So, I ended up buying every DLC for Stellaris. Here are my thoughts...

Unless creating an entirely new game helps performance making stellaris 2 is silly. I would rather pay for updated content rather than a new game and we all know based on other paradox games we would be buying this dlc again for it. Plus it's a simulation game I spend 99% zoomed out in the galaxy map so graphics and such is meh.

If u plan to play with friends for a very long time, u can buy all the dlcs for 1 account and play together (except Cosmic storm if u dont plan to go full tryhard)

That's what I do and we split the prices, be sure that the person who buys the dlc is the one that A. Likes the game the most and B. Can be available to play regularly In my friend group, that's me and now everytime a new dlc launches, we get together, my friends send me the money, I buy it and we all play a campaign and then the cycle continues

all i can say here is welcome to the "got all the dlc" club, i feel like there is somewhere where you can find literally all the additions listed somewhere but otherwise, i highly recommend you try out the Gigastructural engineering and/or Ancient Cache of Technologies mods when/if you have the time. also side note i completely agree with you on the "should've been an update" as i have felt the same for a while.

We woudn't get so much after launch support if they didnt release those dlcs. Luckily they always give us a free patch alongside a dlc release. These patches include new mechanics which get expanded on in the dlc. Thats why some don't feel worth it to you or like they should have been part of the game already. You will understand this better once you experienced a couple dlc releases yourself. I always buy the dlc at launch (full price) to support the game, I want the devs to continue their work on Stellaris for even more years. Because of the frequent sales, the free patches and the fact, that you can play with dlcs in multiplayer if your host is a dlc owner, Stellaris is a pretty consumer-friendly product (in my opinion). Regarding Cosmic Storms: If you actually engage with the mechanics and use the storms to empower your planets you can get some crazy effects. Kinda fun actually to play this way.

Yeah, I used to be one of those people who would drop a paycheck once a year to get everything Stellaris had put out. I'm definitely switching to the "pick up a month of subscription whenever the itch hits me real hard" mode.

Your comment regarding synthetic dawn and the machine age was pretty disingenuous. There’s a near 8 year gap between the two DLCs. While you were partially joking, you’ve made your views clear in the beginning that this is indeed how you felt. Is paradox (the publisher) greedy? Absolutely. Did the devs conspire with their publishing arm to concoct this? Lmao no. 8 year dlc gap. Systems that have never even thought of for 2017 stellaris exist now. Different game directors too I believe. Synthetic dawn was well received and is just a product of its time. Limited by the limited scope of 2017 stellaris

Perhaps you are right. While that part was more meant to be taken as a joke, I should have been more clear on that. I still believe though that many elements from various DLC's could have either functioned as updates to previous DLC's or the base game, and when noticing how many DLC's actually "synergize" with each other (with many DLC's adding content that in fact, requires other DLC's to function, take for example Nemesis with Federations) it does feel like that is a planned strategy from the development team. After all, by spending money on a DLC, you still don't get full access to that specific DLC's content unless you also own the DLC some of that content depends on in order to properly function.

As much as i found cosmic storms to annoy me it has engaged me more on how I do things. I was planning on going to war until a storm came through and made ship upkeep 200% increase. Was it annoying sure. But it kept me engaged because I had to plan around this issue. I find the new buildings kind of welcome. The origins seem lackluster. The price doesn't seem worth it mostly. I did buy it as part of the season pass.

Something stellaris would massively benefit from for playerbase is something like a DLC crunch. Either combine all of the earliest DLCs which I'd argue are NECESSARY for the game to function right by now, into one DLC at a modest price. Or, a bit more polite, make the DLC released over 2 years ago now free, and in return for those who purchased in the past, maybe work on a nice DLC containing a lot of things fans have been begging for a while now, and then discount it to those who have purchased the older packs as compensation. That way they can still make their money but also alleviating the uh, kinda appalling DLC pay-wall to multi-player these days. I have ALL of them except cosmic storms myself, but I intend to get it as I can turn it off for games I don't want it to be a part of, that and it's my least favorite dlc to date. Edit: the biggest wall I run into trying to get friends into the game is exactly just that, not the game itself, it's dope. It's that nobody wants to spend over $100 on dlc after buying the game, and thats understandable.

As someone who owns all the DLC's except for cosmic storms... Im gonna outright say Overlord & Leviathans should have been in the base game. They add alot of quality of life things to the game and new buildings that make the game less slow (in the case for overlord) and story & extra engagement ("bosses"/guardians) that make it feel more rewarding that isn't fighting the crisis. Utopia & Galactic paragons are two things that i see people say should've been base but i disagree with that statement. It's hard for me to explain why but they both feel like proper game DLC.

i haven't play Stellaris since Synthetic Dawn as i play other games first but i have all of the dlcs... with each dlc the game basically turn into a new game n it scare me, n in the end i dont know if i will touch it again...

