Good thing about this is it can fit in the back of a minivan with the seats down... You don't even need a ramp to get it in there. Truly versatile. I live in Canada, and mobility on ice is a great constraint for our ice fishing.

Absolutely love these. Living in Mid Wales, UK we are occasionally snowed in. If used without the sled it’s a motorised pedestrian controlled vehicle. Could walk to the shops, load up and walk back until I was off road then hook up the sled to get back home. No road tax or insurance etc. Perfect. Would love the handles to be able to be offset so could walk to one side whilst towing the sled. UK law would class it as a vehicle if ridden in on the road and would therefore need registration and insurance.

How deep of snow can you drive through with these hauling a typical load of gear?
@snowdog4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Brux. It really depends on how compressed the snow is. Snowdog always tries to ride over snow, not through it, and you can ride over snow up to a couple feet deep usually. It might be necessary to get out of the sled at certain points. When the snow is compressed tightly the machine goes over bigger depth. Also there is a special accessory to enhance Snowdog deep snow performance - the slider suspension.

I like Peter Welch's idea of somehow putting a plow device on the front for snowplowing in the winter. I also think another use would be just for older or perhaps handicapped people to get around better in the winters. The standard scooter works great to tool around the neighborhood in the summer weather...not so much in the winter. I get that this is geared toward hunters/fishermen/hobby farms etc. but, it would work great for taking an elderly parent or grandparent on a gentle ride around the neighborhood or even on hiking/nature trails to get them out of the house for a bit. Being house bound has got to be one of the most frustrating/ loneliest times for our older folk. My parents are good now.....but, down the road I'm thinking this would be just the thing to take them out in nature to enjoy the birds/wildlife.

Hello, James. Snowdog has some important advantages i.e. : - it's agile, can be manipulated in tight areas, can go where snowmobile can't, like between some trees, under/over log - it's all-season, there are even wheeled semi-trailers built for Snowdog - it's small, can easily be transported in a truck or even in a SUV - while used snowmobiles tend to consume a lot of fuel, Snowdog is economical (5 l /100 km) - etc. Naturally, snowmobile has advantages of its own, it's all about individual needs and circumstances.

@@snowdog His point still stands. $2,800 for the SnowDog, vs $300 for a sled. $50-$100 for a blown sled and $300 for a brand new Briggs and Stratton engine. $400 in and I have a SnowDog minus the sled. It's a great product and all, but I couldn't see myself sinking almost three grand into something I could build for under $500. For those who don't have the time or don't want to put forth the effort, it may be worth it, but not to me.
@gordboyko7696 жыл бұрын
Burn Victim Yoda I see your point . But I really don’t think you can realistically make one for $500 ... and even if you could .. I doubt it would be as trouble free and reliable with all the bugs worked out as a brand new snow dog . The argument of a used snowmobile. Well for that kind of money in a snowmobile you will have yourself an older nearly worn out machine . I can see the market for snow dogs . Basic reliable transportation in remote back woods in the dead of winter . Exactly where I wouldn’t t want an old beater sled that may or may not get me home . Also .. have you ever got a snowmobile stuck badly In deep snow ? Not something you want to deal with alone . However, I can see a snow dog being pretty quick and easy to unstuck alone if need be .
@fornsphin6 жыл бұрын
@@gordboyko769 Last year I bought an 89 Yamaha Exciter for $300. It's a little older, but it's in great shape and the engine runs amazing. A sled is more of a toy, and a SnowDog is a utility vehicle. Obviously there are situations where a SnowDog would be better and some where a sled would be better. All you need to make a SnowDog is a track and skid from a sled, a running engine, and a means to drive the track with the engine. Obviously you need the proper tools (welder/grinder/etc.), but if you already have the tools, it's entirely possible to make a SnowDog of your own for under $500. As for the reliability, it's going to be as reliable as the work you put into it. There are a few videos here on KZbin of people making these things. REDNIC79 has a video and states that it took him about two weeks and it was a "really easy project". It may cost a little over $500 if you're purchasing steel and hardware to build a frame and such, but it's still far cheaper than $2,800.
@thatalaskaguy6 жыл бұрын
SnowDog, I could take my used, used $300 snowmachine anywhere the SnowDog could go at a much faster speed and with more comfort. I groom my own fat bike trails with that used snowmachine and it’ll go through far deeper snow than the SnowDog could ever hope to. Who cares with the SnowDog can go under slightly lower tree limbs or logs? Bike riders, skiers, walkers, snow shoers and the SnowDog operator are all higher above the ground than me, sitting on my sled while riding it. You are going to cut that stuff down and out of the way for any trail so it’s a moot point. Over a log, yeah, show me what log the SnowDog can go over that a regular snowmachine can’t. As far as width goes, and old cheap snowmachine can be as narrow as 28” with a 15” wide track. In deep snow the rut from a 15” wide track is too narrow for a Fatbike to comfortably pedal through as you hit the sides. The handlebars on anynbike are much wider that 15” and so is the normal torso with ski poles so the SnowDog has no advantage in this area either.

@@davidmonsigneur1198 Hello! Kudos to you for taking the time to explain your point of view. Don't forget, the variety of situations, where SnowDog may be used, is large. How do the cops feel about people riding these things around? Looks like a fun way for the kids to get to school. No more walking 5km in knee deep snow, up hill both ways...

Hello! Regulation vary from place to place, so we recommend checking with the local dealer.

So it takes two to load/unload but only one can use it?
@snowdog7 жыл бұрын
Stefan, it's simpler for two people to (un)load it, but you can do it by yourself as well, see the videotutorial please: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJe1enehet5jnsk Also, SnowDog can be used by 3 men of course, not just one!

At first I was not impressed at all actually I thought it was cheesy dumb but watching the whole video pretty impressed with it but for the price it’s well worth it I mean the cost to put the thing together and everything I understand that but for around three grand at least for me and we do have a lot of snow cold weather I could even upgrade my UTV with are used of course tracks or a older snowmobile they could do more than this is this thing had more horsepower it’s got a nice track with width an length and it is compact but I get it useful little bit of alterations for getting an elk out somewhere or a lot of firewood in a tight corner and haul it out But maybe you guys have configurations for that sell before making too many comments and judgments I think I’m gonna go on your guises website and do some more research

I considered a Snow Dog. But waiting on engine options now that Briggs and Stratten is in bankruptcy.

So, it's like a snowmobile, except worse in every possible way? $2-3k could get you a really nice snowmachine, or a decent one with a trailer, or 4-5 beaters.

Hello. The biggest advantages of Snowdog are - extremely low ground pressure which might be very important for ice-fishing - compactness, which allows to transport it in the car's trunk - ability to ride over grass, dirt etc. without any problems whatsoever as it's truly an all-season machine - low fuel consumption, low maintenance cost, no need to licence/register in many areas of the world

$4000,00. Are you serious? Its a $250 lawnmower engine with $800.00 snow tracks and some plastic to cover it. WAAY too Much!

Hello to you and thank you for the input! We choose the word "SnowDog" to emphasize the parallel with sled dogs.
