How come Peter M hasn't talked you into a spray set up LOL.
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 5 жыл бұрын
I’m quite comfortable using the tablesaw jig. It’s one of those things that are dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing, which is why I mention it in the video because I’d hate for someone to try it and have a mishap. Besides, I can’t be bothered to make another jig for the router or bandsaw when I already have one for the tablesaw and I don’t have space for loads of jigs either. I have just got a sprayer funnily enough! Haven’t unpacked it yet and have no idea how to use it!

@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I’d rather not have the imperfections in this particular build as I wanted to keep the top quite clean so that the legs were more of a focal point, but yep it would have been an option and may do something like that in future

the saw blades made for cutting wood and those for cutting metal, both use carbide tips, are those tips any different from one to another ? i kinda don't think so, their angles and stuff might be different, but cutting a bit of metal should not really damage a wood cutting blade

I'm a little confused. What caused the chop saw to throw sparks if there was no metal inside the legs? Were the cuts on the chop saw and hand saw just made in different places?
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 5 жыл бұрын
There was metal inside them, but for some reason when I made the cuts to some of the cues with a hacksaw/old handsaw I didn’t hit metal, and when I used the mitresaw, I did - just unlucky I think!
