Bad Arena balancing in general, I played the game on Legend and Hell Team Battles really just get unfair at a certain point and force you into using gun damage to bypass enemy resistances 2. Lack of proper substories- What ones do exist are really high quality, like Kiryu vs ChatGPT or Kiryu meeting Hideo Kojima, but they clearly toned the quantity down a lot, though I kinda accept their replacement with the Akane microquests as a necessary compromise so the game and Infinite Wealth could both come out on time.

@thegrapethief5514Ай бұрын
Reuse of assets in the way that studios like RGG do it is actually really smart and should genuinely be embraced by more of the gaming industry. It saves time, it saves money, and a lot of the time it just doesn’t make sense to remake something for a new game instead of using what you’ve already got. Two great examples of how this works well: the Star Wars Jedi games and Hitman World of Assassination. Jedi Survivor has an ABSURD amount of content compared to its predecessor and improves upon literally everything from the previous game, and the game made smart reuse of assets (while polishing up certain ones that needed some work), AI, etc. to make that work, because why rebuild the stormtroopers from the ground up when they could just take the ones from the past game and improve them a bit? As for Hitman, as new games released in that trilogy, items, models, disguises, and animations were HEAVILY reused between them, and older maps were ported into the new games with next to no changes because generally, none were necessary. If it ain’t broke, don’t waste time or money getting another one. Scrutinizing game developers for doing this is stupid and it leads to worse products.

Shishido is also just a great antagonists, put him in any of the earlier games and he’s a protagonist. His motivation being to fight against a group of his trusted family who’re secretly conspiring to destroy his entire livelihood isn’t dissimilar to a lot of plots Kiryu himself has faced, and Shishido is pretty justified in his own betrayal, his life’s purpose being taken away, he’s going to be forced into a world where he has no preparation to survive in because his choice was to either survive as a Yakuza or die in the castle. And as we see from Ebina in 8, he wasn’t completely wrong for lashing out in anger and fear.

The real deal and great lore and lesson is that Like a Dragon Gaiden is that the story fitted well how Kiryu moved forward for his lifestyle of Yakuza with the less damage possible, but the last boss is the real opposite of his ideology and also ambitions, he was still stubborn to keep his circle jerk alive even if that splitted up for the sake of both clans who taked care about Kiryu.

I think Gaiden beyond being peak, shows that RGG when focused on the key elements of the series, can still go above and beyond no matter how long a game is. I think my only problem was, with how hard the ending hit, the ending of Infinite Wealth felt so lack luster. Especially as Kiryu’s last game (for real this time) I wanted him back in Okinawa at the very least. I totally get Gaiden was written after 8, but it might have almost benefited from being released afterwards. With only two months to go before 8 released, my expectations were so high for what the ending of Kiryu’s story would be I think I ultimately set myself up for disappointment.

Honestly, my biggest issues is that I honestly find Crane in Judgement more useful than Agent. The gadgets felt so clunky to use properly and more like it was tacked on to a combat style they were already working on. Also it felt like enemies would randomly break out of your combo to punish you way more often in this game, which is a tricky balancing act. Also the late game group battles against the Four Kings or whatever they're called were nigh impossible for me to win as with Kiryu. Thankfully machine gun cheese exists I guess. The storyline worked well enough, though I only really liked one of the antagonists. This also was when the Daidoji became this huge super secret organization which... didn't feel like it was ever meant to be the case when 6 happened but here we are. I think it was pretty damn good overall despite some shortcomings and the finale is the sloppiest makeout fanservice I've ever had given to me both physically via final boss and emotionally with the ending. That said the game doesn't let you play as Kiryu and absolutely body Ichiban as the final boss 0/10.

Combat was fun, gameplay improvements were fully on point, the story was trademark Yakuza bonkers, you're quite literally the 007 of Dojima, and the music....dayum, that music. And to top it all off - Kiryu didn't even need to star in it. That Joryu dude was pretty cool, hope we see him again. I had also thought the game would be extremely short thanks to the price tag and the advertising of it, but if you do all the content that's given to you, it's really not short at all. In fact it was nice having achievements that were achievable within a relatively sane amount of time. Really hoping Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will have a similar flow.

Platinum'd the game on PS5 a few months ago and replaying this on PC right now, looks amazing in 4k resolution with all the colors as you said, too bad there was no collector's edition for the Western release

Gaiden is without doubt my favourite game in the franchise, RGG making a "side game" being a masterpiece shouldn't be legal

Like a Dragon Gaiden is the only game that has ever made me cry. It is truly a masterpiece.

I love how SnowiestAngeman basically said the game is too good to the point people say it's bad.
