Underneath a heartbreaker beyond even Kurtley Beale proportions for Wales stood a new all-time classic of international rugby, as France dashed Welsh Grand Slam dreams in the final play. So how did Wales put together their sixty best minute sunder Pivac, how did France tear it up, and can I get through this video without having a breakdown?

@NormalSodaGuy I think you can blame Philippe Saint-André and Guy Novès for stifling the French brilliance for most of the 2010s, those were some dark years to go through as a French fan, especially that ass beating we received against the All Blacks at that RWC 2015 quarterfinal. The Brunel era was pretty bad as well. I'm just so happy we have Galthie now.
@Ranyanya
@Ranyanya 3 жыл бұрын
@NormalSodaGuy : problem was they didn't trust the players on the field. It was a rigid management and they had to follow the tactic or get out of the team. Galthié and Ibanèz give more freedom to the players. They left no choice to the French Federation, either they manage their way, either they don't work for the Federation. Laporte took a step back and let them try their way.

As much as I like Jalibert and the huge amount of talent and potential he has, I still prefer Ntamack to start at flyhalf. Ntamack seems to be more composed and level-headed during tight situations, and that's a huge trait that can pay off during tight test matches. I've noticed that Jalibert appears to get flustered quite easily when the pressure starts to increase. Overall, I think Ntamack did well to control the tempo and pace when he came on

It's not in my nature to feel sorry for Wales but they played brilliant incisive and spirited rugby that was a joy to watch. I've always admired their mental toughness over the years but this was rugby of an exceptional standard. It just confirmed that sport is cruel at times. This game also showed France returning to a genuine world-class standard after a decade of under-achievement. Can't wait for next year's 6 Nations! BTW - In the TV analysis Sam Warburton once again showed what a class guy he is and why he was made the Lions captain.

@Leo Cheenne [VI-LVI] I was trying to be considerate to Welsh fans, I think the referee made quite a lot of mistakes, but actually evened them out. There were so many "what if" in this game, that changing one tiny thing doesn't make any sense, because so many other things would have been changed in the process. What I can say is that they (welsh) played mighty well, and I think we should say so, and not put salt on the wound. As french supporters, we've been on the wrong end so many times, we know how it feels, and it's not something I'd wish to anyone (except the English, maybe).

Congrats France first and foremost on a great win! It was a spectacle of rugby to beat anything the Southern Hemisphere can bring in terms of tradition and passion. France have been the best team for me in this tournament, so it was good to see them finally win a big game when it matters. Having France back as a consistant and strong team will only help the other nations come World Cup time, they are the only team that can replicate the Nz and Aus way of playing heads up rugby. Saying that as a proud Welshman I am gutted! I jumped up at 79 mins with the turnover and screamed 'GrandSlam' haha how cruel this game is! I would have taken the run before the tournament and the performance in the final game. Its the best tournament in the world and im proud to be a rugby fan! I think your comments on Ntamack constantly altering the picture for Wales was spot on. This is why I believe he is the superior first five compared to Jalibert who doesn't lack razzle dazzle himself but tends to only exploit broken defences rather than creating mismatches and attacking opportunities. And my personal feeling is that Dupont played with way more confidence when Ntamack entered the turf. These two know each other so well and Dupont knows that he just needs to hear Ntamack's voice and chuck the ball in his direction to get the attack on the front foot. With Jalibert, France was attacking off 9 and Dupont felt the need to create opportunities himself, which stifled his impact as a halfback in other areas of the game.

One thing I think many people have missed it how good the French 13 Vincent is. He rly reminds me of Conrad smith. The player that doesn’t get the praise but just does everything with extremely well. I often feel 13 is the hardest position in rugby. Defensively it is extremely difficult and in attack a bad 13 often kills your chances of fully utilising your outside backs. I really think that TMO is right on this one - you can see 4 of the player's fingers except the pinky at the point it's supposed to have been grounded - when the no.6 repositions his hand the ball is picked up. And it goes back to the random nature of decisions - I personally thought Adams' try that was disallowed when there was no camera angle was more likely to be grounded. Because the officials were consistent though, I thought they were excellent. I don't think 100% of the calls were right, but Luke Pearce was the very model of composure and made sure it was a free flowing game.

@@arno222444 Because he focuses on what he knows, which is the game. The ref cannot play the game for you, talking in depth about an international referee performance requires experience in that domain and Squidge does not have that. Crying about a supposedly bias ref is for every drunk supporter looking at its screen, so you don't need him for that ;)

Excellent, got to cry myself to sleep for the second time in less than a week! Massive props for another great analysis video, so much detail about how both teams attacked trying to manipulate each other. What’s gutting about this is that it’s truly a game for the ages, meaning I’ll be reliving the anguish every replay and highlight for eternity!

As a Welsh fan, of course it's heartbreaking. To come so close. That second half i thought we just had it, i felt in the first twenty minutes of that half we were pulling ahead. It's sad, but you can't not feel some level of happiness for France. They absolutely played their socks off in that last 20 minutes, put Wales under more pressure than any other team in recent memory. Our discipline as a result went to pot, and as a result we let them back into the game barely a minute out. We need to improve our discipline, that penalty cost us the game and we could now be level with England on grand slam victories. It's heartbreaking, but this is rugby, it happens. We played, to my mind, the best rugby we have played under Pivac. We have a bright future ahead of us with this new attacking style. We have a great chance of still winning the six nations. Even if we come second, which lets be honest, if France beat Scotland by 20 points they definitely deserve the championship because Scotland are looking so much better this tournament. Even if we come second, i'd be happy with where we are at year on year. Lots of great players putting their hands up, and clearly Pivac is having a major influence. It would be great for France to have a championship win at this point, is had been so long since the last, would be fantastic for the young fans to experience. So here's to a great game on Saturday Can't wait for the lions tour, only time all of us home nations can truly get along.

Squidge, this is the first time I've watched this back since the game, and yes, I'm still traumatised. Great video squidge. I agree that France looked a bit more composed with Ntamack rather than Jalibert, and Serin feels like an excellent option to have on the bench, I could see him and Dupont acting like a bit of the inverse of the Aaron Smith- TJ Perenara partnership, with Serin coming on to bring some structure when the French are too tired to keep up with Duponts super high intensity tempo. Also please do take care of yourself, your fans will (hopefully, I can't speak for everyone) understand if you take a bit longer with the videos, I'd hate for you to burn out because of pressure from us.

Look all the chat about being ‘gutted,’ by my fellow Welshies is premature. Be gutted if France pummel the Scots. But as of right now, we have a Triple Crown, and we are still in it to win it. Six nations Grand Slams aren’t common place. If Wales win, then this tournament has been a milestone. Wayne Pivac’s influence is absolutely evident with 24 freaking tries over 2019’s Grand Slam with only 10 tries! Last year was a transition year after all...and what an amazing transition it’s been. Such class, such skill, such courage and such entertaining rugby. Best of luck to both France and Scotland. Give us another barnstormer and let the chips fall where they may. Wales forever 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

@NormalSodaGuy don’t be a disrespectful knob-end. We are a founding rugby nation, and one of the reasons rugby is a popular global sport. Most teams who ‘win,’ a six nations title do it with at least one loss. So this championship title will not be, ‘pyrrhic,’ it will be a win of great transformation, heart and soul. A win for our nation to celebrate. And just in case you are you are a Frenchman spreading dissidence or another rugby nation follower....England and Wales are still way ahead of any other nation for outright wins and grand slams...the rest aren’t even close. And the reason Wales’ achievements here are so notable - being so close on England’s heels - is we don’t have the same vast pool of players to draw from.
