I think in pow you wouldn't really ride edges anyway. Either way your're riding it's like a log imo. I also think knowing your speed is very important, too fast you start skidding and having to speed check, too slow and you don't have the centrifugal force to initiate a really early heal/toeside turn for nice wide turns.

You got on the Colorado Superchair….I was hoping to maybe bump into you and say hello. Thanks for the vids…Dane

Awesome turns guys! How would you says those carves would turn out if you were to go ~10 mph faster? I'd be curious to see a video of Ryan going at higher speed!
@RyanKnapton2 жыл бұрын
There's kind of a sweet spot in terms of the speed to boards sidecut radius. Too fast with a high edge angle and the board starts fighting for a tighter turn shape and starts 'chopping'. I'll make a vid on this topic sometime.

What you said on down unweighted turns is kind of right... Easy to get them started on low angle slopes, and really start to feel the dynamics that are possible. But they are really the key to get really good carves on high angle icy slopes. Down unweighting lets you set the edge really precisely waaay before fallline... So with a precise push into your new edge with the front foot (anklesteering/ torsion) , before you actually turn, you can settle the edge way before centrifugal force sets in... You end up with a much tighter radius that you can actually hold on to on steep slopes. Rather than up unweighting, and getting slow enough before you fall into each new turn, to not overspeed while you follow through the wide natural arc of your board. Down unweighting + boardtorsion lets you kind of pick the turn radius of your board far beyond the sidecut and flex. I just got so creative and playful once I learned that, because you break free of that natural Board frequency
@justindoan67982 жыл бұрын
What board are you riding ? I may not be strong enough to use ankle torsion on the knapton twin. I can do it on the Saber and on alpine boards but I struggle to get torsional flex on the knapton

@@justindoan6798 an 2013 Ride DH2 161w and Ride Superpig 154... Carved both on the blank ice of Pitztaler glacier early this season... And the Dh2 as a bigair board has got wider radius in the tips than in the middle to delay turn initioation (for getting grip on landings with minimal turn)

What is the side cut, length, and flex of Jordens board ? How much does he weigh?
@strangefuture8082 жыл бұрын
Hey I'm riding the Aloha with stock flex 160cm 30.4waist with a 7/10VariableSidecutRadius. I weigh about 210lbs and I'm 6ft tall. I find this board just right as far as stiffness goes for all mountain riding including carving, glades, pow and some little ground tricks but if I was solely focused on carving at higher speeds or steeper pitches I would want it to be 10% stiffer. I do find it could be more supportive on high speed GS turns because I'm a bit heavier.

I turned my back foot forward for about 2 weeks last winter to really focus on the subtle ways my back knee placement improved my riding and tried to use muscle memory to keep doing that same placement after going back to duck.
