Snow Trekking Poles Fail

A couple of days ago I bought some trekking poles to walk with, as I was a bit nervous of falling on the snow & ice we have up here in the scottish highlands. Today, I went for a walk using both poles for the first time. While my hubby was filming some B roll for our you tube channel, he caught me falling, I tripped over one of my poles! I could see the fence post with barbed wire rapidly approaching my face and in order to prevent myself slamming into that, I threw myself to the floor (the lesser of two evils I think) It was one of those trips, where I couldn't recover my balance!

Hi guys! We decided to put this short clip out as it’s current with the snow situation. While out walking & filming “B Roll” I took a tumble! Luckily, managed to save myself from hitting my head on a fence post & barbed wire, but have antagonised my knee that I’ve been having physio on for a while in the process & hurt my wrist, but nothing is broken 😅

Oh no. At least you didn’t hurt yourself too badly, Em. We bought some micro spikes on Tuesday cos it’s so icy here at Derwentwater. They are like magic shoes. I walked up to the waterfalls in Ambleside yesterday and there was nobody there because it was so icy and snowy. But the micro spikes are amazing - not one slip - even in the town it was treacherous with everyone slipping over. Highly recommended you two.

Hiya! Hope you have stayed safe through the storm. Also your knees are OK. You really went down with a wallop in the snow the other day. If its very icy and slippery I use things that go on the soles of my shoes or boots. Mike and I got a email back about our van today. They think it's faulty brake pedal switch. New one has been ordered. Fingers crossed the van will then be OK. Take care. Bev and mike. Xx

Hi Bev & Mike, Yes, the van hardly moved, I don’t think we got it as bad as everywhere else, this site is in a dip & we were surrounded by small trees on our pitch, it was still noisy though & I was very worried 😟 knee is doing ok, a bit twingy going up n down the steps though, but could’ve been worse 😊 Yes we just bought some grips to put on our boots 🥾 for next time 😂 Ahh glad they’re now sorting it for you and really hope you can get out in your lovely van again soon 😎 Take care both & hope you’re all intact after the storm. @@vansforthememories I’ve currently got a muscle spasm in my back (I get them a lot due to a permanently partially dislocated bone) so not the best but it will pass eventually 🤷‍♀️ frustrating as I’ve got loads to do and can’t move 🙄 apart from that I’m ok x

😂😂😂😂😂 I've gotta laugh cos I went flying last week at Burnham on Sea. Glad you're not too bad and just achy and swollen. My knee is bruised and cut and I did it infront of people who asked if I was OK and I replied with "yes" and "I'm such a dickhead!" 😂

It's probably a good job that you had the stick on your right wrist as you might have instinctively gone to grab the barbed wire fence to stop yourself falling. Having said that, if you hadn't had the stick on your right wrist, you wouldn't have tripped over it. I didn't get on with two sticks and I just use one now when the going gets rough as I find that it stops me going over if I catch a rock or a root with my toe or I put my foot in a hole that I didn't see. I've ditched the wrist strap as well as I don't like being attached to something that might get trapped in a crevice.

Yeah you’re probably right, I would have tried to grab the fence ☺️ I went out with one the day before & was doing ok, but felt I still needed a bit more security ☺️. Not sure what to do now, maybe I’ll try one again & see how I feel 😀 The jury is out on the wrist straps 🤔 Thanks Tony, hope you’re all doing well? Em 💜

@@vansforthememories I'm scared to say that I'm doing well because the last time I did that I got the bloody shingles. However, I'm feeling refreshed after 8 days on my own in our beach hut (aka a big shed) cladding the internal walls in temperatures hovering around 0°C. No female supervision and not falling over dogs has done me good.