Showing Steam reviews means nothing, because the majority of Paradox game DLCs have a ton of bad reviews simply due to people being angry about the prices and how many DLCs the games have...almost always has nothing to do with the quality of the DLC

well let start: UTOPIA: Utopia is not a dlc for stellaris, the stellaris itself is dlc for utopia NEMESIS: When come to Nemesis i would put it in chategory BUY ONLY AFTER NEEDED ONES, Nemesis to be fair dont do much, you gona see someone take role of custodian, just one hated empire often make big part of galaxsy neutral to eche other so strongest ai should get that role almost evry game if player will not... but they for 90% do nothing... be crisis is one time deal, i think if you play like 10 + times per year you probady gona be crirs one time evry year becuse it just boring if done to much, some super agresive empires often make themself mid game crisis by picking that perk but it just ok, i even have one that happend in evry of my games as lag cleaner and take often half of 1000 stars galaxsy, and you cant kill it, just stop it by stealing his core world and prevent from growth, until awakened empire or true crisis clear it. But still Nemesis have 2 thins that could be worth if buying, so for that price neh. MACHINE AGE: 5:04 just no ? that game change gameplay by 90 degrees every year, like rare resorces on they own get like 5 reworks, 3 minors and 2 big, i remeber when they where on planet buffs and than in space and work as edict but they alywas where ON, and you almost never have more then one of eche and 50% of them are still not back to game, you could sell your research for stuff like one side science pact but you get credits... there was a lot of stuff. If they use Down as template and have AGE as idea back them, game would not be able work around machine age as we see and even if change for old version it woudl be cut on half at best, , stellaris is kinda like many games in series than one game, version we have today that is 3.xxx could be called stelalris 3 or even 4 at this point, and how much stellaris do sometimes have problems with honesty and reasonable prices, there is no chance that Machine Age would have been lying on the shelf for so many years, just for money. PARAGONS: when yes paragons price is to big... game do get free uptade, again, like for rare resorces leaders get few reworks in past, the one you see on clear game are not the same as we have beofr that dlc.and even clear game leaders are right now much more importants than old ones. OVERLORD: i would ignroe it like some other but i just must say a thing... that dlc do break vassal system... they make it better whne you are or have ones... but ai are break, they gona cry to they allys and becoem vassals becuse they lose a fleet they could rebuild in a year, and becuse you cant becoem vassal by peac in any war, they never have reason to become one, and if you almost kill your nemesis but they have few systems left... well now they have so random overlord probady one of your allys, and you f...ed... and you dont need own dlc to play on broken version of game... I HATE THAT CHANGE, i dotn play on 50-80 empires to have one big overlord for eche sector of galaxsy and play as vs 3-4 very big empires. 11:45 not not rly, you should play around few years on not uptaded version of game to get evrything, and if feel like you want play stellaris after that 6m you shoud start buying dlc if you not place like 2 games per year, prices even on steam if you just pick must need and secund must need are fine... not that great but is fine, even after paradox make all prcies biger... like not that long ago all dpc cost around 10-30% less and sales where alywas 66% for evry dlc except last 2, last dlc was on no sale and previus one alywas get 33% and base game 75% and outside of steam you could get to some funny numbers... rigth now it similar but sales almost never go more than 50% and thet 10-30% cost, but half of dlc are just ok, when coem to all dlc UTOPiA - FEDERATION - MACHINE AGE (3 DLC IN ONE LITERALY )- LEVIATAN - DISTANCE STARS - ANCIENT RELIC that is must have, meyby except relic, the last 3 are alive galaxsy dlc, and first 3 are more abaut mechanics, leviatan probady give most of all dlc life to galaxsy than distance stars, thne utopia and machine age, then federation and last one is relic. and there is a things you may try becuse i see many things you see may be weird for older players becuse we see how game change... try play older versions, is pretty easy, in stema it should be easy to go beta and pick any older version and if you have just few than there is some old code that unlokc all of them or you need link paradox and steam account ? i dotn remeber but is pretty fun play around 1.2 1.4 1.6 1.8 1.9 2.2 2.5 2.7 2.9 or something like that, what i trying to do is pick most uptade version that have not a lot of change, so i have less bugs, but last time whne i do all of that was like 2 years ago so i dont remember all versions i jump on... and if you feel like you dont have time.. game to version 1.9.1 if i good remeber, have total difrend pop and resroces system, game have few % of clacluations it have today and game just GOO, my laptop i have 9 years when 1.9 come out and it was able pretty easy to play entire 1k stars galaxsy having no lags... my game in end game work back than better that today in start on 600 stars on new laptop XD. and yes you matter how much you learn abaut stelalris.. after 4-8 month half of your knowalnge gona go to a trash... that game is shapeshifter and it is very good on that thing alos as fun fact there is a team that for free uptade older dlcs ( they use it as why they change prices but it was cheep lie ) like plantoids pers dose not exsist it was just ships and look like humanoids ect, first dlc giving for us something was lithoids and than nekroids... also nekroids should in 2025 get some uptade and megacorp if i good remeber.
