I bought one for this season. I really like the step in idea, specially if you ride 90% in the resort. The possibility to don’t strap your leg hundred times a day is crucial! The Clew does it well. They are strong build, easy to use and didn’t notice any differences in feeling the board (got it on Jones Stratos). The front strap is a bit tricky and it does move in contrary to what Kevin said. It’s very easy to change it’s position when trying to lock your foot. By this you need to bend and fix the strap as normal binding. If there would be option to fully lock it would be game changer. I had issues with freezing mechanism at -10/15 and lot of snowing. I struggled a bit to release few times, but more often to fully lock. It got lock always on the first hook, but I couldn’t lock on the second hook which was super annoying. The good point is you can still use it as standard binding and that solved the problem. Now I used WD40 to spray metal parts and plastic to make it more slippery. I noticed the parts got a bit dry/rough and think it might solve the problem to spray it with some oily product before use it. I’m 29, doing sports 4 times a week since 15 years old so let’s say I’m good condition, but at the end of the day I can feel a huge difference in my body tiredness without bending myself 90 times a day…! I use my gear pretty hard: high speeds, jumps, steeps, powder and it handles well. My opinion is based on 7 days snowboarding 8 hours a day in Alps from sunny 0’C to rainy, snowy, freezing -15’C. Also my mate bought Nidecker at the same time and didn’t have any issue, but they are more bulky and heavier, so it’s personal choice. Our two friends bought new UNION standard bindings for this season and after seeing us using step in they want to get it also for next year. Hope I helped a bit!

Thanks! You welcome! Also forgot to mention, but to fully lock I usually need to make a small jump on my heels to give some pressure. To lock it as on demo videos is possible of course, but on kind of flat part near chair. Usually I use me free leg to get as close I can to the steep part what makes a angle between the slope and heel side of the board and cause issue with locking on the second hook. It always lock on the first hook and than I make a jump to double sure that is locked. In my case is not a big problem. Also I noticed that as closer you get to 0' and POSI on you back foot that harder it gets to lock outside second hook on your back foot. Because of angle is hard to make proper pressure on outside of your heel to lock it. I had -3' and together with snowing day, cold it was causing more issues than -9'. I'm not sure but if someone goes always POSI - POSI it might cause frustration. Maybe the trick with oily spray will solve it because with cold everything gets so tide and rough, but didn't check it yet. Nidecker didn't have any issues like that during entire trip, but I like lightness of the board with CLEW when you use cabin lines and move around resort as it has half binding on the boots. Nidecker are also more tricky to use as standard binding because of bulky, 3-part strap system. As @SnowboardProCamp mentioned onces is nice extra feature having half binding on boot. The binding is so low that it does'nt get damage if there is no space between chair and ground when entering the lift and release is easier to reach :) @@kensou2828

Specifically, I'm riding with +21 on the front foot and a solid 0 on the back foot. Like you said, it gets kinda tricky stepping in with that 0 or positive-positive setup. But check it, yesterday I tried hitting it up with some WD40, and it was quite smooth.

My girlfriend owned a pair of these bindings, after using them for two months, the bindings came disengaged when she was carving down the mountain, which caused her to sprain her ankle. If anything, they should be paying for her medical bills.

How about under board feel? There is nothing but hard plastic between the top sheet and board. That's a recipe for dead spots and is typically on super cheap, low quality bindings. Until they fix that, I will stick with something with a more thought out design.

I used mine 24 days this season. Loved the idea and the convenience but my ankles were dead due to the lack of lateral flex. I take them off my board and there’s an outline of the bottom of the binding indented into my board. They felt responsive not very cushiony. The toe strap I couldn’t get adjusted perfectly and I did have some issues with the step in mechanism popping out to the first clip if I flexed my board enough. With that being said I went to the shop to get a trade in value and they offered me $50. Keep in mind they carry clews and I bought them from the shop. I know used equipment doesn’t go for much or hold its value but that’s bs. I sold them to a guy for $350 and am going to union bindings!! Good idea just needs to be around longer and or perfected because still has its flaws.

Cant speak for Clews, but the Nidecker step ins have been absolutely fantastic so far. Im a casual boarder, just cruising along the resort so nothing insane skill level wise, but man they were fantastic this week in france.

Had my Clews since its first release and been loving it since. Just watched the Angry Snowboarder's review and took with a grain of salt. His opinion, every rider is different. Good review of why he hates it, but I love mine and still ride it. In fact, I have these as well as the Burton Step Ons, K2's X Clickers, and GNU's Psychs and love all of them. I just love testing new products.

