The number of people that fog their engines over the off-season always blows my mind. Thanks for setting the record straight.

Great video! especially the grease points. One thing I also do is Armor All. not just the seat but I spray a hot engine. it coats and shines at the same time. Especially the rubber parts. Try it, you don't even need to wipe after you spray the engine. it gleams.

Best thing I found to do is to start ur sled up and let it run for a little bit once a month . I been doing that for a very long time never had and issue with any of my sleds
@JESSEJAMES3222 жыл бұрын
i do that as well but the engineer did not mention that so i left it out!

Definitely agree that fogging is not necessary when stored properly. Have a ‘99 500 XC with 20,000 miles never been rebuilt or fogged once in its life.

Another great video. I also want to let you know to look at LPS #1 greaseless lubricant, way better than WD40, it’s a “water displacement” product that drys to a waxy film. I use it after every ride and it keeps corrosion off of the engine and pipes, and it’s safe to use on the wiring also. Looking forward to the build of that XCR!

All great points for summer storage. I've been using WD40 for over 30 years and it does work. I'm as picky as you with when it comes to a clean sled including engine bay.
@JESSEJAMES3222 жыл бұрын
it really does! its an old school option but it really works great!
@devooski47512 жыл бұрын
I would run it once or twice for about ten mins or 5 mins to keep the carbs from gumming up and keep the fuel lines fresh. In summer times and storage only.
@JESSEJAMES3222 жыл бұрын
correct. not as big of a deal with the fuel injected sleds that most now have but i agree its good to run them
@bowfin112 жыл бұрын
Great video. Do you clean your power valves. I cleaned mine on my 2022 XCR. I was surprised how gummed up they were with about 2,000 miles on the sled. Polaris claims you don’t have to, but I’m glad I checked.
@JESSEJAMES3222 жыл бұрын
ive talked to Bruce and he said very very rarely does the sled actually need them so i would say no. if they were gummed up to the point of not working properly it would throw a code. so if it did then yes absolutely!

Great video! I’m getting a 23 XCR and wonder if u have done any break in procedures on a new 850. There are so many options on this topic and wonder what was your preferred method. Heat cycles, take it easy or ride it hard etc.?
@JESSEJAMES3222 жыл бұрын
Congrats!! so i and many engine builders tell me to ride it hard. Dont be nice too it. Thats how ive done and ive never had an issue. This is my 4th one now and done the same each time!

I keep my sled inside in my shop. If I just pull the leads off the battery is that good enough or should I remove it and store in the house? Why keep it in a trickle charger? I store my JD lawn tractor indoors in the winter. Hook it up in the spring and away she goes. Let me know
@JESSEJAMES3222 жыл бұрын
not a trickle charger but a battery tender. These batteries are very finicky so i like to be more safe then sorry. Keeping them charged will only lengthen their life

Are you storing it with the gas tank full?
@JESSEJAMES3229 ай бұрын
yes
@larryfeldpausch93502 жыл бұрын
We add stabil in the gas and run it before we put ours away.. plus we start ours every 3 to 4 weeks and bring them up to temp...not sure if it's necessary but I'm paranoid

ive done that for years too. The engineer did not touch on that which is why i left it out!

Thanks Jesse. Maybe the chain case oil ??? I’m having my 2021 850 jackshaft bearing replaced with the 2022 bearing. I’ve heard the 2022 bearing has been updated??? Maybe Bruce would know??

jackshaft well touch in the jackshaft video and chaincase oil well touch in the off season maintenance video!!
@youareright54312 жыл бұрын
Hey Ed,all these bearings are the same on the drive side you pull out the seals and press in a little bearing grease every season and you'll have o problems 👍 , The grease deteriorates in these for some reason? But I'm up to around 4500 miles on my 2020 and they're still mint 👍 The chaincase side never go bad....
@edwright36712 жыл бұрын
@@youareright5431 thank you. I had some that is really knowledgeable on Polaris say the jackshaft bearing in the 2021 and the 2022 after different. I guess it’s a machined surface???? Part number 5144103.
@youareright54312 жыл бұрын
@@edwright3671 I'm not sure but what I did find is that the track drivers can be off by over 1/4 of an inch! Mine are less than an 1/8 inch off but if you're trying to align your track it's Alot! The only way to measure this is to assemble the drive shaft and measure the sprockets to each side of tunnel, there actually offset due to the chaincase protruding onto tunnel but mine needs to be off set even more! Frustrating for the price we pay for these things but good luck let us know How you make out👍👍

What is fogging? How about mothballs to repel rodents from chewing the wires? I also put duct tape over the bottom of the exhaust so rodents don’t make a nest in the can. I’ve heard of sleds going up in flames from that
@JESSEJAMES3222 жыл бұрын
That is all dependedent of where you keep them. this was just a general overview of mechanically what needs to get done. fogging is an oil that you pull the plugs out and spray in the cylinders. It coats everyything internally with excessive oil to keep anything from rusting
