It's an historic thing, years ago in the uk and europe we mostly smoked hash as it wasn't as bulky to smuggle,weed was a rarity and what was about was compressed and seedy, so if you didn't want to use a pipe or bong and wanted a spliff you had to use tobacco. weed was more accessible to the US via Mexico, so you didn't have mix it with tobacco.

You can roll a proper joint with 0.25g weed and some tobacco. Burns smooth, isn't as harsh on your throat as pure weed. Makes you high enough anyway. Without tobacco, it would be a tiny joint that burns away in 5 min and needs to be lighted several times. So the tobacco is there to expand the smoking experience and to not waste weed

Nicotine causes vasoconstriction and increases heart rate, it also makes people more alert, less stressed and generally improves mood. Couple that with marijuana and for the 30ish minutes nicotine will be in effect and you'll have a generally better high. I did a mini experiment to see if nicotine and marijuana would be better or without nicotine twice and with nicotine it was much better, although rougher on the throat due to the unfiltered smoke. With Marlboro Red and with Marlboro gold the red was better. Another thing, The point still stands, The USA is just one of few countries where there isn't legal persecution over use of marijuana, which would mean for others who aren't so lucky to live in countries that got with the time that Marijuana is much more expensive and sold in lesser quantities and of lesser quality. I'm not approving or recommending the use of cigarettes or any carcinogenic/harmful substances. Obviously if you can smoke your weed without tobacco, go for it, if you can't well you can't.

In the 90's-00's Hash was about the only thing you could buy because it was the easiest thing to smuggle in from Amsterdam. So you would have to mix it with tobacco to roll a joint. You would rarely get bud and it would be compressed into cubes to maximise space and never smelled like modern weed (they were trying to not get caught by customs and the smell is a bit of a giveaway). The bud revolution happened in the mid 00's. It's also a cost thing. Snoop and Rogan don't have to worry about the cost these days. Most people cant afford to spend, say £200 a week on bud. But I dare say if they had the money they would.

Yes in the In the UK at least we hadn't really figured out the the whole growing thing yet. The weed we got was shit mersh full of twigs and seeds. Most of the hash going around was that shit soap bar that often had bits of plastic in the middle. It was rock hard you had to burn it to get it to crumble, christ if you could roll a zoot with that at a festival in the pissing down rain and wind next to a massive speaker shacking the place you knew you had mastered rolling lol. I don't think it was that we really wanted the hash is was just preferable to the mersh. Remember going to your dealer and hearing the dreaded words I've only got weed? Lol. Every now and again something better would pop up but for the most part those were the choices. Then slowly the skunk came in. I remember it would pop up now and then the gradually it was the norm and nobody wanted that soap bar anymore. Once people started setting up farms and you didn't have to smuggle it over anymore it changed the whole game but it too time for us to really catch up with the whole growing thing. Now hash is less common but it's at least good hash. People don't want shit anymore.