For anyone who wanted a true opinion, I got the clew 3 months ago and paid 600 without the 20 off. I used the clew on powder snow, ice, and park. The binding is really for the one who just wants a cruise day and doing a normal ride. Good for beginners easy to step in but will have a little struggle to step out. the spring bar at the back something stuck and sometimes only able to pull one side. The binding is very stiff and gave you all the feedback from the board. It is not friendly to setup, especially the front strap. Need a lot of the adjustments for the front. Comparing to Burton stepon, get the burton stepon if you have the money. For pro riders, i am not really advance, but hard to pop and do butter than the normal binding. carving is alright. In conclusion, if you want to do parks and carving get the normal binding. Clew still needs to improve, burton stepon is better than clew. I do not recommended. Only reason to get the clew is that you dont want to get a burton stepon boot but still want to try the lazy way to strap in strap out. It is like comparing $500 vs $700 stepon. Again, I don't recommend the clew.

I've been using Clew bindings since November 2nd, and yesterday marked my nineteenth day with them on the mountain. Despite being highlighted in their team rider in highlights , I want toclarify that I'm not a paid guy from clew. From the moment I first clicked the Clew bindings onto my boots, I was impressed. Initially introduced to them by Kevin, I found them to be quite responsive. I tested them rigorously for mid-range jumps, deep powder, and carving, and they held up well. Watching Kevin's update video, I found his insights to be honest and resonated with my own experiences. This year, with excellent powder conditions in Switzerland, I shifted my focus from carving/piste to freeride powder. While Clew's step-in feature is convenient on slopes, it doesn't work as seamlessly in powder. I usually manage the first click, but the second click is almost impossible. When only the first level clicks, I feel a loss of responsiveness. That’s why I use traditional straps in pow. Riding the Jones Stratos 23/24 board this year, which already has a lot of chattering on slopes, I noticed something disturbing me more than it needs to be. Yesterday, I brought my other set of bindings, Union Falcor, and tested Clew for half the day and Union for the rest. I felt a slightly difference in comfort - less vibration and a smoother ride with Union. Pondering this throughout the day, I came across a comment from @bunk88UNH about under-board feel, highlighting the lack of suspension pads between the top sheet and the board. He's spot on.. I believe that is a good point to improve by clew team. Despite this, I've decided to stick with my Clew bindings. Considering all the pros and cons, they suit my riding style with many benefits. I've met Clew's owner and the team, and I trust German engineering and product quality. I eagerly anticipate the new version of Clew. Full support, guys!

Went out for my first time yesterday. I am a big dude - 6'3 at 300 lbs. I didn't leave the bunny hill, but I did manage to finally do half of it without falling down. I will say though the worst and hardest part was just putting my bindings on and trying to get up. I am not the most fit person either and that was a workout. If I had something like these I could have saved myself a lot of time and hassle getting up and being able to just board more. I was trying to tell myself I wasn't going to buy a bunch of stuff until I got some of the basics down but sheesh it's hard to even get started if I am just on my butt unable to get up. (yeah I know I need to just work my own fitness too) but I have some skinny, very athletic and active friends and they have the same issues, due to back pain or other reasons. I am thinking about just going for it since I still wanna go again.

To be honest I only enjoyed them 35% of the time and the other 65% of the time not so much. My other bindings are the Rome Katanas and when I went back to those I realized how much I missed them. The Clews, I guess there was user error, but I had problems getting my back foot fully locked in. You have to angle it perfectly or else you only get one side of the binding in. I’ve tried to stomp on it to fully lock in but I usually end up having to pull the lever to start the whole thing over again, sometimes even taking longer than if I would’ve done the basic strapping in method. The clews is also not a very damp binding, for all the chop and chonder we get at Mount baker, I enjoy a damp binding with the aggressive terrain we have out here. And the insert screws are also terrible and cheaply made that I ended up using a back up set that I have. I’m also not a fan of the straps compared to my Katanas, cartels, or even bent metal bindings. Especially that toe strap. In order to lock in smoothly to the clew bindings, you have to have the toe strap a little looser than usual to get in there (which I don’t like, I like my straps pretty tight to my boot). I was also hoping to have lots of tool free adjustments with the $500 price tag. You need a Phillips screw driver to be able to adjust the straps and high back, which in my opinion, tool free should be standard in today’s bindings. Honestly the only thing I liked about the clew bindings is the obvious step in mechanism (once you learn the system and foot placement), the fact that you can use your own boots, and the lever pull-tab on the high back (easy to reach). Everything else? I didn’t find the $500 bucks worth it. Hopefully a couple more years down the line they’ll come out with a revamp model that includes better screws, straps, dampen foot pad, and tool free adjustments. *@clew if you take my input into consideration, I expect a free pair down the line! 🤣😆*

