About this scene, this actually happens a lot in my country (The Philippines and probably other countries). Let's just say people, especially the older ones, are quite conservative because of either cultural aspects or other reasons. So you will hear comments like: "You can't wear those type of clothes! You want to get pregnant?" or "Ladies/Men should act like this or that" or "You're a (chosen job) but you're a (any prejudice labels)?" I love this scene in a way. Sure it's played for laughs, but it also close on how others have struggled with those kinds of people like what happened to either Snorkmaiden and Snufkin. Times have change, yes, and I hope people who had the trait similar to Hemulen would at least be aware of that in the real world.

Interesting how she was more nicer in the japanese version. She only said about the anklet that it's only the type of accessory that adults use and she can use it as much as she wants when she grows up. As Snufkin came in and defended Snorkmaiden saying: "If it suits you, isn't it okay?", which Hemulen aunt said: "Snufkin, if you look so dirty, you won't be popular with the girls." Also she was called "Mrs. Godley/Goddori-fujin" in the japanese version.

I like how even though the Aunt was being critical the kids still respected her (in this scene anyways... I’m not sure how the rest of the episode goes lol) cuz even though she was being mean and a bit controlling, they accepted it and continued on and maintained respect for her. Of course if you’re being seriously hurt (mentally or physically or whatever) in situations like this it’s not okay to tolerate smth like that but I guess I had to appreciate the patience they all displayed with her; even Snufkin who left. He knew he wouldn’t be able to deal with her well so he decided it’d be better for both of them to not deal with her at all.

Nuuskamuikkunen directly translates to "snuff vendace" But the Muikku has "-nen" ending, turning it to common last name in Finland. Many last names in Finland have some "job" title in them. Little like in English "Smith" in Finnish there are also people with name "seppä" or Seppänen" (Smith) Snuffkin likes to fish, so thus name muikku The Snuff probably comes from the Moomin comics. Father of Snuffkin was a heavy smoker.
