EXCELENT VIDEO. Not only the right amount of information is provided to find an AC leak, but the way the video explains things is absolutely helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Unfortunately I just came back from taking my Tahoe to the shop to get the AC fixed for $480. I should have googled this video before taking the easy route, oh well, I'll do some more research next time. Thank you so much for the video, excellent job.

Found a similar leak on an 02 Xterra many years ago. Also used JB weld. Didn't wait for more than about four hours, but I did wrap the JB weld with a strip of old bicycle tubing and then placed a heavy duty pipe clamp over that. Blew icy cold for another 10 years. Now have mystery leak on the 08 Yukon. Will use the same method.

I put in refrigerant in my silverado and it got cold for three days and it stopped getting cold, it didn't blow that hard either but it was my cabin air filters that were dirty so I replaced them it blows hard now but no cold air. Could that mean sign of a leak? It got compresor done a few months ago.
@ScubaMoto
@ScubaMoto Жыл бұрын
Yes, it sounds like a leak. The method shown in the video will help you locate the leak. I'm surprised that whoever installed the new compressor didn't leak test the system after the install.

Wait if the AC button flashes due to not enough pressure/Refrigerant, how does a can work, without first pressurizing the system????
@ScubaMoto
@ScubaMoto 3 жыл бұрын
Bryan D: The can is what pressurizes the system. The AC button flashing usually means not enough pressure. As shown at the start of the video 0:26 , adding refrigerant will usually bring the pressure back up and reactivate the compressor clutch. If the system stays pressurized and continues to work long-term, then the leak is very slow and you may not need to take any other action. If you have to add refrigerant several times in a year to bring the pressure up, then you have a faster leak and you need to add refrigerant that contains the UV dye as shown in the video 1:28 . Then you run the system several miles and begin your search for the leak using the flashlight and the goggles to search for traces of the dye that reveal the leak. I hope that helps.

I have the exact same problem in 2010 Tahoe but I can’t figure out what size nut is on that clamp I spent 1.5 hours and couldn’t figure it out Can you tell me what size socket for the nut on the clamp…
@ScubaMoto
@ScubaMoto 2 ай бұрын
The nuts are 10mm. The threaded posts are too long to use a 1/4 drive socket and there's not enough headroom for a deep-well socket. I used a 3/8 drive socket so it could reach the nut beyond the post and it all barely fit in the tight space as shown in the video. I hope that helps.