The pros listed in the video are fairly accurate. My husband and I got these bindings this season and it’s been a bit of a learning curve for both of us. We’ve both never used step ins before so this is just observations from using them for a couple of days of riding. Take these opinions on clew binding cons with a grain of salt. We both found that it can be a bit difficult to pull the handle while keeping enough weight on that foot so that it will release. When in comes to getting my feet into the bindings, if I’m not 100% lined up, I will smash the toe strap down and need to sit to adjust them. These issues are exacerbated especially if I’m not on flat ground when clicking in or out of the bindings. I have fallen or had to sit down a lot more than I’d like to 😭 If there’s snow packed where the connecting mechanism is, the bindings won’t click in unless I jump/stomp in them or remove the snow beforehand. They’re also pretty heavy compared to other step in options. They’re awkward to walk in if you leave the high back on, but I just remove them before walking far distances and problem solved. With that said, it still takes less time than a traditional binding to remove or put on and I think things will speed up the more we get used to them. I think if they were lighter and the high back part that’s attached to the binding was lower, it would help with getting in and out of the binding faster.

As I said under a different review video. I have them for a second season now. My biggest complain is getting my back foot out by pulling the red handle. 3 (maybe 4) out of 10 times I have had difficulties to pull out. I guess it's because pulling the handle does not evenly pull the hooks in and one or even both are blocking the release. It helps if I use both hands by grabbing left and right and pull that way, but even then sometimes it's just stuck. The reason to that could very well be the fact that sometimes one side passed two hooks and other side is only under one level, but that is impossible to visually check. You would need somebody else to do that check for you.

Ive used the Clews about 4 times now and all I can say is I love not having to unstrap and strap in every single frikin time. I did look at the Burton set up but I already have Burton boots and didnt want to buy another pair just to work with the Burton bindings. Yes Clews are pricey but Burtons are more expensive when all said and done. The Flows looked cool but seemed like they would come loose at some point but again all step ins are a risk of doing that I suppose. As for board feel, I guess I never really liked feeling the ground at all times so Im ok with have a muted experience. I mean Id like to try all the brands out there but I decided to buy the Clews first, so far so good.

@@TalonV9 Ive heard about at least one major drawback - the big strap stays with you for the whole day, while riding / skating / walking, so it may make your feet tired. You can loosen the strap occassionally but thats not ideal solution. So every type of bindings has its own pros and cons.

The weight and feel is like any other tradition strap binding. I’d say a 6 out of 10 on stiffness. Ride wise because you can use the straps like any other traditional binding you get that secure and responsive feeling.

Unless you've got mobility issues there's no real need for these (or other step in/on bindings). Is saving 10-15 seconds at the top of a lift that big of a deal, especially when you factor in the cost? There's usually some skating involved anyway, and it's very rare you'll come down a chairlift/button off ramp and get straight on your way. And then there's the whole stirrup look.

assuming 10-15 seconds is a good estimate (for beginners it's probably longer), you're saving that multiplied by the number of times you strap in over the lifetime of the binding. say you strap in/strap out 50 times over the course of a day. you're saving 15(seconds)*50(straps in/out)/60(seconds) = 12.5 minutes in one day. say you're on the mountain for 20 days a year. 20 (days) * 12.5 (minutes) = 4hrs 10min per season. That could increase a ton if you spend a lot more time on the mountain. It's definitely not a _need_, but for an extra $100 (nidecker supermatics are $429, good strap in bindings are ~$300-350) it makes sense why folks would prefer the convenience!

I don't have strpons but I can guarantee you it saves a lot more time than 15 secs if ur on lifts that are super populated on busy days. You forgetting the time you sent tryin to find a spot not occupied by someone sitting on the snow putting their binds on, or tryin to not get in the way of others coming down hill. More often than not, I lose a few secs waiting for someone to get outta my way after I strap up at my resort as it's 80% snowboarders in socal.

The bottom of the footbed has hollow areas creating a ridiculous dead spot. 5.
